As far as the east is from
the west, so far has he
removed our
transgressions
from us. As a
father has
compassion on
his children, so
the Lord has
compassion on
those who
fear him."

- Psalm 103:12-13

February is National Pet Dental Health Month

"All Smiles!"

“HISS! HISS! HISS! Noah, why in the catnip is our human trying to put a stick looking brush thingy in your mouth?”

“Garble, mumble, mumble, mumble, garble…. Well… garble… he is trying to clean my teeth from tartar, plaque, and other gunk in my mouth. He tries to keep my mouth clean by using a toothbrush, not a stick thingy brush but a real tooth brush made for dogs! They make them for cats too.”

“Oh, uh, meows, maybe it’s time for me to go hide again! I don’t want one of those things in my mouth! HISS! Meow...”

“Well, it’s not as bad as it looks to you. Barkingly, quite tasty! Paws, it beats the alternative by a long shot! WOOF! WOOF! I’d rather endure the annoyance of a human brushing your teeth than to have to go through what our humans first cat did!”

“Uh-oh! HISS! HISS! What’s that all about? Meows, purr…”

“As Dad told me, they adopted a pawsomely grand older Maine Coon cat who needed to be rescued. Prior to our humans adopting him, he hadn’t been fed the right foods nor was he taken to the Veterinarian regularly to have his exams and his teeth checked, he developed some purrty serious teeth problems.

WOOF! As I understand, barks, the cat developed serious teeth problems and a bad attitude. He became grumpy and had some of those cat hissy fits! He went from a sweet loving cat to one you really didn’t want to have around. Unfortunately, the humans didn’t know what was causing it until the Veterinarian mentioned the really bad and infected teeth. Paws, our humans decided to have the teeth removed as the Veterinarian highly recommended. Barks, within a short period of time, they noticed the cat was returning to his old self! Paws, I would rather have the humans take care of my teeth than to start feeling really bad or get really sick , or worse, from infections. Barkingly, it’s really like the same with humans. Bad teeth, you don’t feel good.”

“Meow. I love my beautiful smile with my most handsome cat-face. Maybe I will cooperate with our humans!”

“Barks, a great idea! Sit back, relax, and let the humans do their job! WOOF! Humans should NOT use human toothbrushes or toothpastes. A pet store has a good variety of dog/cat toothbrushes and toothpastes. Humans should use their fingers to gently touch the teeth and gum lines. After introducing the toothbrush to your pet, giving them a treat for good behavior, place some toothpaste on it and begin brushing. Be very gentle, not aggressive. Pay attention to your dog’s behavior taking cues and acting upon them. I do not like my teeth brushed by my human so he uses treats, dry dog food, and toys which are designed to keep my teeth cleaner. Barks, if you see anything concerning in your pets mouth, be pawsitive to bring it to the Veterinarians attention.

WOOF! Always chat with your Veterinarian before starting a new routine like teeth brushing. Barks!

February is dental month! Check with your Veterinarian for pawssible discounts in dental services this month! WOOF!”

A Valentine's Day Story

(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!
(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!

OH MY BARKS! She’s a barkingly pawsomely woofster of a hot, beautiful Rotty! The Rottweiler I love, Kady. And, it’s Valentine’s Day. I’ve got to get my nerve up to ask her for a date. Thing is, I need to borrow a car to take her somewhere so I gotta chat with my human to see if he will let me drive his Subaru Forester!  After all, barks, he says he bought it for me so maybe he’ll let me borrow it- my dog license was renewed last month so I should be good. Barkingly, I am always seeing dogs driving Subaru’s on TV!! WOOF!! My humans don’t always celebrate holidays on the day so gotta figure out when they are out so I can have access to their car!

I need to determine where I can take her.  If it were Spring, we’d go to a park, one where we can enjoy the quiet of nature and not be distracted with wanting to chase pesky squirrels or other varmints! WOOFs! Though that could be a fun date - barks! - I would take a picnic basket full of food and treats and all the good stuff she likes!  WOOF! Barkingly, with the cold weather I am thinking a good restaurant where our humans aren’t so we can have a romantic evening.

I’ve asked Kady, she said “yes,” My puppy heart is fluttering up a storm! Mom said I could use the Subaru Forester! I got Kady a dozen roses at the local florist!

My humans usually go to a seafood restaurant for Valentine’s Days so I will avoid that and should be good.  Anyway, we like beef and steak much better.  WOOF!!  That decided, I am all set!  WOOOF!!

The humans have left, Kady and I are going to a steakhouse for our Valentine’s celebration!  Happy Valentine’s Day!

WOOF! MEOWS! Bark! Happy Valentine's Day our favoritest humans, dog friends, and cat friends! We hope you have a blessed day with those you love!

We love you, our dear readers! Happy Valentines Day!

MEOWS! Happy Friday, my friends! Paws, to my friend "Miss Sherry" at the Humane Society of Northern Virginia for sharing with us a friend, Dorothy, who needs a "Forever Home!" It was so pawsome to hear from her! Dorothy is looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too!

Dorothy was doing her pawsome best surviving in a trainer park. She was only a 6-pound kitten who was pregnant but it was unknown until she was spayed. She had a rough time with the surgery but came out of it to nurse another kitten that came into the foster's care.

Purringly, she isn't the most outgoing cat in the rescue. She is very sweet and enjoys being pet!

Dorothy enjoys her little hideaways but she will be happiest when she finds her own home and a cat tree in a sunny window. She is looking forward to enjoying a happy, comfortable life.

Sweet Dorothy, purrs, is ready to go home with a human who understands some pets may take a wee bit longer to open up to their humans. Paws, she is so sweet that anyone will see that if they give her a chance.

To learn about adopting a cat, meet Dorothy, or apply to adopt her, pawlease visit Humane Society of Northern Virginia - Adoption.

Purrings, do you pawsitively love cats but are unable to adopt? Paws, how about supporting Dorothy financially? Donations will assist with her care. Any extra funds will be used to assist other dogs at the Humane Society of Northern Virginia. Interested, pawlease donate HERE! Donations are tax-deductible as permitted by the IRS.

Creative: from The Dog's Paw!

Meows! Happy Friday! My friends at The Humane Society of Loudoun County decided to make my day by bringing by two of the mostest gorgeous cats I've seen in a while! They are bonded-buddies and need to be adopted together. Meet Gracie and Sootie!

Gracie was expecting littles ones when she was rescued! She was provided a room to nest, pawlenty of food and water to help her little family. Meows, the kittens found their own "Forever Home!" but it seemed Gracie was always missing them. Soon, her foster family brought in a new kindle of little kitties. It didn't take Gracie long to find the one who needed her love and care!

Sootie came into her life, she is a mini-Gracie with the beautiful long gray coat! They bonded almost immediately! Gracie cares for Sootie like she is one of her own.

Sootie is around 5-months old. She recently learned a new trick - FETCH! Meows.

Gracie is barely over a year old but has been through quite a bit. She may always be a bit reserved but enjoys attention! A quiet home without small mini-humans or dogs would be best for her.

Purringly, Gracie and Sootie are happiest when the have each other!

To learn about adopting, or to meet Gracie and Sootie, and other adoption information, pawlease visit The Humane Society of Loudoun County.

Meows, do you pawsitively love cats but are unable to adopt? Purrs, how about supporting  Gracie and Sootie financially? Donations will assist with their care. Woofs! My friends from the Humane Society of Loudoun County brought by a handsome fella for you to meet this week and pawssibly adopt! Meet Nash, he looking for his "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too! Woofs!

Nash is a super cuddly goofball who always wants to be with his humans!

He is well-behaved, lovable and faithful guy with lots of energy to run around. His "Forever Humans!" could take him running or hiking. He enjoys visits with the horses. Barkingly, he is happy to cuddle with his humans and watch a movie too!

Paws, Nash does have some anxiety around very small mini-humans. Barks, he is not recommended for a home with toddlers or mini-humans under age 10 who haven't been taught how to interact with a large dogs.

Barks, no cats in Nash's new "Forever Home!" as he seems to want to chase small things with unexpected movements. WOOFS!

He will need to get to know his humans before giving them his full affection. Barks, if he is excited and held against his will, he will give a warning nip. Nash is a big fella who knows how to use his size to get what he wants.

Barkingly grand, Nash recently graduated from his training program and his doing well minding his manner. Paws, his trainer offers some follow-up training for whomever adopts hum along with complimentary group classes (more details available to applicants).

Wooflys, in 2017, Nash had a doggy DNA test done, it came back as 50% Staffordshire Terrier, 25% Great Pyrenees, and 25% “mixed” breeds.

Woofs! Happy Friday, my friends! Are you looking to find the bestest friend you could ever find? Barks? My friends at Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) brought by a fella named Marschall who is looking for his "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too! Barks!

(C) 2023, from the Dog's Paw!

Are you looking for your one-and-only, dog that is? Looking for a cuddle buy who pawsitively loves zoomies and going for hikes? BARKS! How about going to the winery or brewery or the local dog-friendly restuarant, Marschall would be up for that! That all would be fun with this fella.

Barkingly, he is house- and crate-trained, non reactive, a pawlite houseguest. He walks pawsome on a leash with a head harness.

Barking, due to poor pawlay skills, Marschall should be your one-and-only-dog-that-is! He is not agressive toward other dogs but prefers the calmer/well balanced dogs. Paws, he does well on pack walks with reactive dogs.

Marschall has brought so much joy to his foster family and those who have met him.

If you have questions about Marschall, pawlease contact Eric F.

WOOFS! WOOFS! Barks! Happy Friday! for some reason, it seems like its been a pawfully busy week. Every day, Dad had an appointment or had to be somewhere or the other but he loved coming home to cuddle with his dog or go for a walk or whatever! He says a dog in his life makes it so much better! Do you have a dog to share your life with?

Barks, my friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue brought by a pawsome Black Labrador Retriever named Sonny for you to meet and consider adopting. WOOF! He is looking for a "Forever Home!" in a single-family home or townhome (with pawlenty of exercise) with a physical fence! WOOF! He pawsitively wants to be your one-and-only-dog-this-is! He will have a training addendum attached to his adoption!

Barkingly, Sonny has great house manners. He pawsitively loves being with his humans. He loves being a kissy snuggly-bug  and is looking for humans to love who will love him too! Wolfly, his foster family has left him home alone without using the crate and he was well-behaved during their absence.

Woofings, he loves playing fetch with his humans. Each morning, he loves having a game of fetch then it's time to settle in for the day. In the evening, he has a burst of energy with his toys and  will do best with another game of fetch or a walk in the neighborhood. He does better with an Easy-Walk harness. Paws, he loves going for walks.

He enjoys car rides but may need some help getting into the vehicle. Once in, he tends to enjoy the adventure. Woofs, Sonny likes swimming and running. He loves being outside, watching the world go by.

Barkinglys, Sonny has learned to "sit and wait" while his dinner is being made. He is learning "place" and is good at "sit," "wait," "down, (usually)" and "no." Pawings, the new lick pad his foster family got him really stimulates his mind.

Barking, Sonny has created several videos to help with his adoption:

and

Woofings, though Sonny is a champion destroyer of toys, he tends to not touch anything else that is not in her toy bin, barks, including shoes at the front door.

Sonny is food-motivated with pawnderful table manners. He doesn't counter surf nor does he put his nose on the table or near human's plates. He likes to sit nearby hoping something scrumptious will fall.

Barking, which isn't something that Sonny does much, he tends to be a quiet fella even around vocal dogs he meets on walks.
(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!

Sonny has the pawfect energy, not low energy but definitely knows when it's time to chill out.He will need a family who will give him long walks or pawlay sessions.

Barkings, Sonny is approved for mini-humans ages 10 and older since he has no history. No cats. He will have a Training Addendum attached to his adoption.

To learn about adopting a Labrador Retriever from Lab Rescue, pawlease visit their Adoption Guide.

If you would like to meet Sonny, or pawssibly adopt him, pawlease complete the Lab Rescue Dog Adoption Application
