Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Paws for Seniors

Oh WOOFs!  BARKS!  I got to meet a star of the play, "Legally Blonde" being performed at the Fauquier Community Theatre tonight and in the month of October!  More about that in a paw or two, meet Santa!

"Santa"
(C) Paws for Seniors
Santa was found walking along the road by Danny & Ron's Rescue.  They found Santa's human, but sadly, they could not keep him!

Santa is estimated to be around 10 years old, is hearing impaired and cannot see so well but has the coolest little hitch in his get-a-long due to a healed hip dislocation.

Despite the drama he's had in his life, he is one of the happiest and fearless guys you will ever meet!

Santa lives up to his name as he wins the hearts of the humans he meets.   You will smile too when you meet this pawsome character-

Santa is house and crate trained.

He gets along with other dogs, cats and older mini-humans.  He has one of the most contagious smiles!  He will have you smiling and chuckling with joy when you see the pure love and joy he brings with him.

He is looking for a human who will take him on daily walks which he loves!

He loves time to snuggle on a nice orthopedic or hanging out next to his human.  The volunteers at Paws for Seniors instantly fell in love with him!

Interested in meeting Santa?  Please complete the Paws for Seniors Adoption Application.

BARKS!  Oh and here is a link to this "dahling" actor's performance- "Legally Blonde!"

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Homeless Animals Rescue Team

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Homeless Animals Rescue Team

Black dogs, and black cats too, make pawsome pets.  I think black is a pawsomely beautiful color on dogs and cats too- I am reminded of this as I've had two friends needing "Forever Homes" and humans to love that are black and nearly as pawsomely handsome or beautiful as I!  Note, I said "nearly." WOOFs!

My friend at Homeless Animals Rescue Team came by this week with a friend for you to meet- Lidia! An 11-year-old, Labrador Retriever mix!

"Lidia"
(C) Homeless Animals Rescue Team
Lidia is an older lady with some energy!  She is the pawfect older pooch with the energy of a youthful pups!  WOOFs!! Bark!

This gal can be a bit choosy as to the dogs she will hang out with or call friends, but she loves humans and hanging out with them. She  needs to be shown there are some lovin' humans who don't mind that she's getting a little older!

Once Lidia learns the humans love her and will not abandon her again, she will be a pawsome star of the house!

Lidia has no history with cats or mini-humans.

If you have questions about Lidia, please contact Dick!

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, PetConnect Rescue

When they say black dogs are beautiful or handsome and incredibly barkingly pawsome, they are not only talking about me but this pawcellent girl who visited me this week!  Raven!

Meet Raven!

"Raven"
(C) PetConnect Rescue
A pawsome stunning, 3-year-old girl, Raven has a personality to match! To add to her pawsome beauty, Raven has a pretty purple tongue.  She is one strikingly beautiful dogs!

A calm, gentle, super brilliant girl, Raven is amazing on a leash as she will "heal" right beside you!  BARK!!

Barks, Raven will tolerates other dogs pawing, but prefers to be your one and only princess- dog that is-  in the house.
"Raven"
(C) PetConnect Rescue

PetConnect Rescue guesses she is a mixed herding breed, maybe with some "Australian Kelpie" or "Blue Healer?"

During crate and house training, she did pawnderful and didn't have a potty accident in the house.

Raven is a pawsome gem and is ready to find her "Forever Home!"

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League

Yesterday, I was leaving the Veterinarians office when I noticed this pawsomely huge dog. I looked at him, he looked at me, an amazing dog to meet!

So, this week, when my friends at Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League brought a friend by for me to meet, I thought it was Deja Vu- hmmmmm like I'd just seen him- woofs!

Meet my friend Deuce!

"Deuce"
(C) Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League
Deuce is a 6-year-old, Black male Great Dane.

Deuce is staying at a local kennel while looking for a new foster home, or better yet, a "Forever Home!"

Deuce is adjusting to his new routine quite well and is enjoying playing with the other dogs.  Since coming back to the kennel, his human friend has noticed an improvement in his social skills.  He is now more comfortable meeting humans!  While it is still on his timetable, he has improved pawsomely!

"Deuce"
(C) Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League
Deuce loves and takes great comfort in his stuffed animals- they are his most prized possession!

Deuce does suffer from anxiety and will bark when going back into his crate and left alone.  For this reason, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League doesn't think he'd be a good fit for apartment living!  A single-family home with a yard to play is what he needs and wants!  WOOFs!

Mr. Deuce is very routine oriented, he loves his schedule, and will do best in a quiet home where a human is home a lot and likes to follow a routine.

The right situation and human will rally make Deuce thrive and make a pawsome companion!  WOOFs!!!

"Deuce"
(C) Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League
Interested in meeting this barkingly pawsome Great Dane named Deuce?  Please visit the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League website to learn more!

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Homeless Animals Rescue Team

Happy Friday!  I love Fridays!  Usually the end of a work week and my human can sit around all weekend and give me treats and the best water he can find, scratch my ears, rub my belly, pet my incredibly handsome head and take me for long walks and play in the backyard and, well, I'm sure I will think of some other pawsome things for him to do!  BARK!

I had a pawsome time meeting my friends at "Homeless Animals Rescue Team" this week and their buddy "Rico!"

"Rico"
(C) Homeless Animal Rescue Team
Rico is a 7-year-old male Hound mix, much like me and we hound mixes are pawsome dogs!  He is friendly with other dogs, don't know about cats, and is recommended for mini-humans over the age of 8.

Rico is a very sweet and attentive guy who is looking for a "Forever Home" and humans to love!

Like me, he is a "velcro dog" who is happiest when he is with his humans going on life's adventures and activities!

Rico loves going for walks, trips to the park, hanging out with you while gardening, watching TV or a movie or just hanging out!

Rico is very food motivated so he'll be fun to train.  Given his passion for food, and given his ability to help himself to food being carried by a toddler or mini-human, he is not recommended for a family with young mini-humans.

Rico is house and crate trained.

While Rico would be happy as your one and only dog, that is, so he can get all of your attention, he would do with with another dog in the home.

Rico traveled all the way from New Mexico to find his "Forever Family," and will be a pawtastic companion for the lucky human's who adopt him.

Do you have questions about Rico?  Please contact Ren.

Does Rico grab your attention? He'd be great to spend these coming Fall does with.  Please complete the Homeless Animals Rescue Team Adoption Application.

If you aren't able to adopt Rico but realize that he is the most incredibly handsome and barkingly pawsome dog you've ever met, besides me that is, then consider sponsoring him.  For information on sponsoring this pawsome guy, please visit Sponsor Rico!

What do I do with my dog when I go on holidays?

Going on holiday can be a lovely experience – as long as you aren’t plagued with worry about what to do with your dog. Sometimes taking them with you isn’t always practical, especially if you are going abroad, which means that you will need to organise some care.

There are some options for you to consider, and here are the most popular examples:

Friends or family

Asking your friends or family members to look after your dog means that your pet is with someone they know and trust. You can also check in as often as you like to ensure that they are all okay. Of course, you need someone with the space and availability to look after your pet for you, which isn’t always possible, but if you are one of the lucky ones this will be the cheapest option for you.

Kennels

Dog kennels can range all the way from basic to ‘dog hotels’, which you can select depending on your budget and requirements. At these establishments, the staff will ensure that your dog is well fed and exercised, but as the environment will be a little strange, some dogs can struggle to adjust. To try and negate this, you should visit the kennels in advance to check out what they have on offer, allowing your dog a brief examination of the place too. Reviews are also a great way to find out what previous customers think.

Boarding

Your dog will stay in someone else’s home while you’re away, if you choose this option. There is a risk with this one, but as long as you do your research beforehand your pet will be fine. Just make sure that you know everything about the environment before you leave your dog there – for example, do they have the right licences? Will there be other animals there? What have past customers said about the sitter?

Dog Sitting

If the idea of a traditional kennel doesn’t suit you, you might wish to consider dog sitting with a professional. This is where the sitter comes to your home, where your pet is comfortable and happy, to look after your dog. As long as you select a reputable company with positive feedback, you’ll know that you are getting someone trustworthy, who will put you and your pet’s best interests at heart.

Not all pet sitters live in your home while you’re away, they simply drop in every day to feed and exercise your dog, so you need to decide what service works best for you. Does your dog need someone there at all times, or will they be able to cope with long periods of isolation? Are you happy to have someone living in your home, or would you rather them simply visit?

You will need to research all of these choices very carefully to make sure that you are doing what is right for you and your pet. Every individual animal has their own needs, and only you know what is best for them.

Find a Bed that Saves Your Dog's Joints

If you love dogs, and have had the privilege of seeing a childhood friend and companion through his last days, you know that you would do it all over again. The end of a pet’s life can be one of the hardest things for anyone to endure, but knowing that you did everything you could to provide him with special care, creature comforts, and lots of love is always reassuring. Part of that care will be making sure he had a soft place to lay his head to rest.

A dog is a member of the family. They are there when you come home from work and always eager to see you. Unfortunately, as a dog begins to age, their bodies begin to wear out. Many don't fully understand that these animals suffer from most of the same conditions that humans do. It is up to their owners to ensure that their medical needs are met. Have you ever had a hard time sleeping at night? Your dog knows the feeling, too, and this knowledge is what companies like Mammoth Outlet have built their businesses around. When arthritis or conditions like hip dysplasia begin to develop within the connective tissues that cushion ball-and-socket joints, bones start to wear down and cause a lot of pain. This type of issue is incurable, but what you can do to help out is remember that fragile bones need a lot of support.

Arthritis is caused from cartilage surfaces of the joints thinning. If your dog always slept with you, they may not be able to get up on the bed anymore. Having a bed of their own is the best answer. Sure, you can go to any department store and buy one, but that will not give a pet suffering with ailments the support they need. Even if your dog doesn't need a special bed to help with the aging process, you still want your puppy to have a good night's sleep. That's why you need a product that is made by people who love pets. You want a company that isn't always looking out for the bottom line, but rather looking out for those they say they are helping.

When you buy from a company that has been manufacturing only one kind of product for over twenty years, you know they’re doing something right. A place like Mammoth Outlet, where dog beds are the specialized, carefully engineering works of memory foam, orthopedic virgin fill and furniture-grade fibers is ideal. Removable covers provide you with convenience, because they’re easy to clean in the machine, and these covers will resist staining, mildew, and even repel water at the surface. They attach with Velcro so they are easy to get on and off.

Because the employees at Mammoth actually love dogs, they take their comfort to the heart. There is nothing worse than watching animals suffer because their bodies are failing them, or they have a condition that they cannot overcome. Don't let your dog sleep on just any bed, make sure they have the best one available.

PetMedella - Pet Wellness

"PetMedella - Your Pet's Health in Focus"
(C) Allen Pearson
BARKS! Are you interested in holistic care for your pet?  Using herbal remedies, homeopathic remedies, and nutritional supplements, you could help your pet to better health.

WOOFs!  I found the most pawsome Pet Wellness website to share with you, PetMedella! Using hair or nail clippings, and saliva samples from your pet, you can learn remedies to assist in your pets care.

My human caught me not paying attention or half asleep, took a saliva sample from my mouth using this overgrown Q-Tip.  Then, he gathered quite a handful of my hair.  He placed these in a bag supplied by PetMedella and mailed it to them.

While waiting for the results from PetMedella, he set us up an account on their website.  Once set up, you complete a questionnaire about your pet.  As you fill out the online form about your pet, be careful to note all medications and vitamins you are giving your pet for anything and everything.  Leaving off anything will effect the end result of the test as well as the vitamins recommended by PetMedella.

PetMedella receives the samples and runs a series of tests.  These tests help to identify any chronic issues while no stranger or no veterinarian touches some pet- which can cause stress or nervousness.

Usually, within 7 business days, PetMedella sends you an email with the results of your screening.  Log onto the account you created on PetMedella to get the results which will look something like this report but specifically about you.

Barkingly, if something is discovered seriously wrong with your pet, PetMedella will contact you along with sending the report by email.

At the end of the report will be a list of remedies which can be used to treat your pet.  These remedies are considered along with the current medications your pet is taking.

Always and always and, yes, always, consult with your pet's veterinarian before administering any new treatment.

Friday's Friend! Cat Adoption, PetConnect Rescue

I have more than a few friends at PetConnect Rescue and I love catching up with them.  My friend "Miss C" brought by two meowsters for you to meet- these two need to be adopted together as they are BFF's!

Meet Polly and Peach!

"Polly and Peach!"
(C) PetConnect Rescue
Polly and Peach are 4-month-old orange tabby girls with pawcellent purr motors.

These two cool cats love playing with kitty toys and climbing up on cat trees!

A note from my friends at PetConnect Rescue:
The adoption fee is $135, which helps cover the cost of routine vet care. The fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter if the kitten is not already spayed/neutered. If the animal you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered, you will be required to sign a contract legally obligating you to have the animal altered. A $100 spay/neuter deposit iscollected to help ensure that the procedure gets done in a timely manner. Cats adopted through PetConnect Rescue must be indoor only, and may not be declawed (unless already declawed at the time of rescue).

Polly and Peach are up to date on their shots.

If you would like to meet them, they will be attending an adoption event on Saturday, September 17, 2016, 11-1pm at the Rockville BARK! store. For more details visit PetConnect Rescue Adoption Events.

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART)

Happy Friday!

I've got a special friend for you to meet this week from the Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART).  She is a foster parent of Domino and she wants to share with you why you should adopt her-

"Domino"(C) Homeless Animals Rescue Team
"A bumper sticker commonly used by those who have adopted rescue dogs asks the question, "Who rescued whom?" The question implies that the adopting a rescue dog will change your life beyond the act of saving a life. The feeling of pure love and devotion is often difficult to find in our busy lives. If you are looking to be rescued, then nothing’s better than a nice walk around the park followed by belly scratches on the couch and a yummy treat of carrots and strawberries according to sweet Domino, a wonderful HART dog, who is looking for her forever home. Domino’s fantastic disposition shines as she walks down the street with a smile on her face. Domino is a mature dog, crate trained and house broken, and she has a wonderfully talkative personality. Earlier in her life, she lived with another dog and she prefers calmer friends. When she’s not snuggling with her foster family or keeping watch to see if someone is walking by her house, Domino enjoys venturing outside for a trip to the park or taking a stroll to sniff the various blooming flora. She's a tremendous stress reliever who encourages her foster family to unwind by petting her with as many hands as possible. Her hilarious stretching routine that includes doing the Army Crawl across the floor and flipping over onto her back to wriggle around the room will leave you laughing every time. Though she is a senior dog, don't overlook her incredibly soft coat of fur and the love she exudes for those who care for her. This beautiful pup is deserving of her forever home (older children only) where she can continue to be a loving, affectionate, and loyal companion."

If you have questions about Domino, please contact Kim.

Interested in meeting Domino and learning about dog adoption?  Please complete the Homeless Animals Rescue Team Adoption Application.

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Operation Paws for Homes

Happy Friday!  I look forward to the weekends as that's when my human and I go places together.  We have a barkingly pawsome time going for walks or going to the local garden centers or a park- if you adopted a dog, your weekend could be barkingly pawsome too!

My friend "Miss Ashley" brought by a pawsome dog for you to meet- Alec!

"Alec"
(C) Operation Paws for Homes
Alec is a 5-month-old handsome male tri-color Terrier mix who is hounding for his "Forever Home!" He may be a mix of Terrier and Shepherd so he may grow to be a medium size guy! His sisters and mom found humans to love, now Alec is looking for his!

Alec is looking for special humans who will love him and have patience to help him bring out his sweet shining personality!

A goofy, charming personality that is very smart, a bit shy, and willing to please, Alec know his basic commands.  Alec is house and crate trained.

Alec would love nothing better than to greet you every day with his big smile and his warm brown eyes!

Since he is a bit shy, Alec would do best with humans who have experience with dogs, older mini-humans and another dog to teach him the ropes of being a treasured pawsome family dog!

Visit these videos, Alec and Playmates and Mom and Pups to see Alec.

Friday's Friend! #Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

I think this is beautiful shiny black dog week at Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc. as my friend "Lab Lady" brought by two beautiful Black Labrador Retrievers for you to meet this week.   She knows that I am one handsome shiny Black Labrador Retriever/Plott Hound mix but I am not available for adoption-  WOOF!

Meet Lady!

"Lady"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

Lady is a sweet 3-year-old who is looking for a "Forever Home" with a physical fence - not one of those invisible fences- as she will run right through it!  She comes from the suburbs and has no experience with big cities so she wants a home in a single-family neighborhood or a rural area!

Lady loves attention and getting treats from humans.  She has a huge personality which shows her love for humans!  Though she is a bit shy at first, Lady warms up quickly.

Lady is house and crate trained.  She walks best on an "Easy Harness!"  Lady loves to run and play ball!

She is good with other dogs but not with cats as she will chase them! arf?  She is recommended for mini-humans 10 years and older.
