Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League

Great Dane
"Deuce"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
WOOF!! Last week, my human and I had a blast driving to Fredericksburg, VA to meet and photograph a pawsome Great Dane for the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League and his foster mom! We had so much fun running around the dog park and playing with toys!  Such a pawsomely cool dog!

"Deuce"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
Deuce, a handsome youthful fella, is 6-years-old going on 2!!  BARKS! He has lots of energy and loves to play with other dogs at his favorite dog park! His foster mom is constantly entertained by his funny quirks from carrying a stuff animal outside to do his "business" to putting her to bed every night.  A favorite game of his is "laser light" and will continue playing it until you can no longer hold up your arm!

An incredibly smart guy, Deuce learns commands pawsomely easily.

Enjoy going for walks?  Deuce will sit to have his leash put on before leaving for doggie daycare.  He walks pawsomely well on a gentle leader. He has gone to pet stores, busy downtown areas and on trail hikes with no problems. BARKS!  He doesn't bark at other dogs in public and will wait patiently while his human brags about his pawsomeness!!

Deuce can be a little slow to warm up to strangers but once he does, be prepared to play and give lots of affection!  WOOF!!! Deuce gets along well with other dogs and wouldn't mind having a playmate.

Do you have an ice maker in your refrigerator- it's a possible "Deuce" requirement as he will do almost anything to get "ICE CUBES" which is how his foster mom taught him new tricks!

Deuce is a home protector too! He will alert you to anyone at the door or outside which is an excellent trait to have for someone living along and families too. Barkingly, if you have many guests, some training to curb barking will be necessary.

Deuce's foster mom’s favorite part of the day is when they go to bed and cuddle. Deuce “asks” for petting and will actually move her arm so that she can pet him. She says "he has the cutest animated ears ever."

Due to his high energy level, Deuce will be best in a house with older mini-humans or adults. He gets along with cats too!

If you would be interested in learning more about dog adoption and applying to adopt "Deuce," please visit the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League's Adoption Procedures.  WOOF!! BARKS!

The Best Ways to Feed Your Dog Remotely

When it comes to the nutrition and health of their dogs, most dog owners don't take this nonchalantly. They have developed special bonds with their dogs, and they love and care for their dogs to feed them healthily. However, feeding your dog is no easy feat as your dog doesn't move with you everywhere you go. As a person with a very tight and busy schedule, it might be very difficult to follow the feeding schedule or feed your dog effectively as situations may arise when you need to be away from home for two or more days. If you are a dog owner and you might be away from home for some time, you need an effective method to feed your dog remotely. Most dog owners who travel a lot feed their dogs automatically and remotely using automated dog feeder. With this equipment, you can make sure that your dog gets fed at the appropriate time and you can keep track and control what your pet are eating, even when you are not at home.

In most civilized countries, using an automated dog feeder has become increasingly popular. Nowadays, it is possible to rationalize the feed of your dog when you're away with the aid of a device called ‘Pintofeed’. This device helps in supplying food to your dog when you're away after the device has been synchronized with your smartphone. With your phone, you can control the diet of your dog and feed your dog in the right proportion with the help of Pintofeed. It also notifies you and gives you a detailed and analytic description of the feed when your dog has been fed. This is just an example of automatic feeding. This and other systems is not as efficient as remote feeding, as the device doesn't replace that bond that the owner has with his/her pet. Remote pet feeding is not really easy. The owner frets over the amount of feed, the most comfortable collarbone, and other things. However, using an automated feeder still make feeding easy.

Free Feeding is also a common method of feeding dogs. They fill a bowl with surplus feed and leave it for their dog to consume without appropriation. This suits dry feed as it does not spoil like wet feeds. People with tight work schedule do not have to worry about getting home on time. There is enough feed to feed the dog for a day or two. In a situation where there are multiple pets, it isn't suitable as bullying may take place, keeping some dogs well fed while others deprived of feed.

Another dog feeding method is scheduled or proportional feeding. This applies to people with a fairly predictable schedule, portion controlled feeding suits this kind of dog owners. It makes your dog healthier as its foods are rationalized and the right proportion of feed in the right quantity. There are various methods for Scheduled feeding, feeds can be served to a dog in a bowl and taken away after a period of time to allow the dog to freely eat his ration. This method is very stressful as the owner has got to feed the dog plenty times in a day.

However, the best way to feed your dog remotely is through an automated dog feeder. If you are not sure on how to go about remote feeding, you should consult with your veterinary doctor to give you a suitable advice. You should get answers on several methods of feeding dogs and various tips to improve and sustain its good health.

Civil War Trust - Manassas National Battlefield Park - Park Day!

"Cannon at Manassas National Battlefield Park"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
My human had the pawsome oppawtunity to be raised in a historically rich area of Manassas, Virginia, where two battles of the Civil War happened and not far from Washington, D.C., home to many historical monuments.

As my human grew up, back in the day of the Ford Model T, his father and brother would visit the Manassas National Battlefield, Old Town Manassas, and several other historical sites. Dad became interested in the local history back in the day when he was a young sprat and it has re-ignited as an old guy!  WOOF!! Paw.

As his interest has grown, Dad and I have had some pawsome trips following trails throughout the Battlefield and Conway Robinson State Forest.  Dad likes to stop and read the historical markers and learn as much as he can. Since I cannot go inside the historical buildings, he looks around outside.  If Mom is with us, they take turns going inside.

I love walking the trails of the battlefield and learning about the history of our country and it can to be. I like the area as the trails are clean and well kept so it makes hiking easier for Dad and I- he doesn't have to worry about what I will find!  WOOF!!! I'll be sharing more of these trips as I can - WOOF!!

To help our friends at the Manassas National Battlefield Park with some maintenance, I want to bark about an activity coming up this weekend.  BARK!! Leashed dogs are welcome!  Humans with dogs should bring needed items for dog and consider the needed task of cleaning up the hiking trails.
