WOOF! WOOF! Barks. Meet my pawsome friend Desert Golden Sun Cup, or Sun Cup for short, from Operation Paws for Homes! She is a beautiful Yellow Labrador Retriever Mix and pawssibly around 4-years-old.

Sun Cup has raised 5 puppies who have found their "Forever Homes!" and now she is looking for hers!

Sun Cup is a large girl, around 72 lbs., and loves belly rubs and tennis balls! She can't seem to get enough of either!

Sun Cup has pawsomely great house manners. She crates well too though she may need some encouragement to go in. A few treats will do it but once she's in, she settles nicely.

Sun Cup walks well on a leash. She is a quick learner and responds pawsomely well to positive training.

She loves humans and has never met a stranger. Barkingly, she does prefer a home with older mini-humans! Young mini-humans are too unpredictable for her.

Sun Cup has enjoyed playing with other dogs she's met. Paws, she is not too sure about cats because they remind her of squirrels and she wants to chase!

She loves outdoor adventures as well as being lazy on Sundays!

Paws, if you are looking for a large dog with medium energy who loves her humans, Sun Cup might be the dog for you!

Barks, Sun Cup tested positive for heartworm disease before arriving to Operation Paws for Homes. The disease was treated while in foster care. Heartworm disease is transmitted to a dog through a bite from an infected mosquito. With monthly preventatives, the disease is completely preventable. Read more about heartworm disease here.

If you would like to meet or pawssibly adopt Sun Cup, pawlease complete the Operation Paws for Homes Dog Adoption Application.

Creative: Allen Pearson
Oh Barks! I haven't met a German Shepherd mix needing a "Forever Home!" and humans to love since I started writing these Friday's Friend posts, not at least from what I can remember! WOOF! Meet my new friend "Bug" from Operation Paws for Homes! He is looking for a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too!

Bug's foster family calls him "Murph" which he seems to like!

Murph is ready to to be adopted and loved on by humans as he already knows commands like "Sit," "Down," "Wait," "Come," "Let's go," "Touch," "Lap," "Kisses," "Hugs," "Hup," "Go to bed," "Inside/outside," "Get it/Bring it," "Give," "Car," and "Take a break" (potty on command). WOOF how grand and smart is that?! He may be able to learn to fetch your newspaper too!

Murph is no small dog! He is around 98 lbs. and loves playing and being with his humans. He loves pawleasing his humans too- and will be a loyal companion- noted of the German Shepherd breed. Barkingly, he is protective too!

He is house- and crate-trained. Exercise is a must!

A PetConnect Rescue News Release-

(C) PetConnect Rescue, Used by Permission
PetConnect Rescue, Inc. Disclaimer

WOOF! BARK! Meows! Purr! Samson and I decided we needed to share this news story with you since we are always writing about dogs and cats needing "Forever Homes!," and fund-raising events supporting PetConnect Rescue! WOOF! As most of you know, PetConnect Rescue was responsible for rescuing me as a stray in North Carolina and finding me a new home with my humans! Pawlease read:

"PetConnect Rescue is NOT affiliated with Pet Connect Rescue out of Joplin, MO, or any other organization with the same or similar name.

PetConnect Rescue, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization based out of Potomac, MD, dedicated to saving dogs and cats at high risk of euthanasia since 2005. We have rescued and found loving forever homes for nearly 8,000 dogs and cats from high-kill shelters over the years.

PetConnect Rescue is not affiliated with any other organization with the same or similar name anywhere in the U.S. or around the world.

Why do we have to make this disclaimer?

On January 1, 2019, the state of California’s new Pet Rescue and Adoption Act went into effect, requiring retail shops to offer only rescue or shelter puppies, not puppy mill puppies. We at PetConnect Rescue celebrated this legislation, like so many rescues and rescue advocates who have been fighting puppy mills and commercial breeders.

Around that time, we began receiving calls and emails asking if we were selling puppies in California pet stores or asking for more information on a rescue puppy “adopted” for thousands of dollars.

We discovered that a Joplin, MO-based organization affiliated with known commercial breeders and calling itself Pet Connect Rescue, Inc., has been supplying puppies to retail pet stores in California, which have been advertising them as “rescues.” The only difference in the otherwise identical names is a space between two words: PetConnect Rescue (us, in Maryland) and Pet Connect Rescue (Joplin, Missouri).

People looking at puppies have been told that there are Pet Connects all over the U.S., and to contact the rescue for more information. When potential “adopters” search “Pet Connect,” we come up because we’re legitimate. People then assume that we are affiliated with the Pet Connect out of Joplin, MO. We have fielded numerous calls, emails, and Facebook messages, and have spent a lot of time educating those who contact us about who we are, and who this other organization is.

Shockingly, the Joplin-based organization (along with several others) has been able to get a legitimate 501(c)(3) designation from the federal government and has been using the designation to exploit a loophole in the California law to promote themselves as a non-profit working with rescues.

Several animal advocacy groups and animal law enforcement, along with several state attorneys general, are working to expose and crack down on these fake rescues and the stores that sell the puppies, while trying to get the law’s loophole closed. One group, the Companion Animal Protection Society, recently released an expose on how animal breeders and their middlemen, including Pet Connect out of Joplin, have been posing as legitimate 501(c)(3) rescue organizations, allowing them to sell their animals in California.

To view the Companion Animal Protection Society’s expose on California’s pet stores, go to, go to this link.

To view the Bailing Out Benji story that discusses these fake rescues—and also specifically notes that we are NOT the Pet Connect Rescue selling puppies–read here.

If you see a story about a Pet Connect Rescue selling puppies in pet stores in California, it is NOT us, and there is absolutely no affiliation. We would appreciate if you would forward any such stories to us at info@petconnectrescue.org."

Pawlease note, "from The Dog's Paw" is not affiliated directly with any rescue organization. We voluntarily support several local rescues with writing and photography to assist the dogs and cats get adopted. PetConnect Rescue of Potomac, Maryland is one of the rescues.
