"WOOF!"

"MEOWS! HISS! What's up Noah?"

"GRRROOOWWWLLLL! This Sunday, November 1, we go back to Eastern Daylight Time with Daylight Saving Time ending at 2 a.m.! The warm weather is going away and the daylight is getting shorter. Not my favorite time of year nor is it Dads!

"HISS! Meow... meow! What difference does it really make in the grand scheme of things of hairy drooly dog brother of mine?"

"Barkingly, probably not much. It just takes a while to get used to it getting dark outside at around 5 p.m. We have to make certain we get our evening walk in before too late. Woof, paws, I like the warmer weather better too but we have to let the snow-crazy humans their time too. Bark."

"Purrs... I don't have to worry about anything! I will keep enjoying life as a spoiled-not-too-much cat."

"BARKS! Humans need to remember to set their clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night. Paws, don't want to be late for church on Sunday!"

WOOF! WOOF! Barks, my friends at PetConnect Rescue brought by three dogs who are looking for their "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love them too! Paws, please meet my new friend Champion!

Champion is a 1-year-old Pit Bull mix! He is great with other dogs and seems to love everyone he meets including mini-humans! He is full of puppy playfulness so he will need a "Forever Home!" with a yard to play and romp around!

After Champion has a good run, he loves to snuggle on the bed with his humans. BARKS! He even knows how to put his head on a pillow!

He is way too interested in cats. Barks, no felines in his new "Forever Home!"

Champion is crate- and house-trained.

If you have questions, or would like more information about Champion, pawlease contact Katie at KHasse@petconnectrescue.org.

Barkingly, Fran is a 9-year-old Harrier Hound mix. Though she is an older girl, she still has the energy and enjoys running in the backyard!

She has pawcellent house manners and is fully house trained!

Barkingly, in true hound fashion, her recall is very spotty! With her love of running and the tendency to follow her nose, she requires a large fenced yard and will not do well in an apartment or townhouse. Paws, she will not do well with cats.

WOOFS! Woof! Fran prefers the quiet country setting overcrowded sidewalks and constant traffic noises.

Paws, Fran gets along well with other dogs and humans! She is very easy-going and will make a great companion.

If you have questions about Fran or would like more information, pawlease contact Diane at 703-618-2502.

Bolt is extremely cuddly and wiggly and just wants humans to love him! His foster mom says he quite the snuggler!

Woof, he enjoys going for walks but tends to pull a bit. He can use some training. Barkingly, he is very responsive to corrections and very treat motivated!

Bolt is house- and crate-trained.

Happy Friday! I hope you have a great weekend of fun, especially for Halloween, planned for you and your family! BARKS! My friend the "Great Dane Dame" of the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League brought by a buddy looking for a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too! Meet Deac!

Deac is a 6-year-old Harlequin Great Dane who doesn't let his age slow him down! He has high-energy for a Dane his age but has trouble with going upstairs. He just needs to take it slow.
Great Dane Dog Adoption

Woofs, he gets along well with other dogs but will bark every time due to excitement. Barkingly, other than that, he does well on a leash. Paws, he will stay fairly close to his human whenever on a walk.

Barks, Deac is a gentle fella with everyone he meets! Whenever he meets someone for the first time, they instantly fall in love with his sweet-loving-self!

Paws, loud noises do not seem to bother him but he is very attentive to every noise.

Barkingly grand, baths are not a problem for Deac as long as the water stays off his sweet head! He loves being dried off with a towel!

WOOF! Most Danes barkingly love being next to their humans wanting all the lovin's they can get. Deac is no exception! The more you love him, the more love you'll get!

BARKS! If you are interested in learning more about adopting a Great Dane, meeting or applying to pawssibly adopt Deac, pawlease visit the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League Adoption Guide.

Halloween Safety Tips for Your Dog and Cat!

(C) 2020, from The Dog's Paw!
(C) from The Dog's Paw

“MEOWS! I really don’t like Halloween. It’s too scary. I don’t know what to expect!”

“Samson, I know what you mean. Barkingly, I think this year is going to be a bit different because of the COVID stuff going on! WOOF! Barkingly, our humans know we don’t like Halloween and do several things to help us through the evening."

“Purrs, like what?”

“Barks, they usually do not answer the door so we will not see any monsters, ghosts, goblins, Frankensteins, none of those scary creatures. If they do, Dad answers the door and Mom keeps us occupied so we aren’t frightened. WOOF! Many dogs and cats will escape out of the front door when they are frightened by trick-or-treaters. Paws, you’ll notice they let me out early evening to do my business to keep tricksters from doing mean things to me. Paws, because of COVID restrictions, or whatever they are being called, there will pawssibly be less mini-humans trick or treating this year."

“Meow, purrs, that will help me not to see a ghost or something else scary!”

"Barks, one thing for sure Samson, Dad and Mom will not be taking us out trick or treating. They never do and never will since it's not safe for us. Even if they had mini-humans to take out, they would leave us at home!"

"HISS! Meows, why? Not that I want to go, mind you, but I am curious!"

"Barkingly, on Halloween, the streets can be busy with excited mini-humans dressed up and their parents all focused on having fun. Taking us along could add to the chaos. Paws, we would just want to get into the candy and upset the little mini-humans. Or, go after some frightening looking mini-human or adult. Woofs, I'd pawssibly be barking all night!"

"Whew! Meows."

“Woof, typically, I stay in my crate. Paws, it’s kept open so if I get scared, I can go in and curl up. Barkingly, for you, since you love to hide in the basement, they will make sure you can hide there or in a bedroom, someplace that’s comfortable or happy for you. Mom will place your toys, food, and water there too.”

“Purrs, so like a safe room, right?”

“Paws, yes, it’s especially great if they plan a party! You can stay in your room and not be bothered. Oh, and, before I forget, if they have a party, some humans are messy and you might find food-stuff on the floor and even drinks within reach. Don’t eat stuff or drink anything that Mom and Dad don’t give you. Party favors, chocolate candy, hard candies, and other party type food and drinks can make you really sick, maybe even death, if you get into it!”

“OH, MY PURRS! I didn’t know that!”

“WOOF! While you prowl around, keep yourself and that pawsome long-haired tail away from any candles, fire pits, and lit pumpkins! Barks! You could slip or your tail knocks over the candle causing a fire. Paws, I hope humans are aware and just don’t set out candles. Barkingly, if any mini-humans play with those glow-sticks or glow-stick jewelry, don’t go near it. It can be toxic to dogs and cats.”

“MEOW! You are one smart doggy, Mr. Noah!”

“Barks, thank you, Mr. Samson! One thing we do not have to worry about is our humans dressing us up for Halloween. Our humans do not like doing it because it could be really stressful on us and there are parts of many costumes which can come loose and we might eat them. Not good. They are always on the lookout for our good! WOOF! BARKS!

WOOFS! With COVID restrictions this year, some areas are suggesting different ways to celebrate Halloween. If you do something different this year, and when decorating, pawlease remember to be extra-vigilant in caring for your dog or cat's safety.

Barkingly, humans, if your dog or cat should get into something they shouldn’t, call your Veterinarian immediately. If they are closed, contact your local Animal ER Hospital or contact the Pet Poison Helpline at the 24/7 Animal Poison Control Center, (855) 764-7661."

WOOF! Barks! Meet my pawsome friend Kalei from Operation Paws for Homes. She is looking for a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too! Barks.

Kalei (Kay-Leigh) is a super-social pawsomely adorable 5 -year old Labrador/Pit Bull Terrier mix!

Kalei likes making friends with humans and dogs wherever she goes. Bakingly, she will pawssibly do best in a home with dogs close to her size and larger. She likes mini-humans too.

Kalei loves going for walks, doing with yoga you or coaching you through your workout.

Barks, she knows how to snuggle and relax too! If you'll let her, she will curl up with you at night while watching TV! She doesn't usually get on furniture on her own.

Woofs, she does need some accommodation- she cannot be crated. She does well in a home with a fenced yard and a doggy door! She is looking for those features in her "Forever Home!" She wants to let herself out to do her business when you are not home!

Paws, Kalei will "steal your heart with her eyes!"

National I Love Lucy Day!

I Love Lucy Job Switching by Dawna Kaulen
"I Love Lucy Job Switching"
by Dawna Kaulen, Flickr Creative Commons

"WOOF! You know what day today is, right, Sammy?"

"Meows. Hiss! No, but I know you're going to tell me, right?"

"BARKS! YES! You need to be kept current- up-to-date on the latest and greatest, especially an impawtant day as this!"

"Purrs! Just tell me so I can get back to napping in the sun near the window so I can peek at the birds too!"

"GRRR! WOOF!! It's National I Love Lucy Day!"

"Purr- oh. Ok. So? I mean, what do you want me to do about it?"

"Well, we have to celebrate! I Love Lucy starring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley, made its debut on October 15, 1951. It created a new television experience by being the first filmed and scripted program performed before a live audience. The new concept, the I Love Lucy show, was popular, winning five Emmy Awards and numerous awards. Three cameras were used to provide views from several angles, creating quite a popular show.

Sammy, did you know the I Love Lucy show was the most-watching show in its airtime slot for most of the seasons it aired? These days, at any given moment, someplace, somewhere in this pawsome universe, is "I Love Lucy" playing on someone's television! It is credited with being the longest broadcasted show in history!"

"So, meows, I guess we have to celebrate this day somehow, right? Hiss!"

"Of course! Lest we be slackers in acknowledging this great show. National Calendar Day provided a few suggestions-

  • Experience the flavor of I Love Lucy by cooking recipes from The I Love Lucy Cookbook.
  • Test your knowledge of the sitcom by reading the "I Love Lucy Book of Trivia."
  • Lucille Ball knew how to turn a phrase. Read more in The Quotable I Love Lucy.
  • Watch a documentary or your favorite episodes.
  • Dress up as the iconic comedian and bring some humor to those around you.
Barks! When you celebrate National I Love Lucy Day, pawlease share your favorite Lucy antics using #ILoveLucy when posting on social media.

Paws, you know how we'll celebrate the day? Right Sammy?"

"HISS! I am afraid to ask! I know you and Dad- especially Dad - he loves the show and gets a little weird with it. ... I shall do my usual thing until everything else gets out of control... hide in the basement or somewhere-! So tell me, Noah, how?"

"Woof, I saw Dad grab a set of DVDs from his complete collection of "I Love Lucy" on DVD! I'm thinking of a marathon of shows on the day. Instead of fighting it, we can watch them again and annoy for more treats!"

Paws, how will you celebrate "National I Love Lucy Day?" Please share in the comments below!

Salty is looking for a "Forever Home" in a rural or suburban single-family home with limited stops. He will need a fenced yard.

Woofly, Salty is enjoying his foster home. He is a sweetheart and loves humans.

Salty is working on learning his leash skills. Barks, he still gets excited when going for walks but is calming down as he learns the neighborhood.

Barkingly, he isn't a fan of the full staircase! He does some steps with his foster's encouragement but limited is recommended as they make him nervous!

Barks, at home, he likes to follow his fosters around the house or lounges on his dog bed by the back door.

WOOF! Barkingly, he slept a night out of his crate and did pawsomely well! Barks!

Paws, Salty is healthy and active. He loves going outside in the backyard and playing. He loves retrieving and thinks getting treats is great!

Salty loves going for car rides and going to new places.  He loves playtime too.

Barkingly, Salty would like a family with a fenced yard who will give him lots of love, playtime, and walks!
