Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

Photo: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
Creative: Allen Pearson

WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! Last week, I got the pawsome news from "Lab Lady" at Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc. about a pawsome volunteer with a Christmas wish for all the senior dogs, dogs age 9 or older, be adopted by the New Year! WOOF!

Barkingly, I love the idea too, paw, the oppawtunity to adopt a senior dog and have the adoption fee covered by the volunteer's husband has been extended to January 13, 2019!

WOOF! A few humans have already taken pawsome advantage of the oppawtunity with Star and Achilles, two senior pawsome Black Labrador Retrievers, being adopted! Barks, visit Lab Rescue/Senior Dogs to learn about other dogs waiting to be adopted.

Paws, sometimes senior dogs are overlooked for puppies because they think senior dogs are "problems" which is why they are waiting to be adopted! WOOF! Paws, but that isn't necessarily true! Many times, a senior dog lost his home because his humans got sick or too old to care for them. WOOF! Barkingly and thankfully, the dog is given to a dog rescue to find someone to care for them.

Senior dogs make pawsome family pets too. I should know because I'm a 12-year-old Black Labrador/Plott Hound mix! I may have slowed down some, but that's not bad since my humans have too! We grow old together.

Barks, most senior dogs, like me, have been house- and, many times, crate- trained! Often, we know tricks, how to play with toys and how to snuggle and cuddle like the best of them.

Senior dogs make great pets for the first time dog-owner since they are already trained so it makes the first experience much easier. They are settled in their routines and can help humans to learn their skills at training. WOOF!

Often, Senior dogs make great dogs as companions for senior citizens too. Paws, sometimes senior humans get lonely in their day-to-day routine and could use some company. A senior dog isn't likely to be as rambunctious and into everything as a young puppy would probably be. We don't necessarily want to take long runs, walks or hikes. A nice stroll with their human is great! WOOF! Senior dogs will be happy to curl up on a dog bed or their human's bed to be near their human!

WOOF! Sounds like a win-win idea to me. If you would like to learn more, start by visiting Lab Rescue/Seniors!

Barks! Do you love Labrador Retrievers. but, for whatever reason, are not able to adopt? Please consider supporting Lab Rescue financially. Donations will assist with the Labrador Retrievers care.  Interested, please donate HERE!

Happy Gotcha Day Noah!

Dog
(C) Allen Pearson

Happy Gotcha Day Noah! 10 years ago, we adopted you from PetConnect Rescue! Little did we know that you would change our lives forever and become such an important member of our family!

From the first day we adopted you through now, you've had this incredible amount of energy which you use daily to get me to go for walks, play tug-of-war, and playing with toys or sticks in the backyard. Our walks went from to the corner and back, to around the block to 2 miles daily with an occasional trip to 3-4 miles.

In the years you've been with us, you taught Mom to become more of a dog lover than she ever was before, You taught her how awesome dogs are in many ways but especially by helping her care for her mother!

While our parents were ill, you made sure Mom and I and other family members were met with warm greetings! I don't know how you knew we all needed it, but you did!

When I retired from my career of 33 years to do something creative and more fun with my life, you have made it your goal to keep me company and never let me get bored.  You've made retirement much more fun than I imagined.

God certainly blessed us when we adopted you- Happy Gotcha Day Noah!

Merry Christmas Eve!

Lights
"Bright Lights"

“Barks! It’s the night before Christmas and all through the house every creature was stirring but not any mouse.”

“MEOW! EERROOWWW!!! That’s because the human’s adopted me! The greatest cat ever! Mice are afraid of me! They run! They hide! They leave!”

“Woof! Could be true Samson. Tonight is a special night though. We are going for a walk with our humans.”

“Purrs, what? I don’t get to go for walks. Meowingly, I don’t even go outside! Hiss!”

“Woof! Samson, this is a special night- even Mom is going to go with us. See? She’s putting on her winter coat, boots, gloves, a scarf, and a hat? Usually, it’s Dad and I going for walks! WOOF!”

Dog

“Meows, I know. I watch you two bundle up, grab a leash, and a few bags, out the door you go and I don’t see you for an hour or so! So nice and quiet when that happens!”

“Samson, Mom has a winter coat for you too. She bought a really nice one and a Christmasy collar and leash so you can go with us. She’s excited to put it on you and take you with us so pawlease cooperate.”

“Paws, meow, of course, I will cooperate…. It’s MOTHER and I LOVE her. Without her, I wouldn’t be living in this pawsome home!”

“Woof, Let’s get dressed and ready. I’ve got my winter coat on! Thankfully, Dad never bought those winter boats some of his friends mentioned to him- I’d be so humiliated walking in those things.

The humans are all ready! They look like Eskimos! WOOF! WOOF! It must be really cold outside! You look so cute in your new winter coat, collar, and leash! First time I’ve seen a cat in a leash! You look right dapper Samson!”

“HISS! HISS! This is just so embarrassing but I love Mom so I’ll do it!”

“It’s awfully quiet out here this evening Samson. Kind of strange. Yes, there’s a light snow falling which sometimes seems to make the universe settle down becoming very quiet. But, this night is unusual …. So quiet you can almost hear a snowflake hit the ground. WOOF! Are you OK Samson?”

“Meow, purrs….Yes, but I’m not sure what this is all about. I see other humans walking their cats too! Do you see that too? Does that happen all the time?”

“Barks! Yes, I see it too- but no, it doesn’t happen all the time. First time I’d seen a cat on a leash and going for a walk is with you!

Deer
"Deer in the Snow"

And, look, there’s the herd of deer we often see in the backyard! And the ones we see crossing the Parkway on our evening walks! WOOF! Barks! And there’s little Bambi! She was just born a few weeks ago Samson!”

“OH, MY CATNIP! WHAT’S THAT!”

“Barks, those are the critters who live in the field behind the house! We don’t see them very often because they come out at night or when they are certain we aren’t around! Woof!

Have you noticed Samson that none of the deer and other critters are afraid of us? It looks like they are going for a walk too. They seem to be hanging out with a few young boys and girls who to be the ones taking care of them who are headed to the light too!”

“Noah, I’d never seen any of these critters, except maybe a few deer which happen to roam into our yard while I’m staring out the window! But…. Noah… what is that bright light ahead of us? It seems to come down from the heavens down to the ground. Ever seen that before?”

“WOOF! Oh, my barks! No, Samson, never seen that before and it sure is bright! And, look all the humans, their dogs and cats and the critters and the deer we just saw are heading straight toward the light like we are!”

“Meow, purrs, meow. Yes, Noah, this is an interesting walk … to meow the least!”

The family continues walking and meeting more people with their pets and a few other of nature’s critters on their walk.

“Hey, Noah! Have you noticed how the bright light seems to be getting brighter as we walk toward it!

“Yes, I have, I am sniffing to see if I can learn what it is! WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! Not sure Samson but don’t worry! Dad and Mom are here! They will protect us if need be! Woof!

“HISS! HISS! HISS! NOAH! WHAT”S THAT! HISS! HISS! Coming down from the heavens!”
“Woof! Not sure! It looks like an Angel! Mom and Dad aren’t too afraid so let’s paws with them!

The family pauses and looks to the sky to see an Angel coming toward them.

And the angel said to them,
'Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy
that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior,
who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you:
you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.'”

- Luke 2:10-11

“Noah, suddenly I fell calm and relaxed. Like every fear is gone.”

“Woof! Me too.”

The family continues to walk toward the light, which appears to become brighter and brighter as they get closer. They notice a huge crowd of people surrounding where the bright light comes to the ground.

“Oh, my barks!”

“Oh, my meows!”

“Look Samson! There, where the light ends, is a stable with a manger. Looks like a mom and a dad with a baby!”

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

- Isaiah 9:6

Year-End Giving! A Sanctuary for Operation Paws for Homes?!

"Sanctuary for Dogs with Operation Paws for Homes!"
(C) Operation Paws for Homes

WOOF! I am barkingly excited to share with you some pawsome news! My friends at Operation Paws for Homes (OPH) are building a sanctuary for Dogs! WOOF! WOOF!

Paws, right now, the sanctuary is concrete with metal walls! Barks, EVERYTHING is needed including kennels, electric, septic, plumbing, insulation, dog runs, and fencing. Woofly, they need to raise funds so they can continue build out so OPH will have the resources to help dogs during emergencies as well as provide needed transition time before going to a foster home.

A really pawsome part of this fundraising is for a donation of $1000 or more, humans have the oppawtunity to have a dog run or play area named after them or a loved one (human or pet)! A pawsome nameplate will be permanently affixed to the dedicated area. WOOF! WOOF! For a donation of $150 or more, OPH will place a paw print with the name of your choice on the Wall of Fame in the sanctuary. WOOF! Pretty cool, huh?!

Paws, with your help, OPH can save the lives of dogs like Tilly! A shaggy puppy born a stray, was nameless, trusted no one and dug through garbage to feed for many litters she delivered and herself. Arf, she was scared and feared every human she met!
Dog
"Tilly"
(C) Operation Paws for Homes

WOOF! Barks, Tilly was a good mom! She fiercely protected her pups whenever rescuers tried to help. Each time they came, she would resist sending the rescuers away without her but while bringing the pups to safety to avoid a sad fate for them. WOOF! When the puppies left, she searched frantically and called out to them all night long.

After 3 long years, her rescuer showed up and told this nameless dog it was time! She gave her a name, Tilly, and that she wasn't leaving without her! Barkingly, and probably a few WOOFs too, Tilly stood her ground as the rescue effort ensued. Paws, despite the challenge, her rescuer was relieved that Tilly was headed for a new beginning!

Barks, it is nearly impawssible to rescue and place feral dogs. It is a huge commitment as there is a strong possibility the dog may never acclimate to a regular home. The process of building trust can take years.

WOOF! Watch her story here!

Barks, OPH needs a facility to support dogs like Tilly.  While they do the best they can, it's time to DREAM bigger! A sanctuary facility will allow OPH to transition dogs like Tilly who need some extra TLC to find their path! WOOF!

Barks, Emma Mama Flintstone is a precious senior girl with special needs. She has a lot of energy and tends to be anxious. When anxiety gets the best of her, most don’t understand her nervous demeanor. Paws, she has been abandoned throughout her life, WOOF, which has been tough on her.

Barks, many humans would write off dogs like Emma because of their difficulties! WOOF! Paws, OPH wants to provide her a second chance! With some extra attention, dogs like her will get their chance! WOOF! Barks!
"Emma"
(C) Operation Paws for Homes/Allen Pearson Photography

Operation Paws for Homes is dreaming big as they begin working on building a sanctuary! Dogs like Emma will receive a custom treatment plan! After so much change in her life, she needs room to exercise and play while OPH helps heal her anxiety! The extra care will help her find the "Forever Home" she needs!

Paws, if you would like to donate to help OPH build this pawsome sanctuary, pawlease visit OPH- Sanctuary Donations!

Barks and woofs, if you would like to donate to the Sanctuary by shopping, pawlease visit their Amazon Wish List. WOOF! Barks!

Pawsomely, OPH can always use some supplies for their dogs, puppies, and fosters. If you would to purchase items, pawlease visit for the Amazon Puppy Wish List!
