Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Operation Paws for Homes

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! Before I introduce you to a friend from Operation Paws for Homes, I want remind you of their Bark, Wag and Wine event in Middleburg, VA this weekend.  WOOF!!!! Barkingly grand is that it's a fundraiser for dogs in their care!!!  You can learn more about it here.

I've got a sweet young lady to introduce you to this week!! Am having a great time meeting young pups this week, meet Esme!

"Esme"
Credit: Operation Paws for Homes
Isn't she pawsomely beautiful?  She is an 8 month old Boxer mix puppy.  A loveable girl who needs exercise and attention.  The young lady is quite the goof ball -as she is still a pup! She loves running and jumping in the back yard after balls or playing with other dogs. She loves chewing on a Nylon bone too.

At first, Esme, will be a bit shy but she warms up quickly. She gets along great with other dogs and is mostly house and crate trained. She would flourish in a home with another dog to play with or a family who is able to keep her active.

Esme is up to date on her vaccines, spayed and micro chipped. She is being fostered in Hanover, PA.

If you would like to meet Esme and learn about dog adoption, contact Operation Paws for Homes.

Friday's Friend! Cat Adoption, Washington Humane Society

My friend from the Washington Humane Society brought a young cat by for you to meet this week.  His name is Bran!

"Bran"
Credit: Washington Humane Society
According to Staff Veterinarian, Caitlin Neal, DVM, "Bran loves everyone! He is very affectionate with people and gets along with other cats and dogs! He came to the Washington Humane Society after he was found abandoned in an apartment complex, but that never got him down! With some TLC he received from a foster home, Bran was able to get over his past and overcome some medical issues. Now he is happy as a clam! Since he makes best friends with everyone, including other cats and dogs, he’d be happy to go to any kind of home as long as they love him as much he loves them!"

You can meet Bran at the Washington Humane Society's Georgia Avenue Adoption Center at 7319 Georgia Avenue, NW, Washington D.C., (202) 723-5730. Or to learn more about cat adoption, visit, Washington Humane Society- Tell them Noah sent you!  WOOF!!!!

Happy Autumnal Equinox

Used by Permission, GraphicStock
Yesterday, was a busy day, then I had computer trouble! And, my human doesn't like me to use the F- word around the house.  I don't know why he gets so upset about the F- word but he does- crazy I would say!  WOOF!!

So, since I found a great graphic, I want wish you a happy Autumnal Equinox. Have to avoid the F- word, don't know what it is- WOOF!!!  I think it has something to do with BTS and the word Spring and Summer, as in his favorites. Definitely can't tell you what BTS is or I might be in trouble.  WOOF!!!!

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Tico"
Credit: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
I always enjoy my woofing visits with the Lab Lady. She is nearly as crazy and loves dogs as much as my human does. When my human goes on a Rescue[d] dog photo shoot, I wonder if he'll bring a dog home with him- he says its hard not to do so! The "Lab Lady" always has barks of fun when she brings me a dog for you to meet- TICO!!!

A 2 year old male Black Labrador Retriever who weighs around 54 lbs., Tico loves nothing more than playing and being around his humans. A very happy dog whose tail wags nonstop!! Tico is looking for a family who will exercise him and has a fenced backyard where he can play!

Games of run/chase around the back yard at full speed, chasing tennis balls and pulling on rubbing toys and wrestling with humans are a few of Tico's favorite things to do to satisfy his play drive. Yes, wrestling with humans- but if you're not up to is, he likes a good ear rub just as much!

Tico is housetrained and will go to the door or will move frantically about when he has to go out. He is crate trained and will stay in it overnight or for a few hours- he's cool either way!
Walking on a leash is coming along well along with some basic commands but will do great with more proper training. He is eager to please his humans!

There is no cat or kids history so he's recommended for ages 10 and up.

Tico is up to date on his vaccinations and shots.  If you would like to meet Tico and learn dog adoption, please contact Lab Rescue

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Operation Paws for Homes!

"Sebastian"
Credit: Operation Paws for Homes
WOOF!! Barking pawsome to introduce you to Sebastian!  He is from Operation Paws for Homes!  This guy is a lot like me- so he's perfect for an active family!

Are you a family that enjoys adventure and exploring?
How would you like to have a dog that is still a playful puppy yet housebroken?  Motivated to please?  One that loves humans, the water, jogging, other dogs?
Sebastian is the dog for you!  WOOF!!!

Pawsome, Sebastian isn't like many of the laid back large breed dogs. He is a CoonHound breed which are very intelligent and high energy!

He is always curious and likes to have things to occupy himself. He loves and needs to be part of someone’s life that would enjoy his daily outside antics.
His expressive face and body language add to the enjoyment you'll have with him in your home!

Sebastian loves to be talked to and isn't very demanding. Even with the high energy, once completely trained, Sebastian can go anywhere with you and charm the socks off anyone.

Sebastian is nearly one year old and is altered and current on all of his vaccines.

If you would like to meet Sebastian and learn more about dog adoption, and begin a fun adventure, please visit Operation Paws for Homes.

Friday's Friend! Cat Adoption, Washington Humane Society

"Tiger"
Credit: Washington Humane Society

Happy FRIDAY!!! WOOF!!!

I'd like you to meet my friend Tiger!  He was introduced to me by the Washington Humane Society.

A really cool guy, Tiger is a sweet and affectionate nine-year-old, 15 lb., American shorthair!  And, he is still independent though this distinguished gentleman is in the prime of his life!

He is content to supervise the daily goings-on of Kitty City from his favorite perch near the window so he can see his new humans coming to go to his new "Forever Home."

Tiger brings a sphinx-like air of grace and poise. He gets along well with other cats, but he prefers to be a bit laid back rather than spend his time playing. He enjoys laps, windows, and gentle chin scratches. Tiger would do well in most homes without small children.

If you would like to meet Tiger or learn about cat adoption, you can visit him at the Washington Humane Society's New York Avenue Adoption Center, 1201 New York Avenue, NE, Washington, D.C, (202) 576-6664, or visit Washington Humane Society

From A Foster Parent: Dog Adoption

WOOF! Barkingly pawsome are the Foster Parents and Families which take in dogs and cats in to their homes-

Today, I am pawed to share this story from Dennis Norkus, a foster parent whose family is contacted by A Forever Home to care for dogs.

"We have fostered several dogs since becoming involved with A Forever Home Rescue Foundation. All have been worthwhile and satisfying experiences. It has helped in the fact that we have three dogs of our own, two cavaliers (mom and daughter), and our daughter's 3 year old black lab.

Every dog we have fostered has appeared to fit into our three dog's schedule. Most of them attach themselves to Brady, the black lab since he likes to run and
play with them more than the cavailers. With every new foster, we introduce him/her to the others by bringing them into the fenced in back yard first and let everyone get acquainted. It seems to lessen the territory/ownership factor once inside the house. I have yet to meet a dog who doesn't like a treat. After all the dogs have gone out in the backyard to do their business, they would come in and line up near the treat jar and patiently wait their turn.

"Baylie"
Used by Permission, D. Norkus
Another thing they all seemed to enjoy was to take a walk around the neighborhood. Our development has quite a few dog owners and we always stop for the dogs to get to know each other.

We did make a mistake with Baylie though. She was a little skittish when we first got her. When we brought her around to the backyard and mistakenly
took off her leash, she ran away from us and wouldn't come no matter what. We chased her around the yard for about a half hour. My wife then had the idea to bring the other dogs in the house and then place a few treats leading up to the door and into the house. It worked to coax her into the house, and eventually she settled down.

Lovey was an interesting corgi that we had for a while. Being low to the ground and a little overweight when we first got her, she had trouble getting up the steps.  She would stand at the bottom and bark for a while, turn a few circles to get some momentum, then charge up the steps. At times, she would stop half way up, which would put her in a dilemma. She would have to turn around, go back down and start all over again. After going for walks and slimming down a little, the steps became a little easier for her.

Brodie, a lug (lab and pug mix) was the latest foster that we had. Being a puppy, he did like digging small holes in the backyard. He didn't chew things much, but at times you would find someone's shoe in the hallway that he had carried from the closet. He had a playful gait to him, prancing around the yard with not a worry at all. He had so much energy and it was funny at how he chased Brady around the back yard.
"Brodie"
Used by Permission, D. Norkus

I have to admit, you do get attached and the hardest part is seeing them go once you get used to having them around. One thing we did last year was to invite all of our past fosters with their owners over to our house for Brady's birthday party. It was good to see them all again and to know that they are being taken care of in a loving home.

Friday's Friend! Cat Adoption, PetConnect Rescue

"(Penelope) Garcia"
Credit: Allen Pearson's Photos
Meet (Penelope) Garcia, a sweet and beautiful young mom.  She was introduced to my human a few weeks ago at a photography shoot and to me this week by my friend "Cat Lady!"

(Penelope) Garcia was rescued with her kittens which make up one gorgeous family (hey- don't tell the guys I barked that- OK?)! She took great care of her kittens, but it's time for her to find a "Forever Home."

She loves to snuggle with her human, purr a lot, being petted, brushed and especially loves to be on a lap.  (Penelope) Garcia's long hair is soft and silky, with a tail that is soft and poofy. Since her whiskers are really long, the foster parents think she will fill out to match them.

If you would like to learn about cat adoption and meet (Penelope) Garcia, please complete an PetConnect Rescue Online Application.  One of their Adoption Coordinator will contact you.

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

This is your LUCKY day!  Not only is it Friday and you get to read my "Friday's Friend" post about dog adoption, you get to meet LUCKY! The Lab Lady brought him by this week and said Lucky is a lucky dog- lucky to be with Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc. and a foster who loves him!
"Lucky"
Credit: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
At first, he wasn't so lucky as his family turned him in to the shelter where he was rescued and is now on his way to find a "Forever Home" and "Forever Humans" to love him- and he will give it back!  WOOF!!!

Lucky is one cool dog. a 3 year old, 82lbs., male Yellow Retriever.  He's knows when to go out and go potty, to sit on command and a few other important things we dogs are great at!  WOOF!!

Lucky enjoys riding in the car, exploring the world while walking on his leash- sometimes he gets a bit too excited and pulls on his leash but that can be corrected using an EZ walk. He loves to play with his toys and a good game of fetch!

He shows a bit too much interests in cats, so Lab Rescue doesn't give approval for now. He has no history with children so he'd be best with ages 10 and up.

Want to meet Lucky, dog adoption and what its like to hang out with Lucky? He will be an adoption event this weekend:

Saturday, September 13
10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Webers Pet Supermarket
11021 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy
Fairfax, VA 22030

For more information on dog adoption or Lucky, please visit Lab Rescue.

Happy Friday!!!! And welcome to my weekly post of "Friday's Friend" where I introduce humans to my dog and cat friends who are looking for a "Forever Home." Most of the dogs and cats are available through local rescues and shelters.

My friend, "Miss Cathy" from PetConnect Rcscue has brought a young 12-13 week old Terrier mix, named Dixie, for you to meet!

She is good with other dogs, loves everyone and is young enough to learn about cats!  She's a playful and curious girl which adds to the fun!!  WOOF!!

Since she is a baby, Dixie will need an adopter who is home a good part of the day to continue her training - no exceptions!

Dixie is current on age appropriate vaccines and preventives and will need to be altered at the age of 6 months.

If you would like to learn more about dog adoption or meet Dixie, please visit PetConnect Rescue.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! I know I bark that every week, but if you are anything like my human, he practically dances when Fridays arrive.  And, I love it too because it usually means more time with my human.

Isn't she a pretty and sweet young lady? Aisha is a one-year-old, 45 lb., English Staffordshire Terrier mix. She was found with duct tape wrapped around her head covering open wounds which she gladly let a Washington Humane Society Field Services Officer remove the tape as she knew it was the start of a new life!! WOOF!!!

Aisha loves car rides and belly rubs, and is a stellar ball catcher. She would do great in a home where she can go for walks, short jogs, play ball, but then enjoy tons of cuddles and pets from her humans.

Would you like to meet Aisha and learn about dog adoption?  You can visit her at The Washington Humane Society' Georgia Avenue Adoption Center, 7319 Georgia Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C., (202) 723-5730 or visit Washington Humane Society for more details.
