Friday's Friend, Dog Adoption, Cat Adoption
WOOF! Barks, Meows and Purrs! What a pawsomely busy week we've had. Samson and I had a visitor in our home. His name is Luke, a 1-year-old Labrador Retriever. My humans are learning about him and participating in a foster to adopt with him- Dad is looking for a dog to take the through the Service Dog training to help him while I retire and kick-back! We'll see how it goes.
Barks and meows, Samson and I will be barkingly, and meowingly for that matter, writing about our friends from local rescues needing "Forever Homes" on August 2! WOOF!!

Keep Your Cat from Becoming Lost!
(C) Petfinder, Used by Permission |
'MEOW! With all the pawsome warm weather this season, it's time for humans to celebrate and have outdoor grill-out pawties! MEOWS!
Many cats go missing this time of year because of humans going in and out the doors and not paying enough attention to the cat making sure he doesn't get out! Hiss! Be sure to ask your guests to be alert for the cat.
Make sure you have pawlenty of recent photos, with camera phones that's not too hard to do, handy so if you need to identify your cat at the shelter, you'll be prepared! My human keeps an updated gallery on his phone and desktop computer of me and Noah so he can always identify us.
Paws, make sure your cat has a collar with an ID on it. We like to include my name, address, and phone number so it's handy should another human need it. Keep it and the microchip updated.
Meows, place your cat's food, water dish, toys and litterbox in a closed room. Maybe play some of that long-haired music my human loves, you know- Beethoven, Bach, or Mozart? That'll really help keep the cat from accidentally escaping!
HISS! Should your cat become missing, pawlease contact your local shelter immediately! Paws, contact your neighbors to let them know and post flyers throughout the community. Some communities, like ours, have Facebook and Nextdoor pages dedicated to helping unite missing pets and their humans! Become familiar with those now before you need it.
Purrs! Enjoy your pawties this season- be sure to take precautions for your cats.

WOOF! BARKS! I love catching up with "Lab Lady!" from Lab Rescue! This week, she brought by a dog for you to meet who is almost, note I pawed 'almost,' as unique as she is. Er, uh, barks, that's a good thing! A barking good thing. Meet Jaxson!
Photo: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc. Creative: Allen Pearson |
Jaxson is looking for his "Forever Home" in a rural or suburban single-family house or townhouse (woof! provided he can get enough exercise!). He is approved for townhouse living as long as it is not in a loud/noisy area. He has a fenced yard requirement or leash walks with harsh or collar. Barks! no e-fences! WOOF! No super high traffic/noisy areas for leash walking.
Jaxon is around 2-years-old and a beautiful Yellow Labrador Retriever! He has unique spots on his ears and back making his extra special! woof! With his young age, he will have a training addendum.
WOOF! Paws, Jaxson is food motivated so training may be easier. He does have to be corrected when he tries to hone in on everyone else's snacks!
Jaxon, barkingly, gets along with other dogs. He likes playing with them. Barks, or he'll do his zoomies all by himself. Bark.
Jaxson pawsitively loves butt scratches, ear rubs and all the pawsome attention he can get. He is learning to cuddle with humans!
WOOF! Barks, Jaxson is learning his leash skills but will need a harness and collar (double-leashed) as you never know when a loud noise will scare him!
Photo: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc. Creative: Allen Pearson |
WOOF! An electric fence is not permitted for Jaxson since he is easily scared by loud noises. It's pawssible he will get going with the zoomies and make a run through it to escape it!
Jaxson is approved for mini-humans ages 10 and older. He is good with other dogs but has no history with cats.
WOOF! Barkly, if you would like to learn more about dog adoption, pawlease visit Lab Rescue's Dog Adoption Guide!
Interested in meeting or applying to adopt this pawsome fella? Pawlease complete the Lab Rescue Dog Adoption Application!
Unable to adopt? Love Labrador Retrievers? Pawlease consider supporting Jaxson financially. Donations will assist with his care. Any extra funds will be used to assist other Labrador Retrievers at Lab Rescue. Interested? Pawlease donate HERE!

Gwen Stefani is learning how to take treats gently from a human's hand.
She is a young puppy and still has lots of young-puppy-dog energy! She likes to play with toys, go for walks, hikes, runs, and any other activity you enjoy! She enjoys going to doggie daycare and playing in the yard.
Barkingly, she's liked all the humans she's met so far, adults and mini-humans! She has been to a few busy adoption events and behaved quite well. My human met her at an event and was pawleasantly surprised at how well she behaved. WOOF!
Gwen Stefani gets along with other dogs she's met quite well. She has been introduced to two cats and was respectful! WOOF! WOOF!

Dog Foster Humans Wanted!
WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! After pawing and barking with my pawsome friend the "Great Dane Dame" from the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, I learned that many rescues are having to put a "hold" on taking in new dogs to help find their "Forever Homes" and humans to love! WOOF! WOOF! Barkingly, the shelters are close, if not already, full!
That's really a shame because I love my humans and my "Forever Home" and I am forever grateful for the love and care my foster gave me when I was rescued. WOOF! Barks.
Being a foster is much like having your own dog. You care for the dog like it's your own. You train him. You teach him how to live in a home if he hasn't had the training. You teach him how to let you know when he needs outside to do his business. You evaluate him to learn if he is good around other dogs. Bark, you learn about how he is around cats. Paws, you learn if the dog is good with mini-humans! Barks.
The cool thing about being a foster is you can meet pawlenty of dogs and help them to find humans to love them and their "Forever Homes!" Barkingly, another nice thing is when you travel or have something to come up, you can get one of the fosters within the rescue to help out and care for your dog for you! It's really win-win.
Barks, to learn more about fostering, please visit these rescues and inquire.

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Operation Paws for Homes
Photo: Operation Paws for Homes Creative: Allen Pearson |
Meet my pawsome friend Oddball from Operation Paws for Homes! She is around 7-months-old medium-size, Shepherd/Akita mix.
Photo: Operation Paws for Homes Creative: Allen Pearson |
Oddball is a sweet and incredibly smart girl who is adjusting quite well in her foster home.
Barkingly, in the few weeks she's been at her foster home, she has learned several commands. She has learned how to sleep in her crate and to go potty outside- though she's still learning that skill.
Oddball picked up training remarkably easily. She is eager to pawlease and very treat motivated.
Oddball's favorite thing is snuggling on the couch with her foster humans getting belly rubs.
WOOF! Paws, Oddball's an energetic girl who loves playing too! She loves attention and seeks reassurance when unsure about something. She loves human interaction so expect lots of love and affection!
Oddball tested positive for Lyme before arriving at the rescue. Lymes is a very common type of bacteria that infects dogs and other species and is spread by ticks. Lymes is not contagious to humans or other pets. The only way to get this disease is to be bitten by a tick that carries it. The treatment is typically 21-30 days of antibiotics. This dog started treatment upon arriving at the rescue. Barks. '
If you would like to learn more about dog adoption, pawlease visit Operation Paws for Homes Adoption Guide.
If you would like to meet or apply to adopt Oddball, pawlease complete the Operation Paws for Homes Dog Adoption Application.
Unable to adopt? BARKS, how about supporting Oddball financially? Donations will assist with her care. Any extra funds will be used to assist other dogs at Operation Paws for Homes. Interested, please donate HERE!

MEOWS! MEOW! I hope you had a happy and safe 4th of July Independence Day celebration! I enjoyed the day but the storms later in the day were a bit annoying! MEOWS! Followed by a lot of fireworks. Thankfully, we didn't have very many really close to the house like my humans say have happened in years past! Meow.
My friend "Cat Lady" from PetConnect Rescue brought by an extremely handsome green-eyed black cat, almost as handsome as me, for you to meet this week....Mr. Magic!
HISS! Mr. Magic appeared out of nowhere and was rescued by one of PetConnect Rescue foster volunteers! A search for his humans was unsuccessful so he settled down at his foster home. He pawsitively loves head and neck massages and purrs really loud! MEOWS!
Meow, PetConnect Rescue's Veterinarian says Mr. Magis is probably around 2-3-years-old! He is current on vaccinations and preventatives and a very healthy guy!
Meow, paws, Mr. Magic is one easy-going guy! He wants nothing more than a sunny spot on the couch next to you while you watch your favorite TV show, read a book or magazine. Purrs. He'd enjoy a little tickling behind the ears too.
Paws, he will probably do best as your one-and-only-cat-that-is! PetConnect Rescue doesn't know how he feels about dogs!
With the kitten crazies behind him. Mr. Magic will be a charming fella content to snooze while you are at work and welcome you home. He will be a pawsome companion!
If you would like to learn more about cat adoption, pawlease visit PetConnect Rescue's Adoption Guide!
If you would like to meet Mr. Magic or apply to adopt him, pawlease complete the PetConnect Rescue Cat Adoption Application! Paws, once completed and submitted, a PetConnect Rescue Adoption Coordinator will contact you.
Unable to adopt? Pawlease consider supporting Mr. Magic financially. Donations will assist with his care. Any extra funds will be used to assist other cats at PetConnect Rescue. Interested, please donate HERE!
