Friday's Friend! Senior Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

WOOF! BARK!! Here lately, more than a few times, my humans, the Veterinarian and someone else referred to me as a "senior" dog or that my food is a "senior" diet! Not sure I like these comments.... though I haven't growled or barked when I hear the word "senior" I wonder why they call me that!  I mean, I still get along fine, I still run fine, I still like to play fetch, I still take my human for long walks, I still like going for car rides, I still play with my squeaky toys, so why call me "senior?"  WOOF!!

My human must have caught my slight quandary of curiosity about the word so he says to me, "Basically Noah, it's about age- everyone ages and you reach a part of life where life where it signifies that- some have health issues as they age but not all... just depends on the person, or, er, dog!

Learning that sent me back out to chase a squirrel and a rabbit or two-

My friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue brought by several of her canine senior friends for you to meet!  She was so excited to introduce them to me, I am going to let her share with you too-

Black Labrador Retriever
"Dixie"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Meet Dixie!! She's a 12-year-old Black Labrador Retriever!  She is approved for mini-humans age 7 or older.  She is good with other dogs and cats.

A gentle and sweet girl, Dixie's life was turned upside down by the death of her human.  So now, she's looking for a "Forever Home" with humans for her to love!

Dixie will stay close and soak up all the attention she can possibly get while offering a wagging tail and lots of kisses!

The ideal home for Dixie will have few stairs and offer a calm environment and humans who will lavish her with love and attention!"

Black Labrador Retriever
"Tyson"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Noah, Tyson is a 9-year old Black Labrador Retriever who is good with other dogs! He loves attention from his humans, loves retrieving, swimming and going for walks!

Tyson has impeccably pawfect house manners and doesn't need to be crated. He sleeps through the night and takes treats gently.

Tyson's is looking for a "Forever Home" with adults-only household, as mini-humans make him uncomfortable!"

"Dottie"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Noah, this is Dottie!" BARK!! BARK! WOOF! She's got a most beautiful face Lab Lady! "Yes, she does Noah!  Dottie is a 10-year-old Black Labrador Retriever who is good with other dogs and cats.  She is approved for mini-humans 10 years old and older! She must go to a home with another dog!

Dottie's foster reports she is wonderful to foster. She is housetrained, enjoys walks, and walks well on leash.

She is super friendly, has a calm demeanor, and is very easy going. She loves to get scratches, especially on her belly!"

"Daisy"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Noah, Meet Daisy!  She is an 11-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever.  She is good with other dogs but prefers to be her human's one and only- dog that is! BARKS! Or, with another submissive dog!

Daisy is good with cats and is approved for mini-humans age 10 and older!

Daisy should not be crated and must go to a home with a fenced in yard! She wants a family who is not gone for long periods as she loves company!

Daisy sleeps on a dog bed in her foster's bedroom. She has great manners and likes to follow her humans around to see what they're doing.  She would be a great gardening partner for someone looking for a companion. She is a sweetheart!"

Black Labrador Retriever
"Bama"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
"And, last but not least, meet Bama is a sweet 12-year-old Black Labrador Retriever whose is good with other dogs and approved for mini-humans ages 10 and older!

Bama is house trained and crate trained. He loves going for walks and does wonderful on the leash. Bama has met a few doggy friends in the neighborhood and gets along well with the resident dog! He loves everyone he meets and is just such a sweet and pleasant pup to be around!"

These and other senior Labrador Retrievers are looking for humans to love and a "Forever Home!"

Chihuahua Adoption
"Leia"
(C) PetConnect Rescue

My pawsome buddy "Miss C" from PetConnect Rescue stopped by with a 5-year-old Chihuahua for you to meet!

Leia came all the way from Puerto Rico to find her "Forever Home!"

Leia is a pawsome loving and sweet girl who would love to spend her days curling up in her humans lap!

Leia has been great with dogs she's met and, though, while good with humans, and her quiet nature, she would do best in a home without young mini-humans.  She prefers a quiet home with a human home most, or a good part, of the day so she can spend her day cuddling up near or on her human.

Leia is house and crate trained with pawsome lady-like manners- so there's no need to crate her! BARKS!!!

Leia is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives.

First Annual Pet Anxiety Awareness Week (PAAW) Educating Owners about Fear, Anxiety and Stress in Animals

"Fluff Dog!"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
Weeklong event offers pet owners education, expert advice, resources, products, and services to help companion animals suffering from this serious but often misunderstood condition.

The week of June 25 through July 1 marks the launch of the first annual Pet Anxiety Awareness Week (PAAW), developed by Kristen Levine Pet Living to educate the pet-loving public about fear, anxiety and stress (FAS) in dogs and cats. Although veterinarians estimate that over 50 percent of dogs and cats in the U.S. suffer from FAS, the condition is often misunderstood and can result in desperate pet owners relinquishing their beloved pets.

Left untreated, dogs and cats with FAS can develop a number of behavioral problems such as destructiveness, inappropriate elimination, self-harm, excessive vocalization, and fear biting. Without access to education, resources and treatment options for FAS, these behaviors may lead owners to surrender their pets to a local shelter. In fact, the ASPCA’s National Rehoming Survey reports that behavior problems are the most common reason animals are relinquished, accounting for 47% of dogs and 42% of cats each year.

PAAW aims to help keep families together by providing resources, tools and expert advice on FAS from pet and veterinary experts like “America’s Vet” Dr. Marty Becker and renowned dog trainer Andrea Arden.

Even after the week has concluded, the Pet Anxiety Awareness page on Kristen Levine Pet Living will continue offering support with regular blog posts, advice from experts, product recommendations, and interviews with leading authorities throughout the year.

"Good Dog!"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
Ms. Levine, a well-known Pet Lifestyle Expert, was inspired to create Pet Anxiety Awareness Week by her experiences with her late dog, Buck. “He had a severe case of separation anxiety and thunderstorm phobia that affected his quality of life significantly,” she recalls. “Helping Buck cope with his condition taught me how important it is to identify the signs of FAS early and to get help from veterinary professionals before the condition advances to a stage where pharmaceutical solutions are the only option. I want other pet parents to learn from our experience.”

Pet Anxiety Week is sponsored by Calmz Anxiety Relief System by Petmate. Calmz is an all-natural, drug-free solution to canine anxiety, fear and stress. The wearable therapeutic device, cradled in a Comfort Fit Vest that fits snuggly over acupressure points, features NeuroSync Technology® that emits proprietary low frequency tones, classical music and delivers a mild vibration to relieve anxiety in dogs. The device has been clinically tested by leading veterinarians and veterinary behaviorists across the country and 91% recommend the Calmz system for their patients.

“With more than 75 million dogs in America suffering from anxiety at some point in their lives, we are especially motivated to raise awareness of the issue and the options to treat it,” says Chris Wilson, Petmate’s executive vice president of marketing and product development. “We are proud to sponsor Pet Anxiety Awareness Week and the opportunity it offers to provide innovative solutions to the anxiety issues that dogs and their owners have always struggled with – one that is so vitally intrinsic to the health and happiness of America’s beloved dog families.”

Support for Pet Anxiety Week is also provided by pet and veterinary industry partners, Fear Free Pets and Vet Vine.

Thank You Dr. Medici, My Beloved Veterinarian!

"Mom and Me!"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved

As we grow older, into each life must come a little visit to the Veterinarian. In my short lifetime, I've had 3 Veterinarians, most because my humans had moved and wanted someone close to the house.

"Dr. Medici and a Vet Tech"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
My first was Dr. Steven Velling. DVM, of Ashburn Village Animal Hospital in Ashburn, VA. He is a very young guy, just out of school or at least that's the way he looked- he was a great Veterinarian. The next Veterinarian was Dr. Deidre DuBissette, DVM of Franklin Farm Veterinary Clinic, who is an pawsomely talented lady. Today, it's Dr. C. Ululani Medici, DVM of Ohana Veterinary Care another pawesome lady with pawcellent skills. I have been blessed with the most pawsome of Veterinarians!

An aspect of each of these Veterinarians and their practices is they treat me like a real person instead of some critter off the street- and they would love them too!  Dr. Medici loves to explain what she's doing and what she's finding to my human as she goes along.  As a Service Dog, she gives me an exra-going over too- which I wish I'd known when I applied for the job. WOOF!!

Through all the vaccinations, the pills, the prods, the nods, the looks, the tugs on my legs, touching my tail and another place you have no business touching, the pushing of my chest, the sticking that thing where nothing should ever be stuck by anyone, the looking in my ear with that flicky thing, and why you enjoy shining a really bright light in my eyes- all of you do it- I'll never understand!  Barkingly, you are all GREAT!

But, thanks.  Thanks for being you and for all your years of study and doing without so you can help all the critters along life's way that you do.  So many humans, including my own, come to depend on you to help them through crisis's that we go through in this life!  Thank you for all the efforts to keep me healthy so I can keep my humans healthy and happy!

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

My friend "Lab Lady" has had her hands full taking care of many dogs in her care.  Barkingly, I think, and know, they are doing more for her than she knows.  After all, we dogs are so barkingly pawsome and make the lives of humans so much better!

Since I had horrid internet problems last week, "Lab Lady" brought by ALL her friends for last week and this week for you to meet!  BARK!!!

Meet Daisy!

"Daisy"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
Daisy is a pawsome 11-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever looking for a "Forever Home" in a rural or surburan single-family home with a physical fence.  She will do best as your one and only!! WOOF!!

Daisy is a fun girl with a lot of spunk, watch her play on Daisy!

"Daisy"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
Daisy enjoys moments of playing with a ball and playing fetch. She will pick the ball up and bring it to your feet! She likes sleeping on her dog bed in her foster's bedroom.

Daisy listens well and will stay until she gets released. She loves to follow her human around to see what they are doing and just hanging out. She would be a pawsome gardening partner or a companion for a human needing attention. WOOF!! We dogs are great at that!

A pawsome sweetheart who will be a barkingly grand addition to a human family.

Daisy is good with cats and the dogs she's met. She is recommended for mini-humans ages 10 and older.

"Bob"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
Meet my friend Bob!  A handsome young fella, who is a 4-year-old Black Labrador Retriever! He is looking for a "Forever Home" in a single-family house located in a rural or suburban setting. He is a true country boy as he likes the quiet and limited traffic and no large groups of humans. He must have a physical fence, barkingly, not a chain link one as he will climb it to chase critters!

BARKS! He cannot go to a home with cats, rabbits or any other small critters as he loves them wayyyyyy to much! WOOF!

Bob is a low-key guy who has pawcellent house manners.  He is friendly but not clingy. When he hangs out he loves to show off his pawsome crossed legs pose.

He does well on his own during the work day but he loves and is glad to see you when you get home.  He likes watching critters out the back window!

Bob enjoys going for a walk, He prances and dances when you take out his leash and harness- such a pawsome fella! Barking, he adores chasing critters a bit too much.

He sleeps soundly through the night and is a happy to snuggle too.  He enjoys belly-rubs too!

Bob is a great companion indoors too.  He likes to follow his humans around and know where they are!

Bob knows some basic commands-  He knows some commands, too. He enjoys showing off a few tricks too!

Sometimes, Bob is a little hesitant in new settings like a garage door opener or at the Veterinarians office- but he's good and seems to learn quickly.

Bob is good with the dogs he's met and is recommended for mini-humans age 10 or older.  Absolutely NO CATS or small pets!

Now, I have always said, and it is so true, 2 dogs are better than one- meet Max and Morris- a bonded pair who are looking for a "Forever Home" together! The two have been together all of their lives!

"Max and Morris"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
Max and Morris are a pair of pawsome young Chocolate Labrador Retrievers looking for a "Forever Home" in a rural or suburban single-family home with a physical fence required. They are not used to the noises of the city life like traffic and groups of humans!

The pair loves to be outdoors playing, fetching and retrieving, running, and swimming in ponds. The guys are smart and need time and attention to become even more pawsome dogs than they are already! The two seem to have a prey drive.

Max and Morris like to be pet, enjoy belly rubs and going for walks on one of those "coupler" leashes!  BARKS!!!

Max and Morris are NOT reccommended for homes with cats or other small pets.  They get along with the cats they've met. They are approved for mini-humans ages 10 and older.

Interested in applying to adopt Daisy, Bob or Max and Morris, please complete the Lab Rescue Dog Adoption Application

Bark that Noah sent you!
