"WOOF! You know how we pawsomely grand dogs like to hang out with our humans wherever they go, whenever they go, and sometimes however they go?! Still not too sure about airplanes!

That would describe Noah and me, Abby! Noah has been hanging out with Dad forever taking pawrt in his exploring adventures. Now, me, Abby, has started going pawlaces with him too.

An interesting adventure of ours is going railfanning. We have decided to start sharing our videos, pawssibly photography, on a YouTube channel. You can find our channel at YouTube/@therailfanningdog. Pawlease comment, like, follow, subscribe, and share our channel."

"Barks, did I tell you that I rode a passenger train with Mom and Dad?!"

"No Noah, you didn't."

"Barks, as a service dog, Dad and I, Mom too, went to the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. I was there to help Dad with the rough flooring, terrain, and the like of the museum and the pawsome outdoor areas. Paws, we found an oppawtunity to ride a passenger train from the museum, out a good distance, and back. At furst, I was a bit concerned as I'd never been on a train but Dad and Mom helped me relax and so did all the nice humans walking by my seat and smiling."

"Woofs! Cool Noah! I'd like to do that!"

"Meows, I would go along too, but, all of that is beneath the dignity of a cat, certainly mine! HISS! HISS!"

"Woofs! Pawlease follow our videos of railfanning adventures at YouTube - @therailfanningdog. Our photography at Flickr.com, Instagram/allen_pearson_photography, Facebook/AllenPearsonPhotography, and at our blog, The Railfanning Dog."

"And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.

And suddenly there was
with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God, and saying,

Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men."

- Luke 2:12-14

WOOF! MEOWS! Barks! We pray that you have a very blessed Christmas Day with your family and friends!

'Twas the Night Before Christmas, Barks and Meows...

Photo by Kelly Sikkema on Unsplash
"Christmas"

Woofs, t’was the night before Christmas, and throughout the neighborhood, the quiet of the blessed evening is beginning to fall. The humans have gone to attend their various Christmas Eve church services while the critters of the land quietly scurry behind to start their festive preparations for the glorious day.

Abby, Samson, and I love our neighborhood and the land where we have met new friends and their humans. We have met more than a few wild animal friends living amongst us throughout these wooded acres.

Suddenly, upon the rooftop, there arose such clatter, we grabbed our winter coats and rushed outside to take a gander at what is the matter. We look up to find a scurry of squirrels and small critters pulling and tugging and tying Christmas lights around the rooftop, moving quickly, getting the job done as there are more houses to decorate in these acres called home.

Barking, yelping, jumping, and running about, our new dog friends, Max, Carly, Ruby, Gus, and Buddy, join us bringing presents to the doorsteps of all the homes. They woof, they paw, they smile as they ready for the day at hand.

Paws, as we turn to go back inside, we see a white glistening from the west it comes, it gets brighter as we look, and something to behold having not seen this before. As we look, the mountains across the way have a fresh coating of new winter snow. The mountains almost seem to be smiling at us as we stare and look at their beauty.

GROWL! I hear from Abby with barks and a few more. She loves barking at all that is new to her. Lately, it’s everything. As I turn, I see it standing there, black and powerful-looking staring at us. It isn’t afraid, nor does it want to harm us. It must be the blessing of Christmas Eve as the large animal walks toward us. We don’t want to run inside or turn away as the large black bear wants to celebrate too. For he decorated his cave and the land around it with colorful lights to his cub’s delight. We find Mama bear preparing her fish and insect porridge for not only her family but for the rest of us as we decorate for this Holy Day.

As we walk the lane, it’s snowing again, creating a beautiful wintry scene. Looks like a white Christmas. We will run and play, throw snowballs, and kick some too, at our humans getting them to play. The hill in the backyard will become a grand pawlace to go sledding and skiing with the animals and mini-humans.

We begin dancing and celebrating the pawlans that have been made and the decorations finished. We may have disturbed our pawnderful friends Buck and Doe, the many dear deer roaming around. They slowly appear from their habitat. For they are celebrating the season too, their antlers covered with green brush and red berries, even a few lights. They stand watching our small pawty, soon joining us.

Our friends, the Turkeys, young and old, stay in their corner of the acres. They hope not to be seen or found wandering this time of year. They want to be pawrt of our celebration, but not the humans' Christmas Day dinner!

The beautiful birds join in the fun and decorating. The cardinals and bluebirds decorate the trees with their stunning colors, while the others bring berries, branches, and pine cones with garlands of greens to give the trees a final touch.

When the humans return home, they see the acres where we live peacefully together. Every home, every tree, and anything that could be decorated has been by the animals enjoying themselves. As the night becomes even quieter, the humans and animals alike gather together and look toward the beauty of the snow falling with the mountains in the background. As the animals slowly join in, the humans begin to sing, “Silent Night… holy night….” Another quiet hush as the singing diminishes, a human shares:

“For God loved the world so much
that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him may
not die but have eternal life
 - John 3:16.”

May your Christmas and holidays
be full of joy and happiness!

Barkingly, my friend "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue brought by a beautiful nearly 2-year-old Yellow Labrador Retriever named Summer who is looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too. She is looking for a single-family home or a townhouse in a rural or suburban location with a fence! Woofs.

Summer loves pawlaying with her doggie friends and has made improvement walking on a leash. She is incredibly mellow for her age. If you enjoy hiking for miles, she will be happy to go along with you. Paws, if  you enjoy relaxing on the couch watching TV, she'll be right there with you!

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
Barks, she is smart, a fast learner, patient, and focuses on the task at hand, woofs, especially when treats are involved!

Paws, she has never chewed on anything in her foster home other than Nylabones. She pawsitively loves those!
Woofingly, Summer was born with a defective urinary tract system. Paws, she has to wear diapers inside the house. It doesn't affect her daily life and she knows the routine. If you can look past that, you would be looking at a pawratically pawfect Labrador Retriever! She has the bestest pawsonality, is the bestest kisser, and the sweetest girl!

Woofs, Summer's foster parents have never had to crate her. She sleeps on a dog bed or on the couch!

Pawings, to help with her adoption, Summer has made a few videos-

Summer has gotten along with dogs of all sizes she has met while living with her foster mom. Woofs, she is good with mini-humans ages 10 and older. She has an unknown history with cats.

Happy Winter- Barks! Meows?

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!

Woofs! Meows! Barks! Well, it's the first day of Dad's least favorite season... winter. He doesn't enjoy the cold, ice, snow, or freezing rain typical of the season. It means less outdoor time and more time inside listening to music, reading, and watching those old black-and-white television shows. It's fun for a while, but, he is usually bored by the time Spring arrives.

Barkingly, it is impawtant the humans, especially Dad, don't hibernate for the entire season. If he did, he'll get fat and lazy, and it'll be hard for him to move by the time arrives in three months.

Meows, I will help Dad hibernate as much as he wants! Paws, it's up to you, Noah and Abby, to exercise him. Take him for those long walks in the neighborhood or better yet... go explore one of those parks that you didn't take the time to enjoy because he was so busy with all the spring and summer chores!

Barkingly, a recent peak at the weather forecast, I learned we may get some snow or ice tomorrow! That'll be fun! I hope we get snow because I love chasing snowballs! Woofs!

Happy Winter! We have you enjoy all the fun the colder weather season can bring!

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
Sweet Gigi is around 7-1/2-months-old. She is good with cats, dogs, and older mini-humans. She requires another cat in the home!

Purrs, though she is a bit cautious when meeting adult cats, dogs, and small mini-humans, she warms up quickly.

Meowingly, she is affectionate and purrs endlessly when settling into her human's lap. She enjoys cuddling with her cat brother too!

Gigi is up-to-date on vaccinations and litter box trained. Purrs, she can be your one-and-only-forever-cat-that-is or would love to be adopted with her brother R2D2!!

A Dog's Winter Coat!

(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!
"Noah in His Winter Coat"
(C) 2022, from The Dog's Paw!

Some humans tell my human that I am spoiled and spoiled rotten. Well, I’m not rotten for sure and I love reading my human’s mind as he always thinks “And, your point?” WOOF!!!

It’s not spoiling when your human provides you the best food for breakfast and dinner nor is it spoiling me to have the best treats or the best toys or the best dog collar and leash or the best dog beds for I am DOG. And it is impawtant to remember the hard work I do protecting the family. Daily. WOOFs!!

Nor, I guess, is it spoiling me when my human makes me wear a red plaid flannel winter coat every winter. Barkingly, he does it only when the temperatures drop to the 20s or he’s cold. Like his mom used to say, “put on a jacket, I’m cold!” WOOF! WOOF!!

It all started when I first moved to Virginia ten years ago. It was a dark and snowy night, er, day, and I’d never seen snowflakes before. It was odd to see all this white stuff falling from the sky. The next day, it was whiter than white everywhere I looked.

The morning after the storm, my human went outside so dressed up in a winter coat, gloves, scarf, and hat, I didn’t recognize him! WOOF!!!! I stayed back to protect mom. Later, I went out to supervise his shoveling of what would be the first of many storms that season. I quickly learned to love snow- it’s fun to eat, except my human stops me when we’re not on his property- fun to chase the snowflakes, snowballs, roll around in the snow, and the like.

The only problem is, it was cold. Much colder than I had ever felt before. As Mom and Dad saw me shivering, they learned my Plott Hound coat isn’t quite enough for the extremely frigid temperatures. After many ghastly atrocious coats - unbelievable, my humans finally found one at a local specialty pet shop that fit my dignified self! WOOF!!

Pay attention to how your dog reacts to the cold. He might need a winter coat too! WOOF!

Pawlease forgive the lack of graphics for this post. The software we use for our graphics quit allowing us to download our work!

WOOFS! It's FRIDAY! BARK! BARK! BARK! Happy day it is! My pawsome friend "Lab Lady" at Lab Rescue brought by a handsome 6-year-old Chocolate Labrador Retriever named Willy. He is looking for his "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too. He needs a rural or suburban townhouse or single-family home with a physical fence.

Chocolate Labrador Retriever Adoption
"Willy"
(C) 2022, Lab Rescue
Willy is a pawsome house guest. He can be left alone in the house.

Barkingly, he likes to sleep downstairs on his dog bed, on a couch, or in his crate. By day, he enjoys lying in the sunshine on the deck.

Willy likes going for walks. He especially enjoys a leisurely stroll watching cars or trucks as they pass by. Paws, watch him walk a leash with his harness like a good, calm fella, Willy Walking

He is learning new commands every day, "sit," "wait," and "down." He is very food motivated so teaching him should is fairly easy. He "waits" for his food bowl, sitting and drooling the whole time.  Barkingly, he loves attention and will set his head on your lap to remind you of the impawtance of petting him or rubbing his ears! Woofs! He is happiest getting lovin's!

Paws, Willy's foster humans haven't heard him bark since they began fostering three weeks ago!

He loves attention and will set his head on your lap and remind you to keep petting or rubbing his ears. He lives for his meals and will sit and wait for a command to begin eating.

To learn about adopting a Labrador Retriever from Lab Rescue pawlease visit their Adoption Guide.

Barkinglys, to meet Willy, or to pawssibly adopt him, pawlease complete the Lab Rescue Dog Adoption Application

Woofs, do you pawsitively love Labrador Retrievers but are not able to adopt? How about considering sponsoring Willy? Purringly, LeClerc is a one-eyed beauty who is around 5-months-old, is good with cats, dogs, and mini-humans alike! She is an adorable purr machine with a super soft coat and white paws! She looks like she's wearing little white mittens and socks.

LeClerc is an absolute sweetheart who will melt your heart the moment you meet her! She loves attention and will come running to greet you!

Cat Adoption

Creative: from The Dog's Paw!
Purrs, she is extremely playful so any other pets in the home will need to be willing to play too! Meows. She loves to mix it up with her fellow foster cats!

Paws, LeClerc's eye was removed due to an infection she sustained in her first few weeks of life. Meowingly, after numerous attempts to clear the infection, the Veterinarian determined that the eye could not be saved and removal was for the best. Paws, most likely she never had vision in the eye as she doesn't seem to notice that it is gone! The Veterinarian does not think she will need any additional care for the eye going forward.

LeClerc is fully vaccinated, spayed, and negative for FelV/FIV.
