Prince William Turkey Trot, November 22, 2018

Turkey
(C) Prince William Turkey Trot

"Hey Noah, you turkey, are you going to go for a trot?

"What Samson? I'm not a turkey! I'm a handsome sweet pawsome Plott Hound/Black Labrador. But, besides that bit of truth, what are you caterwauling about?'

"I saw a sign at the Manassas Freedom Aquatic Center about a Turkey Trot and thought about you. This might be for you."

"Barks! No, the Turkey Trot is an annual 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk at the Manassas Freedom Aquatic and Aquatic Center celebrating Thanksgiving! Humans are invited to wear their best-themed gear for a costume contest- pilgrim, pie, turkey (See Noah- I thought so!), Native American, whatever! WOOF! When you finish the race, you'll receive an envelope with pawssibly a prize! The first 100 race finishers, can enjoy some delicious donuts from Duck Donuts! There will be prizes for best costumes and winners of the race in various age groups. Paws, sounds like a lot of fun."

"Won't it be awfully cold to be outside running around? Yes, I know humans do some crazy things but when it's that cold?"

"Barks! No worries there either Samson. The humans can warm up in the Manassas Freedom Aquatic and Fitness Center before and after the race with listening to music!"

"Meows, this sounds like a lot of fun! How can I get more information?

"By going to their website at Prince William Turkey Trot! No, I'm not going to trot. They don't allow dogs. Maybe you could go Samson and be the turkey. There's nothing about no cats! WOOF!"

MEOWS! Samson here my human friends! My friend "Miss Kim" at the Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) shared with me this week about two pawnderful cats named Flower and Thumper. These two darlings are looking for adopters or new foster parents by the end of November. Why? Pawingly, their current foster parent will be caring for her human mom beginning in December. Purr! There just isn't room for two cats too. Purrs, let me share with you about these two cuties!

Flower and Thumper are around 5-years-old, one female and one male. They are not declawed, are friendly with dogs, cats, and mini-humans! Due to radial hypoplasia, they are considered special needs cats! Purringly, but they live a normal life!
cat

Flower and Thumper are incredibly loving cats! The brother and sister pair have radial hypoplasia, a condition where they were born with abnormally short and twisted forelimbs. Purrs, they still live a normal cats life of using the litterbox, jumping up on the sofa or bed to snuggle with their humans- their favorite thing to do! They are pawsomely mobile too.

Please watch their YouTube video, Flower and Thumper!

If you have questions about Flower and Thumper, pawlease contact Kim!

Zachariah is around 9-months-old and one sweet fella! His foster mom just loves having him as a foster!

Zachariah has pawsome crate- and house- manners!

Zachariah is still getting used to the city so he can be a bit shy at first. Once he gets to know you, he's your buddy! WOOF!

I call it that because she calls it that but it stands for Advocates for Abused and Abandoned Pets (A3P)- which is a mouthful for a cat! MEOW!! A3P is a newly formed animal rescue! Miss Sherry brought by a handsome cat for you to meet! Sheldon!

Sheldon is approx 5 years old. HISS! It seems that his family moved and left him behind to defend for himself! HISS! Since he was an indoor cat, he was starving as he didn't know how to hunt. Poor guy, I wouldn't either- meow. Thankfully, a pawsomely grand good Samaritan human began feeding him and then brought him to Advocates for Abused and Abandoned Pets (A3P)!

Sheldon is one cool dude! Look at the photos of him! Curious too, I'd say. He is a sweet and loving fella too. When he went to foster care, after eating, he crawled onto his foster's moms lap and went to sleep! MEOW! PURR!

Sheldon gets along with other cat's he's met. Meowingly, he hasn't been introduced to dogs yet but A3P isn't sure how he would react. Meowingly, he has such a sweet mellow demeanor that nothing seems to faze him.

Meowingly, Sheldon's such a character too! He likes to ride upside sometimes in his carrier! MEOW!

Sheldon is ready to go home with loving humans and become their pawsome one-and-only-cat-that-is! MEOW! He is in good health, up-to-date on vaccinations, preventatives, is neutered, and microchipped.

Dog

WOOF! BARKS! My friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue was carried here by two pawsomely beautiful Black Labrador Retrievers, Chance and CT! A pawsome bonded pair who must be adopted together.

Chance and CT are looking for a"Forever Home" in a rural or suburban single-family house or a townhouse. They want a fenced yard too! WOOFS!

Paws, Chance and CT are very easy-going companions! They appreciate the finer things in life such as walks in the morning and evening. Chance loves a good 5-minute run around the block, a dog park or the backyard. Barkingly, they enjoy going for car rides, napping, and following their humans around the house! Kongs with peanut butter treats is a favorite. Chance enjoys keeping watch on critters, like squirrels and cats, around the home!
Dog

Barkingly, CT has a herding instinct and will have to be monitored when he's playing with other dogs so he doesn't try to round them up by nipping their rumps. Chance loves activity and excitement, but CT is more mellow, laid-back, and will stay near Chance or humans.  Chance doesn't like thunderstorms will CT doesn't seem to care! WOOF!

The pair aren't much on barking when humans come to the door though they like to go see who's there!

These two playful-pups are charming with their sunny dispositions. Paws, they are quiet when left alone too! They are house- and crate- trained, non-counter-surfing, and almost as adorable as me! But, since I'm not available for adoption, check out these two! WOOF! Chance and CT know some basic commands too.

Pawlease visit their YouTube video, Chance and CT!

Chance and CT are good with other dogs but not with cats. They are recommended for mini-humans ages 10 and older!

WOOF! If you would like to learn more about dog adoption, pawlease visit Lab Rescue's Dog Adoption Guide.

Pawsly, If you would like to meet Chance and CT or apply to adopt them, pawlease complete the Lab Rescue Dog Adoption Application.

MEOW! PUR-R-R-R-R! My pawsome friend "Cat Lady" from PetConnect Rescue weathered the weather to bring to pawsomely adorable kitties for you to meet- Traci!

Oh, my meows! She is a really pretty young lady! Purr! She's so adorable, and around my age, I almost barked like Noah does when he sees Katie the Rottweiler! Oops - sorry! Meows, this cat is glad Traci and her 2 kitties were rescued from a shelter in Maryland where space is limited and, HISS! HISS! tough choices have to be made daily. HISS!
cat

Traci is a low-key, friendly, did I tell you she very beautiful too? Uh, sorry, meow. She knows how to easily entertain herself by tossing toy mice in the air. Meowly, she appreciates human affection too.

Purrs, Traci enjoys the company of her kittens too- who could all be adopted together!

Traci is good with other cats and cat-friendly dogs! She would be a pawsomely great choice for the first-time cat owner!

Paws, if you would like to learn more about cat adoption, pawlease visit PetConnect Rescue's Cat Adoption Guide.

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League

Dog

Creative: Allen Pearson

Oh, my barks and woofs! My pawsome friend the "Great Dane Dame" of the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League weathered the storm to bring a pawsomely adorable bonded pair of Great Danes for you to meet! Joker and Lady! These two are to be adopted together! They are awesome together and Lady relies on Joker due to her eyesight! WOOFs! Barks.

Lady is around 4-years-old and a Mantle Great Dane! She is very skittish meeting new humans until her brother Joker greets them.

Paws, Lady comes with a few scars including missing a bit of one ear.  She has some health problems including cataracts which Mid-Atlantic Great Dane will take a look at soon. She misses seeing. She likes to chase her foster brother for a few steps when he's running around outside and then just cries. arf. She is looking for a buddy dog or a human to be around pretty much all the time to help her get around with confidence.

Barks and paws, Lady is a velcro Dane. She likes to be within touching distance of her human especially when they are moving. She loves going for walks with a harness. She loves having several beds to sleep on and is a barkingly huge fan of treats!
Dog

Lady will do best in a home with a human who is home most of the day and another confident dog. She has no idea how big she is so she would do best in a home without young mini-humans!

Joker is around 9-years-old and a Merle Great Dane in great shape. He has one goal in life! That is to be pet by a human all-the-time! WOOF! He will use his head to lift his human's arm to pet him.

The rest of his day is going for walks, chasing or protecting the home from squirrels! Barkingly, since he has a strong prey drive, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League recommends NO small dogs or cats in the home.

Barks, Joker is very social fella! He likes to meet humans and give them big leans! He greets dogs of all sizes well on his leash.

WOOFS! Joker loves his sister Lady! He likes to clean her ears, trying to get her to play, and doesn't like not knowing where she is! He will stop on walks and wait for her. He will follow her around the house.

Joker is fine with mini-humans while on a leash! Off-leash, he isn't too sure what to do with them. Barkingly, a home with mini-humans ages 12 and older would be best for him.

If you would like to meet Joker and Lady, learn about adopting a Great Dane, pawlease visit Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Adoption Procedures.

Bark!! Do you love dogs, but, for whatever reason, are not able to adopt? Please consider supporting Joker and Lady financially. Donations will assist with their care. Any extra funds will be used to assist other Great Danes at Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League. Interested, please donate HERE!

Noah and I watched it snow yesterday while Dad worked all day! My friend "Miss Kim" from Homeless Animals Rescue Team made it by this week with a friend for you to meet!

CatMeet Max! He is one cool dude. MEOW! It's a good thing he's an indoor cat because you wouldn't be able to find him in all that snow with his handsome white coat! Purrs! However, those sharp blue eyes would give him away!

Purrs, Max is around 10-years-old, is not declawed, has no known history around dogs, is friendly with other cats but will be best as your one-and-only-cat-that-is! He is friendly with mini-humans.

Max can be a little shy at first when meeting new humans and in new places! He warms up quickly and especially if you offer him chin rubs! He is affectionate, gentle and a sweetheart!

WOOF! MEOW! Noah and I want to paw a gazillion THANK YOU's to our pawsome US Armed Forces Veterans and their families! Barkingly, typically, November 11 is Veteran's Day. a day to remember and honor those who have done so much so we can have the freedoms we enjoy. Paws, a Presidential Proclamation designates November 2018 as National Veterans and Military Families Month. WOOF! BARKS!

Noah and I are pawsitively proud to bark and meow that we are grandnephews of an Air Force Veteran, granddog and grandcat of an Air Force Retiree, and great granddog and great grandcat of a World War II Navy Veteran. MEOW! BARK!

Barks, Samson and I are thankful for the many freedoms we have. We are thankful for the freedom to bark or meow as we pawlease, take our human for a walk or a long hike and even on a trip or two. WOOF! BARKS! MEOW!

Our humans are always saying how thankful they are to the US Armed Forces Veterans of today and years past. They are especially thankful for the freedom to worship God at the church of their choice, live their lives where and how they want to live, to say what they want and to read what they want! Woofs!

Barks and Meows, the next time you see a Veteran, tell them "Thank You!"

WOOF! Barks, my pawsome friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue doing her dance we call the "Lab Whirly Twirly!" WOOF! WOOF! She is surrounded by several pairs of Labrador Retrievers who are circling and dancing around her really fast because they are so happy that she and all the Lab Rescue volunteers work diligently to find them all "Forever Homes!" These pairs are bonded buddies who have either grown up together or connected up somewhere along their life's way and Lab Rescue believes it to be in the dogs best interest for them to be adopted together!

A pair that I would like to introduce to you is Chance and CJ! Chance is a female and CJ is a male Black Labrador Retriever. This pair is house- and crate- trained, and are not into counter-surfing. Chance likes to keep watch for any critters hanging out around the house and will do the same at the dog park to be sure it is safe for everyone! WOOF! CT runs behind his sister until boredom sets in or he gets distracted wanting attention from his human! WOOF!

Chance and CT have pawsome charming and sunny dispositions! The two are barkingly adorable too. This pair is looking for a "Forever Home" in a single-family or townhouse with a fence. At home, they love to nap and rest up for the next adventure.

WOOF! BARKS! Happy Friday! My friend the "Great Dane Dame" of the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League stopped by this week with a pawsome friend to meet you! Meet Chimaeralm or as affectionately know, Shy!

Shy is a 13-month-old Black Great Dane with natural ears! Woof! She is a "pocket" Dane! WOOF! Though she is still a puppy and growing, she will not get much larger than she already is. Shy isn't tall enough to counter-surf. Barkingly, she has puppy curiosity about the kitchen!
Dog

Shy has pawsome house manners, Barkingly, her adopter will need patience as she settles into her new home!  She is crate-trained too. Woof! She shouldn't be trusted to roam free in the house without human supervision. After all, she will get into stuff as puppies often do!

Shy is a Velcro Dane who pawsitively loves to be around her humans. If you will allow her, she will lay at your feet and cuddle with you all day! Barkingly, she's cautious when meeting new humans. She will do a quick nervous bark and go to hide behind or human or run to a corner. Paws, once she understands this new "thing" will not harm her, she will lose control of her "licker!" WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!

Shy loves playing with her foster brothers, a Great Dane and Boxer, and her sister, a Great Dane! She likes to play rough but isn't as rough as she sounds! There isn't any aggression!  She needs to learn to be a puppy and needs a confident dog to show her how to be the best dog she can be! She will do best in a home with a confident dog and humans who are home more than they are away!

Due to Shy's fear of new people and small places, she would not be a good candidate for apartment of condo living! She needs a fenced yard and pawlenty of exercise!

Shy has no known history with cats. She is good with larger dogs and mini-humans ages 5 and older.

Barkingly, if you would like to learn more about dog adoption, the procedure and process of adopting a Great Dane, pawlease visit Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Adoption Procedures.

Barks!! Do you love Great Danes, but, for whatever reason, are not able to adopt? Please consider supporting Shy financially. Donations will assist with her care. Any extra funds will be used to assist other Great Danes at Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League. Interested, please donate HERE!
