Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue

Yellow Labrador Retriever Adoption

Woofs! Happy Friday, my friends! Happy Weekend too- If you are traveling to be with family and friends or if you celebrating the fourth locally with friends, I paw that you have a pawsomely grand time.
Yellow Labrador Retriever Adoption

My friend "Lab Lady" at Lab Rescue brought by a beautiful sweetheart named Mickey who is looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too! Barks.

Mickey is looking for her "Forever Home!" in a rural or suburban single-family home with a physical fence. She will need to be the only dog in the home. Barkingly, she will have a training addendum attached to her adoption. A generous donor, who wants to see every Labrador Retriever find their own home, has donated so the adoption fee for this pup is $200.

Mickey is a beautiful blonde girl who is coming into her own and is an absolute delight to have around. Once she has establishes a relationship with each new human she meets, she is a fun-loving sweetheart! She will need slow and calm introductions to new humans she gets to meet. She will need an adopter willing to work with her meeting humans.

Paws, she loves the quiet life but is doing well with being introduced to louder traffic and heavier foot-traffic hiking trails.

Mickey has great house manners. She does not chew things that are not food. Woofs, she doesn't beg for food at the table either. Nor does she need to be crated. She will happily go into one should it be needed.

If you want to sleep in, she will too!

Barkingly, Mickey is a calm and quiet girl most of the time.

She loves going for car rides, walks well on a leash and loves to sunbathe in the yard. Paws, she will roll over her belly rubs every chance she gets!

Mickey made a few videos to help get herself adopted:

National Pet Preparedness Month

WOOF! After reading a local news story starting with more than usual local tornado watches and warnings, residents should prepare for their pets. Barkingly, the Hurricane Season began June 1, and storm preparation is impawtant! BARKS!

WOOF! To prepare, humans should be aware of the natural and man-made disasters which could happen in your area. Paws, each disaster can require different preparation. Woofs, typically, our area has had a few tornadoes, and hurricanes over the years. My humans have taken me to the basement for tornado warnings. A derecho and a hurricane came through several years ago, which required us to put our plans into action. We were prepared as we’d made plans before the storm ever happened.

Barks, when my human first adopted me, he taught me to obey his voice commands which he sometimes uses in an emergency situation. These commands, “LET’S GO NOAH! GO!” and “LET’S GO ABBY! GO!”  followed by showing me to the basement, was a drill we repeatedly practiced until he was satisfied I had it in my skills. This has proved to be beneficial during “Tornado Warnings.”

Paws, my human maintains a pawlastic box in his studio with needed items for me, such as a leash, poop bags, some treats, flashlights, and an umbrella. Near the doors to the house, he has pawlaced leashes in strategic locations in case we have to leave with no time to grab stuff. A basket of large towels are kept close by too. He makes certain when the items are used, they are returned as they are useful in an emergency.

Keep extra supplies, including bottled water, extra leashes and collars, bowls, poop bags, and at least a two weeks supply of pet food and bottled water, on hand! Obtain a pet first aid kit too. WOOF! Have a properly sized pet carrier or crate for each pet. Store these where you can grab them and go.  Paws, if you have a cat, keep cat litter and a pan too. BARKS! Keep a few current photos of your pets handy in case they are needed.

Meows, pawlanning for cat safety can be challenging. Paws, Samson will tell you, he only does what he wants to do when he wants to do it and not a second earlier, and then it might require a nap before he acts on it. woof. Keep your cat's crate in a handy location where you know where to find it in an emergency. If your cat has a collar with an ID tag, make sure it is on securely. Paws, it will be handy for you to know where your cat likes to hide in your home. If you have to look for it, you'll have a good idea of where to start!

Barks, research places where you can take your pets in an emergency evacuation. Do you have family or friends who will allow you and your pets to stay awhile? Create and update a list of hotels and emergency shelters which allow pets. Bring Fido and Go Pet Friendly have directories of pet-friendly lodging options.

Maintain a folder of your pets medical records, vaccinations, and preventatives. Keep it updated! My human keeps copies in a folder along with photos of me in our cars as we will use one to evacuate in an emergency making it pawsomely handy! WOOF!

WOOFS! As always, keep ID Tags and microchips up-to-date!

Barkingly, another preparation that humans be prepared for is an emergency Veterinary trip. A human wasted urgent travel time searching for a leash, collar, and towels to cover the bleeding paw. Be prepared.

Happy Summer!

(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!

WOOFS! MEOWS! BARKS! Happy FIRST day of Summer!

Summer brings the hottest weather of the year. It is our human's favorite time of the year! Barkingly, it is the time of year when he has to be pawsitively wise and alert as to how the temperatures can and do affect pets, especially dogs.

Samson, our wise and ever-knowing cat brother, doesn't go outside. Won't go outside. And, definitely never ever goes for walks or pawlays fetch in the backyard- ever. As Samson likes to say, walks and pawlaying fetch are well beneath his dignity.

Barks, during the summer months and hotter weather, Dad pawlans our walks earlier in the day, or later in the evening, when it isn't as hot. Pawingly, our road trips are limited to days with less humidity, not quite as hot, and definitely not on those "Air-Quality High Alert Days." Don't be the shirtless athletic guy who runs with his dog during the high hot temperatures in mid-day. It's dangerous for the dog, oh, and human too. Woof.

Woofs, the one adventure that will stop for the summer months, is leaving me or Abby in the car while Dad quickly goes inside a store for something. Paws, he rarely goes shopping and leaves us in the car to start with. Instead, of taking us with him in hot weather, he will leave us home. Woofs. I will miss those trips to the garden center. Bark.

Happy Summer! Remember to take care of your pets in summer's heat!

Happy Father's Day!

(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!

Woof! Meows! Bark! Happy Father's Day to all human, canine, and feline fathers.

Samson, Abby, and I are pawsitively thankful for our feline and canine fathers, for they are the ones who helped give us life into this world! He did his best to bark, paw, and woof seeing that we got a good start to our lives in this pawsome universe.

We are pawticularly thankful for our human dad on this Father's Day. He adopted us, has taken care of us, provided food and water, and took us to see the Veterinarian as we need. He is pawsome!

The fun part for Abby and me, Noah, is Dad takes us for walks and car road trips. Samson says those types of things are beneath his dignity, so he enjoys the quiet of the house while we are gone. Barkingly, he enjoys pawlaying fetch with us too!

We hope you have a pawsomely grand Father's Day!

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, The Humane Society of Loudoun County

Dog Adoption

Woofs! Happy Friday! Barkingly, I hope you have some pawsome pawlans for your weekend!

My friends from the Humane Society of Loudoun County have been quite busy taking care of assisting dogs and cats, looking for their "Forever Homes!" with humans to love who will love them too! They brought by Nash for you to consider adopting!

Barks! Nash is a 70-lb. lap dog. He is pawssibly around 6 years old, and his DNA test reveals he is 50% Staffordshire Terrier, 25% Great Pyrenees, and 25% “mixed” breeds.

Barkingly, Nash is a super cuddly, goofball of a fella who always wants to be with his humans! He is a well-behaved guy who enjoys visiting the horses!

Nash has tons of energy to burn. He enjoys running and hiking, though he can be equally happy cuddling on the couch and watching a movie with his humans.

WOOFS! Nash is a loveable fella who is loyal, faithful and very good. Paws, he does have some anxiety around small mini-humans. He is not recommended to go to a home with mini-humans ages 10 or younger who have not been taught how to interact with such a large dog! Pawinglys, likewise with cats. He seems to want to chase things with unexpected movements.

BARKS! Paws, Nash needs to get to know his humans before he is ready to give full affection. If he is excited and held against his will, he will give a warning nip!

Barkingly, he is a big guy who hows know to use his size to get what he wants!

Paws, Nash graduated from a training program and is doing pawsome minding his manners! His trainer offers follow-up training and complimentary group classes for his adopter. More details are available to applicants.

MEOWS! Happy Friday!

(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!
My pawsome friends from the Humane Society of Loudoun County have been pawfully busy these days helping cats and dogs find their "Forever Homes!" with humans to love who will love them too! They brought by a sweet young kitty named Purla for you to consider adopting.

Meowingly, Purla considers herself to be quite the blessed girl! She was lost outside, looking for help, and help found her! A kind lady in our neighborhood who likes to help cats found her! She scooped her up and took her home! Paws, the other cats and dogs in her home, whispered how pawsomely nice she is and not to worry! Purrs, she was so happy!

The lady scanned Purla's whole body with a funny-looking doohickey gadget thingy to learn if she had a chip! Paws, she didn't find one! Meow, she looked around for my humans too. She took me to a Veterinarian to get her all ready for her new family!

Meows, purrs, Purla got her name because she has such a loud and strong purr! She is a sweet girl who loves to pawlay! She is still you and still has some kitten energy!

Purrs, meows, Purla hasn't settled into her cuddling phase yet, but she loves belly and back scratches! Pawingly, she enjoys pawlaying with jingle balls, tunnels, and wands with ribbons to chase!

Cat Adoption

Meows! Happy Friday, my furriends! Paws, it seems these weeks are going faster and faster! Meows! Any pawsome pawlans for the weekend? I think Dad, Abby, and Noah, were going to head for a drive to the Shenandoah National Park but with all the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, it looks to be put off
(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!
for a few days. HISS! That means no peace and quiet for me! Those three are something else. Do you have a cat to spend the weekend, and all of your free time with?

Meows, my pawsome furriend "Cat Lady!" from the PetConnect Rescue brought by two incredible darlings for you to consider adopting! Purrs, meet Mystic and Monster! They are bonded buddies who are looking for their "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love them too, together!

These two pawsome characters are like typical human teenage boys: WrestleMania, chow hounds, quick cleanup, and repeat! Purrs!

Mystic and Monster will be happiest in a home with older mini-humans and/or adults as they need more than a split second to adjust to new sites and sounds!

Purringly, they are fine with cat-friendly, laidback dogs, and other adult cats!

(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!

WOOFS! MEOWS! BARKS! Our humans took a pawsome trip to hear the Gaither Homecoming Friends "Family Fest" concerts in Gatlinburg, TN, and a few days at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Dad says they saw seventeen bears and twenty-six wildlife!

Barkingly, we are having the mostest pawsitively pawsome grand time with our dear human friend, Miss Kim. She came to the house to stay with us. We've played games, taken long walks, gone for long car rides, pawlenty of fetch, and having more fun that we ever imagined! We are thankful for her taking time to care for us!

Paws, when Dad isn't around, we three are not allowed to use the computer. We pawlan to return to writing about our friends needing "Forever Homes!" with humans to love who will love them too, next Friday, June 9,  2023.
