WOOF! Barks! Meet my new young friend Desna from Operation Paws for Homes. She is around 6-years-old and a beautiful, sill and quirky, Black Labrador Retriever mix!

Desna loves anything with peanut butter in it! Dip anything in it and she's a fan! She loves wet grass too! If you go for a walk and the grass is wet, she will want to roll around in it!

Desna loves going for walks, leisurely strolls, exploring, and gets super-excited-happy when her foster mom pulls out the leash!

Desna recently had an FHO surgery because of a problem with her back leg. Since she was so uncomfortable she found that she likes a quiet and mostly mini-human-free house. She likes older mini-humans but smaller one scare her!

She finds the Veterinarian scary too even though she knows they are trying to help! Paws, she would love to check out one of those "fear-free" Veterinarians.  WOOF! She's heard those guys are pawsome!

Desna is house- and crate-trained! She has good house manners!

WOOF! BARKS! Meet my new friend The Great Pretender from Operation Paws for Homes! Paws, or Bentley as his foster mom calls him! He is guessed to be a Spaniel mix and estimated to be around 6-months-old. His foster mom thinks he has Flat-Coated Retriever too)!

The Great Pretender, aka Bentley, has a sweet disposition and is ALL puppy! WOOF! He loves running and hopping around the yard going from toy to toy and playing with other dogs.

He is learning some rules and discipline especially not to jump up to get a human's attention! He is making great progress! He is crate- and house-trained having had no accidents in his foster home! His foster mom uses the crate when she cannot keep an eye on him.

The Great Pretender loves meeting humans and mini-humans too! He is great with other dogs but does best with other dogs who like to run and play.

He is learning new commands like "sit," "come" and "down!" He is learning to take walks without pulling on his leash!

The Great Pretender is a pawsome fella and probably will not be waiting long! WOOF!

WOOF! Happy Friday! My dahling friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue who always has something up her sleeve, yes - besides her arm that is, brought by the mostest cutest young pups who reminds me of my adorable self in my younger years! Hey! I'm still adorable- what am I saying!? Woof! Meet my new friend Brownie! He is around 9-months-old and a Chocolate Labrador Retriever!

Brownie is looking for a "Forever Home" in a single-family house with a physical fence located in a rural or suburban setting! Paws, his young age will require a Training Addendum with his adoption! He must go home with another dog!

Brownie pawsitively loves playing with other dogs and running around the yard. He is looking for a playful companion. He loves tossing his toys in the air and making stuffed toys squeak! He had a playdate and loved every minute of chasing the other dog. Barkingly, he settles down when its time to do so!

Brownie is completely house-trained and stays in a gated area. He doesn't get into anything while home alone either! He hasn't been crated and doesn't seem to need it.

Brownie will need a family with patience and love to help him overcome his lack of socialization in the first few months of life. He's making improvements every day but it won't happen overnight!

Brownie is working on the "sit" command and wants to lean others!

Brownie is good with other dogs and mini-humans ages 10 and older! He used to chase cats on the farm so NO cats.

Meow! My Human's Travels .....

Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, PA
"Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, PA"
(C) Allen Pearson Photography

PPFFFFFFFTTTT!!! HISS! HISS! They did it to me again! Totally wrong! Inappropriate! So rude. I cannot believe my humans! They are getting on my lastest nerve! They took off again to go who knows where doing who knows what and left me here! BY MYSELF!!! HISS! HISS! Now, I have NO servants to wait on my every wish and whim! What's a cat to do when you think you got the humans all trained and they take off again and get out of control?!

First, it was a trip halfway across the country to a Railroad Photographers conference, I heard Dad say it's called "Conversations 2019" with the Center for Railroad Photography and Art. He's been wanting to go for a few years so they took off and went! And LEFT ME ALONE! HISS! HISS! He was hoping to learn about creating better railroad photography and maybe find a place to share his railroad photography art. Dad said he learned a few things while there but told me "I missed you, Samson!" I did my best to ignore him but I ended up giving him a headbutt just to make him feel loved- you know how it is!

Center for Railroad Photography & Art
(C) Center for Railroad Photography and Art

I get settled in with having them around the house again. I ignore them and go about my impawtant task of perching on Dad's studio table and watching the backyard for any wildlife or bird intruders! It is up to me to keep the home safe though Noah likes to think he has it all under control.

HISS! HISS! Then, they are off again! I cannot believe these humans and yes, they leave me behind... again. I even stood at the door to the garage door staring off into space to convince them to take me with them. Dad did say that I would not enjoy this trip. They are going railfanning to watch trains in various locations throughout Pennsylvania with a full day at Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark in Altoona! It would be noisy and even more noisy and lots of noise. Trains are noisy! So they left me again.

Paws, but don't tell them I said this. My human friend "Miss Glenda" stops by and makes sure that I have pawlenty of water, food, and a spot of milk every day while my humans are gone. Little do they know but we have a grand time. We get some catnip, some special treats, some milk, and water and sit in front of the TV for hours watching the bestest movies! Just wait until the humans get their cable bill.. hee hee! And, we get into Dad's music, his stereo and crank up the volume to the greatest and loudest music, nope- none of that long-hair classical stuff.... the greats like Journey, Foreigner, and Newsboys! So don't tell them... "Miss Glenda" and I have way too much fun for me to really miss them.

When they get home, I meow and purr and pretend to have missed them beyond belief.... pawlease keep our secret... actually I did kind of miss Mom! Meows.

My cat friends, who takes care of you while your humans are away? Do you have fun too? Pawlease tell me about it in the comments- Meows!

Columbus Day
(C) Storyblocks, Used by Permission

WOOF! MEOW! Today is Columbus Day which pawsomely means that many of our friends who work for the federal government and a few other offices in the areas including banks and post offices have a day off!

The holiday commemorates the landing of Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492. The day has been celebrated since the 18th century in a number of cities and states. Some locations throughout the country celebrate Italian-American heritage with parades, street fairs featuring colorful costumes, music, and Italian food.

WOOF! Some places throughout the country use today to honor indigenous peoples with activities including pow-wows, traditional dance events, and educational events about Native American culture.

WOOF! MEOW! However you celebrate the day, make it a great day by remembering the contributions of many people of different races from various countries throughout the world who have made America great!

MEOW! MEOW! So very pawsome to catch up with my dear friend "Cat Lady!" from PetConnect Rescue! She and Noah and Dad have friends for a long time now I get to be her friend and share about the cats she and her team of pawsome volunteers rescue and help to find homes!

This week, "Cat Lady" brought by Bodie, a fella looking for humans to love and a "Forever Home!"

Meow, Bodie is a playful and talkative fella who loves being with his humans! Paws, he loves humans so much, he allows his foster Dad hold him like a baby!

Cat AdoptionPurrs, Bodie likes other cats too. He lives with his foster brother Harley and gets along with him quite well!

Meowingly, Bodie has hyperthyroidism, paws, a condition in which his thyroid gland produces too much hormone. Happily, this condition is easily treated with an inexpensive medication that he gobbles down in a Pill Pocket twice a day. He'll need to be on the medication for the rest of his life and will need semiannual bloodwork to monitor his thyroid levels. Meows, paws, he has a wonderful quality of life, needs no other special care, and is expected to live a normal lifespan.

Paws, cats adopted through PetConnect Rescue must be indoor only, and may not be declawed (unless already declawed at the time of rescue).

Interested in learning more about cat adoption with PetConnect Rescue? Pawlease visit their Adoption Guide!
