Back-to-School: Pray for Our Students

"Back-To-School!"
(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!

"WOOFS! Meows! Barks!"

"I saw a school bus driving up the road the other afternoon, Noah!"

"Barkingly, I know Abby! I saw it too. It's hard to believe that summer is almost over!"

"Meows! Be careful saying that around Dad, Noah and Abby! He loves the summer and gets depressed when it comes to an end. Noah knows about this since he's been around Dad the longest but you haven't Abby... it's not pretty when the season ends and Dad has to stay inside more. I've often thought about wintering in the Caribbean and leaving him here! MEOWS!"

"Barkingly, either way Samson, humans need to remember that school in some areas has started back and in some areas it will start soon! Woofs!"

"Meows! Either way you two dogs, humans driving to and from work, or even just around town need to be on alert for school buses stopping to pick up or unload mini-humans. Also, pay close attention in school zones for mini-humans running all over the pawlace! Hiss! Careless driving can cause accidents. Since we've had a few months without school buses on the road or mini-humans heading to school it's easy to not pay attention. Pawlease do so!"

"Arfs, just a refresher since it's been a few months. When the YELLOW lights begin flashing on a school bus, you should begin pawparing to stop your vehicle. You do not have to stop while the bus is still moving. When the red lights are flashing you are required by law to stop your vehicle and not proceed until the lights are turned off.

"Barkingly, also, we need to remember to pray for our students for a safe, happy, school year and that they will learn a lot! Paws, remember those who will come in contact with the mini-humans like  school bus drivers, cafeteria workers, janitors, administrators, counselors, and teachers... the list could go on and on!"

We hope you have a pawsome 2022-2023 School Year!

My friends at Operation Paws for Homes brought by a beautiful 3-year-old Retriever mix who is looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too! Meet Black Fish!

Black Fish is a pawsomely special girl who needs a patient adopter who will help her to continue learning to trust others.

Woofs, Black Fish, once she learns to trust you, loves attention and affection. She loves being hear her humans.

Barkingly, she seems to be a low/medium-energy dog who enjoys relaxing and lounging with her humans but likes to pawlay with her toys, chew on bones, and stuffies- she might try to steal your fuzzy-wuzzy slippers too. Paws, a toy will easily redirect her.

Woofs, she loves her crate and is puppy-pad trained. She is working on going potty in a secure yard! She wants her own crate in her "Forever Home!" to go to when she needs to decompress! She likes to have her meals there too.

Barksters, she is slowly learning to walk on a leash but this is a new and scary adventure for her., She can jump at least three feet! Paws, for this reason, she needs a six-foot fenced yard!

Paws, Black Fish would like to have another doggie friend. She has learned a bit from her confident foster sister and would like to continue doing so! She taught me humans are pretty cool! A confident dog in her "Forever Home!" will be a pawsome benefit.

Woofs, Black Fish is a pawsome girl. She will just need some time to get acquainted with her new home and family.

Barkingly, she would love a home in a suburban or rural environment where it's a bit quieter!

MEOWS!! Cats are the bestest-ever pet humans could ever adopt! We don't require walks or much exercising, some but not as much as dogs, nor do you have to be around ALL the time to take care of us. Of course, truer words were never spoken by anyone but a pawsome cat like myself! Paws, you need to consider adding a pawnderful cat to your home and begin the pawsome journey of having a cat in your home and life.

Meows, Reggie and Veronica are bonded buddies who must be adopted together. You will enjoy their silly antics as they are constantly in motion.

Meows, pawingly, there was a time when Veronica became very sick. She required special injections to help get her well. Her ever protective brother wouldn't leave her side! He seemed to know she was having a bad day so he'd give her lots of lovin's, grooming, and comfort on those days!

Purringly, this bonded pair is happy and healthy! They are ready to find a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love both of them. At nearly a year old, they are pawsitively absolutely inseparable.

WOOFS! Happy Friday, my friends! It's been a bit of a busy week for us! We've been working on some digital clean-up, closing one website, and looking to make this one more interesting. What can be more fun than reading a blog written by two dogs and a cat? Best reading ever!

This week, my friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue brought by a barkingly handsome fella looking for his "Forever Home!" in a rural or suburban single-family home with no fencing requirement. He wants to be your one-and-only-dog-that-is! Meet Houston!

Houston is a very sensitive fella with a very big heart! Barksly, he can be a bit fearful of humans, dogs, and new situations so he'll need an adopter who will help him navigate the world with confidence. WOOFS! He is looking for that special human who will be believes in him, loves him, and wants to show him how pawsome life can truly be!

Houston has pawlenty of energy and will benefit from lots of exercise! Paws, he has no interest in going to a dog park though! He is learning to pawlay fetch! He knows the "sit" and "stay" commands and the difference between a shoe and a toy!

Fortunately, he mostly understands fetch, and has great house manners. He was kept outside of a crate during his stay in foster and didn't touch a single thing when left home alone. He was accident free in his time in foster as well.

Houston has pawsome house manners! He hasn't been crated while staying at his foster's home and has been accident-free! WOOFS! BARKS!

Barks, under his sometimes scared exterior, Houston is a dog that desperately wants to be loved and have a human to call his own!

My friends from Operation Paws for Homes brought by a small-size, female, adult Beagle mix who is around 3 years old! Meet Blackwater Falls (Anna).  She is looking for her "Forever Home" with humans to love who will love her too!

Blackwater Falls is a very sweet, cuddly, and silly girl who keeps her foster family entertained with her goofy antics!

She has an energy level that require her to require short walks but is mostly a lounger! Barking, unless she's pawlaying with her canine buddies inside the foster's home. Click here and here to see me in foster care!

Blackwater Falls says that her pawfect "Forever Home!" will have humans home with her most of the day, a canine sibling to wrestle and play with; a comfy couch for napping; limited noise from  the outside world (sorry, no apartments or busy neighborhoods, pawlease); no small mini-humans as they scare me, and the humans will not want to take me for walks for to a dog park.

Dog Travels: A Trip to the Beach with Noah

"Dog Enjoying the Beach"

My human keeps forgetting this most important trait about me- I am dog! I am not human but dog! Of which, I am thankful to paw the least! Since I go so many places with my human these days, since he chats with me while we are walking down a trail or a hike or in the stores and while riding in the car, yes- people look and stare- he sometimes forgets that I am dog, not a silly human. Sometimes preparations need to be made for me to go to all these places with him. Paw to his credit, he gets it right more often than not! A friend’s beach trip discussion reminded him a little more planning than usual goes into these trips.

For one, thank goodness, dogs do not need speedos! We prefer the au naturel look when swimming whether at the beach, lake, backyard pool, or creek by the house- so we won’t embarrass you- and, ourselves for that matter.

Before heading out, be pawsitive the beach is dog-friendly.  While many have dog hours usually before 9 a.m. and after 5 or 6 p.m., be pawsitive to check times. Barkingly, check the rules so you and Fido aren’t disappointed. Leashed? Unleashed? Carry a long leash-just in case!

Can Fido swim? Don’t assume all dogs swim and are not afraid of water!  Some dogs are pawsitively afraid of water so be paws to read up on the nature of your dog’s breed. BARK! While there are exceptions to every rule, it’s good to have an idea of how Fido might react. If Fido seems afraid or scared at the beach, do not force the issue allow the idea to become a possible reality- barks! A dog life vest is a pawsome item to bring!

Just as you use sunblock at the beach, be sure to bring some along for Fido.  Dogs can get sunburned and skin cancer like humans- especially young puppies and dogs with thin coats!  Contact your Veterinarian for their recommendations on dog sunblock products.

When you arrive at the beach, scout the area for dangerous objects like glass, rocks, critters from the ocean, garbage, and coral that could hurt Fido. Items can be hidden by the sand too- so be diligent!

Stay away from choppy or rough waters. The first time I went to a lake, the waves coming in startled me as did the jet skis and boats as I hadn’t seen them before. I can only imagine what the beach will be like!

WOOF! Be pawsitive to pick up any and all of Fido’s moments he creates on the beach.  No one wants to step in the stuff, including you, so take along bags designated for cleaning up! You will make Fido the hit of the beach!  WOOFs!

Water is always an important part of a dog’s life. Be paws to carry plenty of water, ice, and a collapsible water dish so when Fido gets really hot he can have clean water to drink.  My human tries to keep me from drinking from streams, lakes, creeks, and the like as it isn’t clean!

Barkingly, when leaving the beach, wash the sand off your dog paying particular attention to his paws.  Rinse well to get off all the germs!

WOOF! Seeing my human in his speedo is enough to make this dog want to stay in his travel crate and never leave for the entire vacation! BARK! I mean, oh my goodness- really?  WOOF!!
