Friday's Friend: Cat Adoption, Washington Humane Society

Cats.  Cat Adoption.  Two subjects I enjoy visiting when I get the chance.  They are barkingly pawsome, or maybe I should say 'meowingly pawsome, pets.  They make great companions and are the number #1 pet in the nation.

This week, my friends at the Washington Humane Society, brought by a pawsome mature cat named King for me to introduce to you-  WOOF!

"King"
Credit: Washington Humane Society

A cat in the prime of his life, King makes the perfect house companion as he has great manners, is a big cuddly love bug and a mushy purr monster!

He loves humans and wants nothing more than to snuggle up with you while you're reading a book or watching TV!

Even though he is an older guy, King has a good chunk of life ahead of him and a lot of love left to give!  Barkingly pawsome, oops meowingly and don't tell my buddies, he’s gotten all of the mischievousness out of his system and will not get under your feet or climb your curtains!

King is a ten-year-old, twelve lbs., domestic shorthair cat. Interested in meeting him and learning about cat adoption? You can do so at the Washington Humane Society's New York Avenue Adoption Center, located at 1201 New York Avenue, NE, Washington, DC 20012, 202-576-6664, or visit Washhumane.org/adopt.

"Bandit"

WOOF!! Hope you had a barkingly pawsome Thanksgiving with family and friends!! Mine was a bit different this year- my humans went out to eat so I didn't get to sneak my annual piece of ham- but maybe later.   And, my human said he really missed me yesterday since I couldn't go to the restaurant with him, Mom, and gramps.  But, he's got a great day for us today which is one of the best reasons dog adoption is so pawsome.  Spending time together doing stuff! BARK!!

My friend "Lab Lady" stopped by this week to introduce "Bandit!"  She was on her way to celebrating her Thanksgiving too-

Bandit lost his home when his human moved and couldn't take him!  He was taken to a shelter where he was rescued.

A handsome, almost as good looking as me, 4 year old, 80 lbs., Black Labrador Retriever, Bandit was sent to a Prison and Pets local program where he learned basic commands.  He is one loyal guy!! WOOF!!!

House and crate trained, though he doesn't care for the crate too much, he'll use it.  Bandit does well when walking on the leash and meeting other dogs.

Bandit has no cat or child history, no he's be best with children ages 10 and up.

He is up to date on shots, and needs a few boosters done, but is ready for his humans and a new "Forever Home" to begin enjoying life with.

Want to learn about dog adoption and meet Bandit, please contact my friends at the Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc..

Happy Thanksgiving!

PAWS TO YOU on this Thanksgiving Day!

May your human "accidentally" drop a piece of meat
on the floor- just for you!

May your human realize he's eaten too much
and take you on a nice long walk!

May your human realize a good game
of fetch will remedy that overeating status!

May your human show his thankfulness for you
with a few extra treats!

May your human spend time cuddling and petting you
and scratching that ever so good feeling spot and not stop for hours!

May your human skip "Black Friday" shopping
to spend  the day with you!"

I am thankful for the many readers of my work-
and my human's when I let him write!

WOOF!!

A most HAPPIEST WEEKEND TOETH THOU!!! woof? arf? I think I'll quit trying to mimic my humans attempt to show he knoweth some Shakespearen-speak! He's got a lot to learn! WOOF!! Yet, I paw him-

With the weekend coming up, and then the holidays, I am pawing forward to spending time with my human. Usually, we hang out, go for a ride, go for long walks. And, when Dad has to work in his studio, I curl up next to him!

The holidays are even better!! My friend "Lab Lady" has been really busy caring for quite a few dogs- I am so thankful for the work she and the other volunteers do to help dogs find homes. This week "Lab Lady" has brought by Lincoln for you to meet!!

"Lincoln"
Credit: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
A 5 year old yellow lab weighing 80.5 lbs., Lincoln has been brought up in a rural area,so he'd probably not do well living in a city, an apartment/condo, or a busy neighborhood. He needs a quiet relaxed setting, without a lot of people coming and going, to be happiest.

"Lincoln"
Credit: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
Lincoln looks forward to daily walks and does well on an Easy Walk Harness with his regular collar and leash. He is very pleasant and easy to walk and does well passing other dogs and people.

Playing tug of war and tennis balls are some of Lincoln's favorite activities, but don't leave him left alone with them! WOOF!!!!!! He loves the large dog Nylabones and will chew for at least an hour each day. Also, loves to ride in the car and is a very good traveler.

Though Lincoln does well around other dogs, he prefers to be your one and only getting your love and and attention!

He is up-to-date on vaccines and weighs 84 pounds.attention! No cat or kid history for Lincoln so he's approved for kids ages 10 and up.

If you would like to know more about dog adoption and meet Lincoln, please contact the Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Meridia"
Credit: Operation Paws for Homes
WOOF!!! Happy FRIDAY!  and HAPPY THANKSGIVING- enjoy yourself but don't eat too much- be sure to keep an eye on your pets so they don't get stuff they shouldn't have- can't believe I wrote that since I am always trying to sneak something from my humans!  WOOF!!

Meet Meridia, she is a spectacular looking 52 lb,female, 1.5 year old old German Shepherd/Boxer mix. She is funny, playful, snugly, loving and gives the best doggie kisses!!

Currently, she is being fostered with dogs, cats and two young children ages 2 and 4 years old. While Meridia enjoys playing with her foster dogs and learned her place in the pack quickly.

It will take some time and lots of treats for Meridia to trust new humans in her life, but she will once she's comfortable.

Loud noises and sudden movements cause Meridia to flinch, so my friends at Operation Paws for Homes recommend a home with children who are used to having a dog around.

Meridia is home and crate trained, crate trained.  She knows some basic commands and will flourish with a person or family that is patient with her and love her as a full member of the family. She will need exercise regularly!

Meridia is spayed, micro-chipped, up to date on her shots and being fostered in Cockeysville, MD.

If you would like to meet Meridia and learn about dog adoption, please visit, Operation Paws for Homes.

An "Oldies But Goodies" Fundraiser

WOOF!!! Barkingly pawsome is the son of one of my human's colleagues!! I had to paw this post about him as I am pawd of his project.
"Max"
(C) D. Fox, Used by Permission

Instead of me barking what he has to say, I'm going to let him do it all!

"Hi, my name is Dylan, and I am about to have my Bar Mitzvah! Along with my Bar Mitzvah comes my Mitzvah Project, where I do a good deed to help around the world or in my very backyard."

"For my project I have chosen to help the non-profit organization that helped me find my dog Max, Oldies But Goodies. Max is the best dog anyone could ask for. Even though he is not the youngest, coming in at 6 years old, he is the spunkiest dog I have ever known! I love him so much and hate to see other dogs suffer like he did!"

"WiggleButt Max"
(C) D. Fox, Used by Permission

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Apple"
Credit: Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
This young lady's name is Apple- and is she ever sweet and beautiful!!  My friend "Lab Lady" from the Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc. brought her by for you to meet!

Are you looking for a Black Labrador Retriever with the puppy energy? Apple is your girl.  She is all puppy in a long legged super model body! She loves loves loves to play and run.

Apple loves her human and craves their attention so she should be easy to train. She does great with other dogs and is starting to learn commands.

She is learning the appropriate way to meet humans, without jumping up.

Apple likes to roughhouse with the other pups but happy to just play fetch with her foster human me and ignore them. She knows how to swim, though is a bit unsure about jumping in.

She doesn't like to sleep in her crate, but when offered the opportunity to sleep in the guest room at her foster's home, she whined a bit and then settled.

Apple is a very active and needs a lot of daily exercise, and someone who will commit to training her. She's a sweet girl who just needs direction - she's simply never had anyone tell her what she can and cannot do.   She would do with with a job or some chore to do-
She has no experience with cats and is good for children ages 10 and up.

If you would like to meet Apple, and learn about dog adoption, please contact the Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Operation Paws for Homes

Hope you have had a great week!  What better way to spend the weekend but by checking out dog adoption through one of the local rescues like Operation Paws for Homes.  Adoption adds a friend to your family that you will enjoy for time to come!

My friends at Operation Paws for Homes have many great dogs available for you to visit, today they would like me to introduce you to Ivy- a very smart, 3 year old, 65 pound Rottweiler!

"Ivy and her Toy"
Credit: Operation Paws for Homes
This young lady is probably mixed with some combination of German Shepherd and/or Chow who is house and crate trained.

Ivy does great on a leash but left to her own choices, she is laid back and would probably be a couch potato- she'll need parents who will walk her or play in the yard and not allow her to just nap in the sun.

The definition of a Rottweiler by the American Kennel Club is "a calm, confident, and courageous dog with a self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships".  Ivy may take awhile to warm up to you, but once you've shown your care for her, she'll be your friend for life.  Her new humans will need to understand that and allow her to have the space she needs and not push affection too fast.

Due to her temperament, Ivy would do best in a home where she is the only child.  Though she does well with other dogs, she always needs to be supervised as the others tend to want to play more than she does and it becomes a bit much.

"Ivy"
Credit: Operation Paws for Homes
Although she's done well with children of all ages, Operation Paws for Homes recommends a home with no children.  The stress of constant little ones can wear on her patience. WOOF!!!

Ivy knows several commands and tricks, but a favorite is "Nose!" Ivy touches her nose to yours. It will melt your heart!

If you're looking for a happy-go-lucky dog to cuddle with, Ivy is not the girl for you. If you're looking for a loyal, calm, highly intelligent companion Ivy is your girl! In the right home, Operation Paws for Homes has no doubts she'll blossom into a wonderful addition to the family.

Interested in dog adoption and meeting Ivy, please visit Operation Paws for Homes.

Friday's Friend: Cat Adoption, Washington Humane Society

Happy FRIDAY!!  Do you like black cats?  Those beautiful, sleek, black cats that are the most beautiful cats with those shiny black coats- no this has nothing to do with me having a black coat and being very handsome- really!

My friends from the Washington Humane Society brought by one cool cat for you to meet, Nicole Kitmom!  WOOF!!

"Nicole Kitmom"
Credit: Washington Humane Society
My friend, the Lead Animal Caregiver of the Washington Humane Society, shares this about Nicole:

"You may have heard of Nicole Kitmom, she is quite the celebrity in the cat world. She just wrapped up filming her latest silver-screen flick and is ready to relax and stretch out her paws in a cozy home! She is a sweet girl with a nice and shiny coat who loves to let out her inner diva and wants to be your one and only. She promises to entertain you with her acting chops and give you tons of cuddles. Do you think you can make Nicole Kitmom the queen of your castle?"

Sounds like a great cat- beautiful cat- for some great human looking for catpanionship!

An 8 lbs., domestic short hair, Nicole was rescued by the Washington Humane Society in March 2014.  She found a home but her human had to return her due to a work schedule that didn't allow enough time for her care.
