Fireworks and Missing Dogs!

"Fireworks!"

Barkingly, every year around this time many of my friends go missing. At first, I thought it was one of those weird alien things where they went off into space somewhere or something strange like that as some of them never returned to their humans! WOOF!! WOOF!! BARK. Well, this may be a bit of an exaggeration as I don’t know all the dogs who go missing every year.

Did you know that the time period around the 4th of July and its celebrations is when more dogs go missing than any other time of the year? BARKS! Fireworks and flashing lights are not your dog's best friend- not even a close distant cousin!

Remember to your dog, the noises and light flashes of fireworks are unlike other loud noises like thunderstorms because they are closer to the ground, louder, brighter, and have burning smells. Barkingly, thunderstorms come on gradually with related signs, fireworks do not. Since dogs experience the world through the nose, eyes, and ears, fireworks can be a pawsitively overwhelming time for them! WOOF!! These frighten dogs causing them to run and hide.

A bark or two of preparation will help keep your dog safe, sound, and happy! Barks, my humans plan to be home with me on the 4th making sure I have pawlenty of treats, snacks, and water. We’ll watch music concerts or TV shows which will not have any loud booming noises from 4th celebrations. Sometimes, I curl up in my crate not far from my humans. If they can’t be home, and they cannot take me with them, they arrange for my uncle Ed or his pawsomely beautiful wife to sit with me! Barkingly, a Doggie Day Care could be an option for your dog too. If you have to make arrangements unfamiliar to your dog, take him there a few days ahead.

My human will let me out in the backyard and take me for walks earlier than normal on the 4th. Sometimes, the loud noises of firecrackers and fireworks will make dogs jump fences or take off running so to be prepared, he watches over me. So pawsome to have a human who loves me!

Barkingly, putting a comfortable, tight-fitting T-Shirt on your dog is a pawsome way to help them feel secure. Paws, you can buy a Thundershirt which has proven to be a pawcellent method for helping dogs relax.

If your dog seems to have a barkingly rough time with the fireworks, paw with his Veterinarian for solutions. A Veterinarian can offer sedation methods and ideas which would help the dog relax. These methods should be checked out ahead of time so you’ll both be prepared and there will be no surprises.

Barkingly, if you expose your dog to these noises in a positive manner at an early age, like 3 weeks to 3 months, you may be able to de-sensitize them. I recommend asking a dog trainer for ideas to assist with this.

BARK! The most impawtant thing you can do for your dog is to stay relaxed! Don’t fuss with your dog during fireworks as it just reassures them it’s a time to be afraid or apprehensive. Accept the situation and do your best to make your dog happy and comfortable.

Woofs, I hope you have a pawsome July 4th celebration. Barkingly, and that your pets stay safe.

WOOFS! WOOFS! Happy Friday friends! My pawsome friends at Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) who did such a pawsome job rescuing me so I could have a pawsome human family brought by this handsome fella for you to consider adopting! Meet Benny Boy!

Benny is around 9-months-old, a Terrier mix, is friendly with other dogs but not with cats! Arf,  he prefers mini-humans 12-years-old and older, pawlease!

Benny is one spunky dude! He wants an active family that will take him on adventures allowing him to explore as he is very curious!

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
Barkingly, he is crate- and house-trained! When he wants to chill, or need to work, he'll hang out in his crate with his pawsome blankie.

Woofs, while he isn't shy, he is still a bit uncertain of new things in life so he will need a confident human to help him realize life is amazing! Paws, maybe another dog would help too. It's pawssible he didn't get out much before coming to the rescue!

He is quite an excited jumper so he is not recommended to a home with small mini-humans as he could knock them down. Woofs, his foster mom is 5'5" and can jump in her face very easily.

Barkingly, he does well with and is good at learning new things from the dog pack he is living with!

Benny is ready to find a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too!

Woofs, do you have questions about Benny? Pawlease contact Meg.

WOOFS! Happy Friday! Today, Noah and I are celebrating Samson's "Gotcha Day!" Pawlease visit his post, from yesterday, "Happy Gotcha Day!" and celebrate with us! Leave him a special note in the comments.

My pawsome friends at Operation Paws for Homes brought by an adorable-looking fella named Electric Eel who is looking for his "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too! Woofs.

Barkingly, Electric Eel is guessed to be around 4-years-old and a French Bulldog mix. He is a sweet, happy, and friendly fella who weighs around 23 lbs.! He is pawsomely adorable and loves hugs and kisses. He will happily jump into your lap for snuggling!

Electric Eel has lots of energy and loves to play. He likes toys, fetch with a ball, and tug-of-war!

Electric Eel is named after the electric eel, a knifefish that gets its name from the enormous electrical charge it can generate to stun prey and dissuade predators. Their bodies contain electric organs with about 6,000 specialized cells called electrolytes that store power like tiny batteries.

He is up-to-date with vaccinations and preventatives. He has been neutered.

Happy Gotcha Day Samson!

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!

Dear Sweet Samson,

Today, we celebrate your "Gotcha Day!" Yes, we are doing it one day early because tomorrow is our weekly post, "Friday's Friend!" and I thought you'd appreciate not bumping that post but doing it one day early!

Four years ago, on Father's Day, I became the father of a 3-year-old male Maine Coon cat. After visiting you in Maryland and making an application to the rescue, you came into our lives on that beautiful summer Sunday afternoon.

You were so scared when you arrived, I was too, but I understood your situation and let you be. I was scared because cats in my past many years ago caused me to be afraid of all cats. Yes, we have had two cats before you and they helped me to get past my fears too. However, you have gotten your way into my heart further than most cats.

I was surprised it took you 17 months to realize I'm a good guy and you can hang out with me. Though, I can't blame you as the only man in your previous life who wasn't very nice to you. I will never forget the day you were on my office table, stood up, and walked my way. You wanted to headbutt me and later you stretched out so I would pick you up. I was so surprised but loved every single second of it.

Over time, you have become one of my bestest buds! I look forward to our cuddling at the end of a long day and each morning. Your cat therapy of purring, twilling, and meowing has been a huge blessing in helping with my health issues.

Happy Gotcha Day Samson! I am so thankful Mom and I are the ones who "GOTCHA!"

Celebration of Flag Day

"American Flag on a Wooden Building in Fair Grove, Missouri"

"Woofs! Today is Flag Day!"

"Meows! What is Flag Day? I see it on my calendar but have never pawsued to pay attention to what it's all about."

"Woof, I didn't even know it was today or any other day for that matter!"

"Woofs! Samson and Abby, today is Flag Day which is in honor or celebration of the date, June 14, when the United States first national flag was adopted in 1777.

The flag went through several designs over the years to be the one you see flying or waving in the wind throughout the United States of America."

"Meows! I'll celebrate the day by helping Dad hang a flag outside!"

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!

ABBY! Happy Birthday to our youngest family member! You joined our family at 5-months-old and now you are two! Where did the time go?!

It seemed like we would be chasing you around the house for the rest of our lives retrieving stuff from your mouth like socks, shoes, shirts, and various other items that we have no idea where you found those things. You have fulfilled our expectations for a Labrador puppy!

We are so happy to have found you at the Homeless Animals Rescue Team and were able to adopt you. You have brought a lot of vibrant energy, laughs, and joy into our home!

Do you know what I am most excited about? Our adventures together are just beginning. We have an enormous universe to explore together.

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue

Yellow Labrador Retriever Dog Adoption

Creative: from The Dog's Paw!

WOOF! Woof! Happy Friday! My friend "Lab Lady" brought by a sweet girl, Lucy, who is looking for a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too, for you to consider adopting!

Lucy is a 10-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever looking for her "Forever Home!" in a rural or suburban single-family home with a physical or underground fence. Barkingly, she wants to be your one-and-only-dog-this-is!

Yellow Labrador Retriever Dog Adoption

Creative: from The Dog's Paw!
Barksters, Lucy is a pawsomely great dog and will make a wonderful companion to a family of any age. Paws, she is quiet and calm. She loves to supawvise, nap wherever you are working.

Woofs, she is not bothered by any noises, cars, thunder, lawnmowers, etc.

Lucy sleeps quietly in her crate around 10 p.m. and wakes up at 6:15 a.m. with one bark to let you know she needs to go out!

Barkingly, she eats her food happily but is disappointed to find it is only dog food. It seems she may be very familiar with human food preferring pizza in her dish!

Lucy gets along with other dogs but is fine with being your one-and-only-dog-that-is! She is slowly becoming more independent in the house but still prefers to be by her foster mom's side 24/7! She wants to be with you and to be loved on!

Yellow Labrador Retriever Dog Adoption

Creative: from The Dog's Paw!
Paws, she has a slower pace of life with lots of napping but she is just so sweet! Lucy likes to live in the moment by still running Zoomies, playing fetch, going for walks, and doing her pawrt in household chores supawvising. She is pawfect for a family who wants a companion but not the chaos of training a younger dog!

Lucy doesn't like sharing her inside space with another dog. She doesn't like being left out of her humans activities nor does she like being crated during the day. She always wants to be by your side.

Sweet Lucy has made a few YouTube videos to help her get adopted:

Morning Zoomies

Her Fitness Video

Being Her Best Self:

Playing with her tennis ball

Lucy knows "sit" and "come" commands. She pulls a little on leash walking when she first starts out.

Lucy is recommended for mini-humans ages 10 and older. She has no cat history and is good with other dogs.

Woofs, to learn about adopting a dog with Lab Rescue, pawlease visit their Adoption Guide.

Barkingly, if you would like to meet Lucy, or pawssibly adopt her, pawlease complete the Lab Rescue Dog Adoption Application

Woofinglys, do you pawsitively love dog but are unable to adopt? Paws, how about supporting Lucy financially? Donations will assist with her care. Any extra funds will be used to assist other dogs at Lab Rescue. Interested, pawlease donate HERE! Donations are tax-deductible as permitted by the Internal Revenue Service.

Meows! Happy Friday! I am happy to be back writing about my friends who need "Forever Homes!" with humans to love who will love them too. Although, I have to paw that I wish all my cat, and dog, buddies had homes and I didn't have to do this. HISS! There are millions of pets without homes so I enjoy doing my pawrt to help them. Meows.

My pawsome friend "Cat Lady" from PetConnect Rescue brought by a handsome fella named Percy whose looking to be adopted! He is around 1-years-old, good with other cats and with dogs. He prefers an adult-only home and another cat there too.

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
Percy has got to have a certificate in humor! He is a pawsitively amazing guy with world-class comedian skills!

Meowsly, he has a beautiful orange coat who is the bestest friend to everyone who needs some lovin's, a laugh, or a hug. He is full of pawsonality which ranges from sassy, humor, kindness, tranquility, and pawlayfulness.

Purrs, Percy can be timid when if comes to new guests. The unpredictable actions of mini-humans may alarm him so he prefers an adult-only home but a home with mini-humans ages 12 and older is good too.

Percy is a chill fella who finds it hilariously comfortable to lay down with both his back legs fully extended.

Percy is pawsitively ready to find his "Forever Home!"

Meows, to learn about adopting a cat from PetConnect Rescue, pawlease visit their Adoption Guide.
