Happy Leap Day!

Allen Pearson Photography
(C) Allen Pearson Photography

"MEOWS! Noah! What is 'Leap Day' and why should we be happy about it?"

"WOOF! Barks, it's an extra day in the calendar for us to have more fun!"

"Why?"

"It's one of those barkingly human things which happens every four years."

"Uh oh. A human thing. That spells problems to start with. At least it's not a government-run thing or we'd really be messed up or the day would be regulated to no end!"

"WOOF! I know. I won't go there with that! Barks, it's for good reason that we have the extra day. Paws, it's complicated to bark though. The simplest explanation is the day is added to the calendar every four years as a corrective measure to the human calendar. Arf, since the Earth does not orbit the sun in exactly 365 days, the added day keeps us closely aligned. Though not as pawfect as we would like, the added day allows us to be more exact with the changes of the seasons, equinoxes, and the like. BARKS! The day was added to February since it is the only month without 30 or 31 days."

"Meows, that's interesting to know. All I know and care about is that I get an extra day to nap, lay on my table, and watch the birds at the feeders! I'll take it!"

"WOOF! I know! I'm going to get Dad to take me on a longer walk to celebrate the day! That'll be really cool!"

"Barks, how do you plan to enjoy your extra day or 'Leap Day?' Please share in the comments below!"

WOOF! Happy Friday! My new friends at PetConnect Rescue have selected a few dogs for you to meet who are looking for their "Forever Homes!" with humans to love who will love them. BARKS!

Photo: PetConnect Rescue
Creative: Allen Pearson
Pawlease to introduce to you Skeeter! He is a 1-year-old Hound mix! He can be shy at first, barks, once he warms up, he is a pawsome lovebug! WOOF! WOOF! His initial shyness is due to impaired vision. Barks, while his eyesight is limited, his enthusiasm and zest for life isn't impacted besides needing to warm up to you! Barks, many dogs without that limitation need to warm up to their new humans!

Skeeter loves running, playing, and making new friends! He is pawsomely great with other dogs and new humans. With his impaired vision, he startles easily, so he will do best in a home without very young mini-humans.

Skeeter is a smart fella and food motivated so additional training should be easy!

Skeeter is heartworm positive! PetConnect Rescue is covering his treatment costs.

Barks and Paws, Skeeter is house- and crate-trained!

This is Dale! He is around 2-years-old and pawssibly a Lab/Hound mix.

Dale was living outside chained to a dog house before coming to PetConnect Rescue! He is so happy to be at his foster home learning about all the comforts of living indoors.  He can't wait to find his own home!

He is great with other dogs he's met, seems to do well with cats, and is friendly with the humans he's met!

Barks, while he loves playtime, his favorite activity is being with his humans!

Dale arrived at the rescue heartworm positive! Barks, PetConnect is treating his for this! He is up-to-date on his preventatives and vaccinations!

Dale is barkingly excited to be looking for a "Forever Home!"

Noah Goes to Church!

Oak Dale Baptist Church - Allen Pearson Photography
Oak Dale Baptist Church

WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! I got to go to church with my human! BARKS! I loved every minute of it too!

Barkingly, being a Service Dog, I get to go everywhere with my human. Sometimes, Mom will go in my place like to restaurants since most of the time Dad usually never goes there without her. Woofsly, I help Dad to go to many places and we always have a great time. I've heard him say that he is grateful for me since I allow him to get out more! WOOF!

Noah at Church, Allen Pearson Photography
"Noah at Church"

Paws, one Sunday, Mom had to work at her hospitality job at another church but Dad still wanted to go to their church so he put my Service Dog Vest and Leash on me and off we went! WOOF! WOOF!

Barks, I was so warmly and lovingly welcomed I was completely surprised! I couldn't get over the friendliness. Barkingly, I was pawleased to find that they understood about petting me after asking Dad's permission. With a Service Dog, that is VERY IMPAWTENT! Service Dogs are not to be petted! You could distract the dog from their work which wouldn't be good. Bark. Dad allows people to pet me if they ask and he is in a position where he would not fall. WOOF!

Woof, I enjoyed the church service too. This guy and a few others got up to sing some songs and talk a bit. I wanted to howl with them but I didn't. The guy who played the drums was incredible! I would have like to sit next to him and play a time or two too! The guitarists were pawsome except I never did hear one of the rock-sounding chords like you hear by Lincoln Brewster on Everlasting God! The pianist was pawsome too and the lady who played before the guy got up to talk- forever! woof!

Dad and Mom really like the guy who got up and talked forever! WOOF! I thought he was great! Paws, I learned a lesson too- I should not yawn during his time of speaking! WOOF! WOOF! Barkingly, it wasn't intended as it could have been taken!

Barks, I can't wait until I get to go again! WOOF! WOOF!

WOOF! WOOF! My friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue brought by a pawsomely cool girl for you to meet! Annie!

Annie is around 8-years-old. She is looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her in a rural or suburban single-family house with limited steps. She has no fence requirements!

Annie has been working on her sweet-self so she can be the bestest-dog-ever. Do you like her collage of photos? She made that herself!

Annie has been learning about her new life as a dog and being loved by humans. She was found as a stray and sadly, no humans came looking for her. She has been learning about her self so she can share with you about her pawsomeness!

Annie is a sweet and calm girl who is quite beautiful too! Barks, she loves being with her humans relaxing! She enjoys comfy beds and being a couch potato too!

Annie loves having her own private space but likes family time too. She doesn't need a crate but pawssibly a space to call her own!

Paws, Russian Twist loves playing fetch with toys and balls but she really loves being with her human. She likes to climb in her lap to be as close as pawssible and get all the pets she can! WOOF! Barks!
Russian Twist is not completely house trained yet but she is crate-trained, paws, as long as you provide a few treats! Once in, she's calm and quiet!

Operation Paws for Homes will treat the dog and provide two weeks of recovery time prior to adoption. Potential adopters will receive detailed information on the disease and their role in completing the recovery process from Operation Paws for Homes Heartworm Coordinator. WOOF! WOOF! Barks. Meet my pawsome friend Desert Golden Sun Cup, or Sun Cup for short, from Operation Paws for Homes! She is a beautiful Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix and pawssibly around 4-years-old.

Sun Cup has raised 5 puppies who have found their "Forever Homes!" and now she is looking for hers!

Sun Cup is a large girl, around 72 lbs., and loves belly rubs and tennis balls! She can't seem to get enough of either!

Sun Cup has pawsomely great house manners. She crates well too though she may need some encouragement to go in. A few treats will do it but once she's in, she settles nicely.

Sun Cup walks well on a leash. She is a quick learner and responds pawsomely well to positive training.

She loves humans and has never met a stranger. Barkingly, she does prefer a home with older mini-humans! Young mini-humans are too unpredictable for her.

Sun Cup has enjoyed playing with other dogs she's met. Paws, she is not too sure about cats because they remind her of squirrels and she wants to chase!

She loves outdoor adventures as well as being lazy on Sundays!

Paws, if you are looking for a large dog with medium energy who loves her humans, Sun Cup might be the dog for you!

Barks, Sun Cup tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to Operation Paws for Homes. The disease was treated while in foster care. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read more about heartworm disease here.
