Tornado Warning or Tornado Watch? Do You Know The Difference?

"Tornado Warning or Tornado Watch?"
(C) 2022, Federal Emergency Management Agency

"Woofs!"

"HISS! HISS! HISS!"

"Arfs?"

"Barkingly, what's up, Samson? Why all the hissy fit?"

"Moews, I love the Spring weather but it's the season for tornadoes too! They scare me! I want to be sure my fellow feline, canine, and human readers know the difference between the two alerts you might hear from the National Weather Service!"

"Woof, me too. I don't like storms very much. In the years I have lived with our humans, we've had a few Tornado Warnings but pawlenty of Tornado Watches especially in the Spring. Thankfully, we have not been in a tornado. Dad usually practices a Tornado Warning with us at the beginning of the season so we know what to do."

"HISS! I know what to do! RUN! RUN! RUN!"

"BARKS! Only if you are heading to the basement, Samson!

Woofs, Samson and Abby, a TORNADO WARNING means a tornado is happening or is imminent in the warned area- that's when you head to the basement!"

"Arfs, can we look outside and see it, Noah?"

"No Abby, no time for that! Immediately head for shelter. In our case, it's the hallway at the end of the stairs in the basement. For some humans and their pets- don't forget them, it could be a hall bathroom, a closet, or an interior room with no window. Whatever room is in the innermost part of the house if you do not have a basement. Be sure to have a battery-operated radio with pawlenty of extra batteries, a flashlight, and a cell phone. Barkingly, if you live in an area prone to having tornadoes, it'd be wise to create an emergency kit for your storm shelter. In Virginia, we haven't had many tornadoes over the years Dad's been living here."

"Hisses! Hissingly, what does a TORNADO WATCH mean, Noah?"

"A Tornado Watch means conditions are right in your area for a tornado to form. Stay tuned to your television, radio, and cell phone for further alerts, and be pawpared to take shelter should a tornado form!"

"Arf! I feel safer knowing all that Noah! Woofs!"

"Purrs, thank you, Noah!"

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue

Labrador Retriever Adoption
Photo: Lab Rescue
Creative: from The Dog's Paw!

WOOFS! Happy Friday! Along with Samson and Noah, I had a pawsome time with my Aunt Connie and Uncle Jack! I determined a good time to do a "Sneak Like Attack" on Connie and was very successful. I waited until the humans weren't paying attention or couldn't stop me and got her! She has been fully liked and christened as my Aunt. WOOFS! She learned the blessing of having a young pup around the house!

My friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue brought by a 9-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever named Libby who is looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too! She needs a single-family home in a rural setting with a physical fence.

Libby is making pawsome pawgress in her foster home. Barkingly, she isn't the shy girl who would stay in her crate but is becoming friendly with visitors, including men. She greets visitors at the door, accepts treats, and allows pets from strangers. After keeping her distance from her foster dad, she is now his "girlfriend!" WOOFS!! GOOD FOR YOU LIBBY! Barks, she no longer tries to return home if she sees activity on the street that concerns her!

Barks, at night, Libby enjoys sleeping on a dog bed close to her foster parents.

Woofs, Libby has been quite the sweet pups with her foster siblings, four male pups ages 2 to 8! She'sbeen calm, gentle, and tolerant with each. Woofs.

Paws, a beautiful trait of Libby is her stern side-eye look! She would make a great librarian or teacher if you were making too much noise or she's suspicious of something! Don't let the look fool you though - she has her share of smiles!

Libby enjoys walks, treats, and lovin's! She is a gentle easy-going girl though not a big Lab, she does have really big Lab feet! She enjoys her crate but has the run of her foster home.

Woofs, Libby is looking for a special human to adopt her and provide a loving home. She has impaired vision but it doesn't affect her happiness! She can see shapes and navigates her way around the house and yard provided she's given extra time to learn it. She has some hearing loss and can't hear you tell her to "sit" or "come," but somehow manages to hear the refrigerator door opening or a food wrapper!

Barkingly, Libby is friendly with other dogs but does not actively play or chase. She'll do best with a calm canine companion.

Libby enjoys being outside. She loves two short walks daily. She still has the wonderings of a stray which begs the curiosity of an open door or gate to explore.

Barkingly, Libby doesn't play with toys but she has a pair of wool socks that she loves carrying around.

Woofs, last August, Libby had a mast cell tumor removed from her abdomen and needs to take Benadryl and Pepcid AC as preventatives for the rest of her life.

Paws, Libby created a few videos to help herself get adopted:

Enjoying Life!

In the Snow!

Roaming the Yard!

On a Walk!

Woofs, Libby is approved for mini-humans ages 10 and older. She is unknown with cats but good with other dogs!

MEOWS! PURRS! Well, paws, I had a pawsome visit last weekend with my Aunt Connie and Uncle Jack. She kept trying to see me and you know me, a pawsome Maine Coon cat who knows how to hide so I alluded her all the time she was here. Except, for a brief moment when I realized that her life will be so much more enlightened and blessed if she could have a glimpse of the greatest Maine Coon cat ever... so I let her see me for two whole seconds. That was it. All she needed. Purrs!

Purrs, he can eat as well as before too!

Purrings, Raven does well with dogs and cats but can be shy at first with young mini-humans. They will need to be patient and respectful while he learns to trust them. Meows.

A Barkingly New Adventure!

"Woofs!"

"MEOWS!"

"Barks?"

"Meows! Noah, so what is this new adventure I keep hearing you and Dad discussing. Why haven't we heard more about it? Is everything Ok with Dad and Mom?"

"Barks, yeah Noah, what's going on?"

"Woofs, yes, Samson and Abby, Dad and Mom are fine. Paws, I think they are the happiest they've been in a while. This move to the country was a pawsome idea. Woofings, we are going to be helping Dad to write for another website and we're going to make "from The Dog's Paw!" more entertaining. Woofs, as you know guys we quit writing for the newspaper as it was stifling our creativity and became a chore that Dad wasn't enjoying much. Also, you know, we have helped Dad quite a bit over the years with his health problems."

"MEOWS! PURRS! Yes, I give him two sessions of cat therapy every single day. I know it helps because they are the purringest 15 minutes of his day! Paws, he says it helps him feel better!"

"Barks. I'm just learning about his health problems. Paws, if you two hadn't told me, I would never have known- except I notice he does walk funny so I try to take him out once or twice a day for a walk hoping it will help. He's always telling me, good girl!"

"Woofs, good job Samson! You too, Abby! Dad says you two are doing a great job. Paws, Dad has begun a new adventure in writing. He's decided to write about the challenges he has with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) on a new website at www.isaiahjacobs.com. He is going to share some tips he has learned about living with CMT in hopes of helping others who live with CMT and other health issues. If you have CMT, have a friend with CMT, or another health problem, subscribe to his posts by email. Barks, he doesn't share email addresses with anyone."

"Meows, purringly, what will happen to us, though. You haven't mentioned what we will do if anything. Is "from The Dog's Paw!" closing? HISS! HISS?"

"Samson, not much is changing with us. We are going to focus on our original pawlan for this website, making humans laugh through sharing comics, entertaining stories, and educating them about pet care. Barks, we'll still be featuring our cat and dog friends needing "Forever Homes!" with humans to love who will love them too, in our "Friday's Friend!" posts. Paws, we are considering returning to reviewing top-notch products and books we believe humans should know about. We are still reviewing pawlans for this as it could get overwhelming.

Barks, also, Dad will be featuring stories about how we've helped him physically and mentally over the years."

"Woofs, mentally, Noah?"

"Yes, Abby, mentally."

"bark... that's a huge undertaking... and pawractically impawssible for us to do!"

"Abby, we do the best we can with what we have to work with! Mom says it's a challenge too... and everyone who really knows him agrees! Barks."

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue

Dog Adoption
Photo: Lab Rescue
Creative: from The Dog's Paw!

WOOFS! I hope you survived yesterday's and last night's serious thunderstorms. I spent the day feeling uneasy about being outside and protecting my humans so I kept them inside as best I could. We didn't have much bad weather but our friends to the north did. I hope they are Ok. Woof.

My friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue brought by a handsome older Black Labrador Retriever gentleman, just a 10-year-young, who is looking for his "Forever Home!" in a rural or suburban single-family house with a secure physical fence. A fence is required as he is an escape artist among his other pawsome traits. He must go home with another dog.

Black Labrador Retriever Dog Adoption

Barkingly, before I forget, a mostest generous donor who would love to see all senior dogs in their "Forever Homes!" in time to chase the Easter Bunny, has donated so the senior adoption fee is halved to $125! Paws, thank you, donor!

Woofs, Rudolph is a very happy guy who loves pawlaying with toys running around with his foster's dogs and, barkingly, eating. He enjoys car rides and walks too.

He walks pawsomely well on a twin leash with his foster's dog. He doesn't react to squirrels or cats.

Barkings, although he can be a bit mischievous at times, he is very well-behaved, sleeps through the night, and very rarely barks.  He responds to his name when called. He is a little shy when meeting new humans and needs a little time to warm up. Once he does, he's a love bug who loves being petted, giving doggie kisses, and will lay his head on his foster Mom's knee giving her the Lab loving look.

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
Paws, he has pawsitively impeccable house-manners. He doesn't need to be crated and will not touch anyone else's stuff so he can be left safely at home.

Rudolph doesn't ask much out of life. He would like a kind family, a soft bed, good food, a daily walk, and a dog buddy to teach him the ropes of being a dog in a new home.

Rudolph is recommended for mini-humans ages 10 and older.

To learn about adopting a Labrador Retriever from Lab Rescue, pawlease visit their Adoption Guide!

If you would like to meet Rudolph, and pawssibly adopt him, pawlease complete the Lab Rescue Dog Adoption Application

Adopting a dog and adding it to your human family can be a pawsitively pawsome experience. Woofs, however, some humans who love dogs are not able to adopt for many different reasons. If that's you, pawlease consider supporting Rudolph financially. Financial donations will help with his living expenses such as food, Veterinary, toys, and other items needed for appawpriate care. Interested? Pawlease donate here! Donations are tax-deductible as pawmitted by the Internal Revenue Service.

MEOWS! Is that photo not the cutest cat you've ever seen, well, besides me, that is? Lucky Ricky was brought by for you to meet and consider adopting by our friend "Cat Lady" from PetConnect Rescue.

Lucky Ricky has the desire of all cats, and dogs too, to find a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too! He is around 11-months-old, is good with other cats, dogs, and mini-humans.

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
Purringly, he is a fairly petite kitty who is very curious about the universe around him and playful! He loves wandy toys with feathers.

Paws, as a young kitty, he is respectful of the older resident cat in his foster home by giving him space but his playstyle can be a bit rough. Meows.

Meowinglys, Ricky is a confident kitty who enjoys greeting his foster family at the door. He got used to his new environment quite quickly too.

Lucky Ricky's dog-like tendencies helped him become great buddies with his foster parent's dog.

Purring, although he has not met any mini-humans yet, PetConnect Rescue believes he is suited for families with mini-humans of all ages.

Meows, he loves snuggling at the foot of his human's bed and has the most beautiful black silky coat!

Lucky Ricky is neutered and current on his vaccinations and preventatives!
