Slow Down: You Live Here. We Live Here: Fairfax County

Credit: Exploring By Bike
WOOF!! My human and I love to take long walks in our neighborhood.  It's a treat we both look forward to as many mornings, we just walk around the block.  The long walks happen on weekends and holidays.

Sounds pawfect, right? Wrong. We have to be very careful when crossing streets and at intersections.  I know, everyone has to do this, but not everyone has the speeding cars and cars that don't stop at "Stop Signs" or yield to pedestrians like we do in our neighborhood.

Barking pawsome, for those reasons, Dad has taught me to stop at all intersections and not put a paw off the curb without the "OK" command from him. I've learned not to step off the curb or sidewalk to the street without my human's "OK!"

While that's good and well fine, it's not good for humans to speed through neighborhoods where little humans, medium humans, large humans and well, I won't go further, live- there are little humans playing, humans riding bicycles, dogs playing and possibly chasing other critters, cats are strolling, humans doing yard chores, jogging and all kinds of crazy activities!  WOOF!!

SLOW DOWN- You Live Here- We Live Here!   Not only that, life is too short, slow down and enjoy it.

..............and remember STOP means STOP!  WOOF!!!!!!!!!!!

Barkingly, this should apply to any neighborhood, anywhere- all the time!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today, we pawse to give "Thanks!"

"Thanks" for our many blessings- our humans, our fellow dogs, our fellow cats- yes, cats too.  WOOF!!!

I am blessed with two humans, one crazy one and one normal one- I'll let you determine which is which!  ARF!  hee hee! I am thankful for both of them and I need both of them and they need me!  WOOF!!

Used by Permission, GraphicStock
I am thankful for food and treats that my humans give me though they tend to be careful not to give me too many which I don't think there is such a thing as too many treats- but the strange human does!

I am thankful for my nice leather collar that has my name, address and phone number on it so if I get turned around when I chase a scent- a human can direct me!

I am thankful for my uncles and their wives who help keep my human straight, the crazy one you know, and take care of me when he travels.

I am thankful for my readers- where else can a dog express himself and share his thoughts and have humans read it?

I bark forward to reading what you are thankful for, in the comments below-

A Dog and A Human Look Alike!

"Noah, I hear dogs and their owners often start to look like each other."

"Oh no."

"What?"

"I'm the better looking one, you know."

"Well, I'm not exactly ugly."

"No, for a human, your not bad.  It's just, I'm a dog.  I'm a handsome hound with beautiful shiny black fur, brown soulful eyes,a nice long tail and a personality that's just IT! And, well, uh, I'm not sure I want to look human."

"Uh, gee - Thanks!"

"Woof! Now, if we are talking about YOU starting to look like me................"

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Animal Welfare League of Arlington

The Queen!  The Queen has arrived- all of you humble humans shall bow at her royalty as she checks YOU out for her human and "Forever Home!"  She humbly visits us from the Animal Welfare League of Arlington!

"Lady Lucy"
(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved
Miss Lady Lucy, Queen of the tennis balls, is seeking a few loyal human servants who shall wait on her paw and paw at all times!   She will only tolerate certain chosen humans who will meet her royal standards- though it is not impossible to be there- she is quite the picky puppy.  Barkingly, she isn't one who readily accepts new humans to her circles- a calm kingdom to rule over you without too much activity is her pawfect choice.

Kingdoms with big humans, no little humans, is best suited!  She is quite cautious with strangers and is uncomfortable with invasive handling, after all, royalty must be handled with quite specific paws!  WOOF!!!!

Lady Lucy is a spayed female chihuahua mix who is about three years old.

Interested in meeting her and learning about dog adoption?   Please visit our friends at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington.

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

"Trevor"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
"RUFF! My name is Trevor and I am barkingly pawleased to meet you! I am looking for a great human to love and a 'Forever Home!' Barking pawsome is 'Lab Lady' who brought me to meet Noah and share about dog adoption.  Paws, I was brought to the Lab Rescue because one of my humans passed away and the other was unable to care for me."

Trevor is a really cool guy.  He is a 10 year old male, 67 lbs., Yellow Labrador Retriever! Though he has been through a lot of change recently, he continues to be a happy and well-behaved guy.
"The Many Faces of Trevor"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

What Trevor wants most from these changes is love, love, and love from his human. He will happily return the affection! Trevor has perfected the "Sit and Place Paw on Human for Love" skill.  WOOF!!!! Trevor loves every human he meets!

Trevor has the unique skill of being a dogsigner!  He likes to design rooms by moving his doggy pillow to a better spot for his pawleasure!

Crate and house trained- though his foster mom hasn't crated him while he's lived with her and he behaved himself well.

Walks?  He loves to go for walks and does pretty good on an EzWalk Harness....sometimes he zig zags while checking out all the various smells, but
mostly he does a good job.  As a senior dog, he enjoys his relaxation time, but if a young dog wants to play he likes to run around.  He's still got it!   BARK! Pawsly, Trevor does not do well off leash and has a tendency to bolt, he should be kept on leash when in an unfenced area- in many areas that's the law too.

Trevor gets along well with other dogs- though not sure whether he would need another do around to be happy!

Barking, Trevor's experience with cats proves him to be a little overly cat-curious!  WOOF!!!! Though he lived with a dog-savvy cat for awhile, he needed verbal reminders not to stalk the cat. arf?  Pawsly, no cats for Trevor.

Trevor has not lived with children so he's approved for kids 10 and up!

If you are home more than not and want to feel the absolute pure unconditional Labrador love, Trevor may be the dog for you.  He'll keep you smiling! An affectionate gentleman in need of a place to live out his golden days- is a pawfect way to describe this character!  WOOF!!!

Watch Trevor here Trevor Dog!

Trevor is a current on vaccinations. Barksters- Trevor has an old injury in his right rear leg that has already healed, and there's nothing to do. He's on glucosamine supplements.

Interested in meeting this barksterly pawsome Yellow Labrador Retriever- Trevor and learning about dog adoption?   Please visit, Lab-Rescue.

Take a Step into the Pit Bull Life

(C) FPM Kennels, Used by Permission
The Pit bull has gone under a lot of negative influence displayed by the media the past decade. Dog fighting and biting incidents have brought the loving image of the Pit bull to the ground. Advocates like myself work everyday to change this misconception by educating the public and by being a responsible owner. The Pit Bull has been placed under a range of Breed Specific Legislation, varying from owner restrictions to the outright ban of the breed. This article will help educate the reader of the misconception of this wonderful breed, and why it has come to where it is today.

Why?
One of the most prominent examples is the involvement the Pit Bull plays in dog fighting. The image is even more tainted by Super stars involved in this gruesome sport such as Michael Vick Professional NFL quarterback. The Pit Bull was thrown into the spotlight, where they are displayed as a killer, that can harm people and other dogs.

There has been many reported incidents of “Pit Bulls biting people” this past decade. The problem with all these statistics is they classify all pit mixes or anything that simply resembles a Pit Bull into this category. Pit Bull isn't a breed, it’s just a grouping of dogs with similar characteristics. This breed is more affected by the owner then any other, the Pit Bull’s attitude and behavior reflects that of the owner. Every dog, as every person has the potential to act poorly, it all depends on how they are raised and taught what is right and wrong.

As a result of these negative actions, many local governments worldwide have issues Breed Specific Laws, more commonly referred to as BSL, these laws have really diminished the public outlook of the breed. The common person that hasn't ever owned a pitbull thinks they are mean and harmful, because of the media’s attitude towards the breed.

The truth,
Thousands upon Thousands of individuals including myself have fought to bring this negative attitude away from the Pit Bull. Laws against dog fighting are becoming more stiff, resulting in heavier penalties. As the Pitt Bull is trading hands and coming into more and more positive ownership the breed overall outlook is changing. Many of the BSL laws are in the process of being overturned as the public becomes more open minded. The media is starting to report on the positive the breed brings instead of focusing on the small percentage of the negative.

Conclusion
Day by day the misconception of the Pit Bull breed is changing, I hope in reading this article you will take the chance of being more open minded and giving this loving breed the chance. The times are changing, and I’m proud to be apart of the movement.

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Operation Paws for Homes

"Franklin"
(C) Operation Paws for Homes
Every day of every week of every month of every year, humans with animal rescues and shelter are diligently working to help many types of animals find "Forever Homes" and pawsome humans for them to love and to love on them. All of us dogs and cats are pawsomely grateful for their work- I would have never become a writer without their work- WOOF!!

My friend "Miss J" from Operation Paws for Homes brought a gentleman by this week for you to meet-

Franklin and his siblings were found in a landfill by a kind rescuer. Surprisingly, he's the last of his litter left at Operation Paws for Homes!

Franklin was very shy when he came to Operation Paws for Homes but has really come out of his shell and ready to find humans who love hot dogs, and a "Forever Home!"

He may still be a bit shy, noises do spook him, at first when meeting new humans, but once he warms up to you, all he wants to do is play!

Yes. Hot dogs. They would be a great treat when training him!

Franklin enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs- he spends a lot of time with his foster human paying and napping. Franklin is a curious and playful puppy.

Due to his small size and young age, Operation Paws for Homes recommends that he goes to a home with children that are respectful of his size and age. He will require an adopter to continue his training - no exceptions!

Franklin is up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped and will need to be altered.

Interested in meeting Franklin?  Please complete the Operation Paws for Homes Adoption Application!

Interested in learning about dog adoption?  Please visit the Operation Paws for Homes Adoption Guide.

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Washington Humane Society

WOOF! A pawsome Friday to you!  My friends from the Washington Humane Society brought by a pawnderful dog for you to meet-  Mila!

"Mila"
(C) Washington Humane Society
Mila is a 7-year old, 55 lbs., mature, gentle and respectful gal who loves the quiet lazy life!

Mila wanted to share with you her story, "WOOF!!! Pawleased to meet you -At a stocky 55lbs, my foster mom calls me her little tugboat, but she's just jealous of my naturally buff physique. Everyone says I should be a model because of my pretty eyes, well defined cheek bones and my lovely coat. I am incredibly well behaved and listen very well. I am reserved and respect your personal space. I was probably a daddy's girl, because when I see men I turn into a silly little
puppy and will wiggle around for attention! Like they say, the way to a girl's heart is through her stomach and my love LOVE of food makes me really easy to train and it makes everyone giggle to see me get so excited because I'm normally such a cool customer! I need to be the only animal in the house but other than that, I'm as easy as they come. I'm not much for playing with toys and am beyond the puppy chewing stage, but walking and sniffing are great- and the couch is even better! Have treats? I'll show off my sit, down, stay, here and touch commands. Want to teach me more? That would be fun! Have kids? I lived in a big family before and lived with kids of all ages and would probably love to have that again. Pawed to meet you! BARK!! Mila!"

Barking pawsome is her Instagram gallery at Instagram: Mila!

Interested in meeting Mila? Does she sounds like a good fit and interested in learning about dog adoption? Please email, kseidl@gmail.com to set up a date!

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

WOOF!  Barkingly pawsome Friday to you!

My friend, "Lab Lady" from the Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc. brought by a sweetheart of a young lady for you to meet this week!

Brazil is a young,  18 month, 57 lbs., female Yellow Labrador Retriever!

"Brazil"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
Isn't she a beautiful girl!??  WOOF!!

Brazil is a country girl with no exposure to big cities so she is looking for a "Forever Home" in the country in a single-family home with a fenced backyard. Barkingly, she must go to a home with another dog!
"Brazil"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

A quiet home without quick movements, as they tend to scare her, and patient humans will be barkingly pawsome for Brazil. The reward will be lovin's and laughter.   Endless special moments with a special dog! Brazil loves to follow her human around after she feels comfy with you!

Fully house trained, crate trained and though she enjoys her dog bed, Brazil loves to snuggle with her human in their "big" bed! Brazil's foster human has allowed her to be alone in the house with no issues!

Lab Rescue is teaching her basic commands while Brazil has been busy pawing her perfect house manners- she doesn’t touch anything that doesn’t belong to her!  WOOF!!

Brazil loves squeaky toys and she loves to hoard them- she enjoys moving the inside toys outside- so the human never knows when they may out!  BARK! When you see her, she will wag her nubby tail- which appears to have been surgically removed. OUCH!

Brazil is pretty good on a leash but still needs some training.  Lab Rescue is working with her but her new human will have to continue it.

Brazil is recommended for children ages 10 and older.  She has no history with cats.  She is good with other dogs.

Interested in meeting Brazil and learning about dog adoption?  Please visit Lab Rescue- tell "Lab Lady" Noah BARKS!!!!!!

Friday's Friend: Cat Adoption, Animal Welfare League of Arlington

I love writing about dogs and cats who need "Forever Homes"- it would be pawsome, if I didn't have to do this because everyone had a human to love on and a home to live in- but until then, I'll keep writing and sharing with you these great critters that need your lovin-  I was in their place once, and am forever happy-

Happy Friday!  My week has been great- as I helped my human with yard work- mom says he always needs supervised so that was my job- between naps and chasing the squirrels!

My friends at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington stopped by to share with me a cat who is looking for his "Forever Home!"

Meet Mason!

"Mason"
(C) Animal Welfare League of Arlington
The humans at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington believe Mason was left outside to fend for himself- meowly not good- he tried to integrate into a feral colony for food but was too friendly and got beat up by the other cats!  WOOF!!!!!!  er, HISSSSSSSSSS!

Mason was never meant to be a street cat!

A caretaker took it upon herself to care for him and worked with Animal Control to help him find his way to the shelter where he got help, care, lovin's and now a "Forever Home!"

Mason is FIV+ but that doesn't hold him back at all!  MEOW!  He loves toys and batting ping pong balls around!  "Making biscuits" is what you will find him doing most of the day!

This character will need a "Forever Home" and humans who will be patient and kind with him - he will return the favor.   Mason prefers not to be picked up because it makes him nervous- but when you call "Mason Kitty" he will come running to you.

Mason is being sponsored by a loving friend so his adoption fee is waved- though standard adoption procedures apply.

Interested in meeting Mason? Or, if you'd like to learn more about cat adoption, please visit Animal Welfare League of Arlington for more information.

Support Dogs, Veterans and see a Movie - Project 22

Our veterans have done so much by fighting to keep our freedom alive.  I get to bark, paw, and woof, while my human gets to talk, Worship God at his church of choice, and many other freedoms.  There are not many ways to easily say thank you to everyone who has done something, no matter how small or great but we can try by supporting groups who assist veterans.

You're invited to a special screening of Project 22- while the event is free, a donation is requested to support Semper K9 Assistance Dogs and the NOVA Veterans Association.

Used by permission of SemperK9
Tickets and information about the event can be obtained by visiting Project22Tix.

Congratulations Dad!!

My human retired from his full-time job after working for them for 33 years!  I am proud of his accomplishments!

What are his plans? To spend time with me, of course, to continue working in his photography business, to take many long walks with me, of course, to continue his writing, to take evenings walks with me, of course, to continue photographing for animal rescues and shelters, to play many hours of tug of war and fetch, of course, and to do support work for his church.  WOOF!!!

I am thrilled to have him home to do more stuff with me- if you can't tell!  BARK!!

Friday's Friend: Cat Adoption, PetConnect Rescue

WOOF!  Happy Friday!  "Cat Lady" came by this week- I was surprised to see her walking with a kitten in each hand and curled under her arm.

They were little girls not but a several months old. These two fluffy kitties were born in May-  meet Carli and Julie!

"Carli"
(C) PetConnect Rescue
"Julie"
(C) PetConnect Rescue
Carli was rescued with her sister Julie by PetConnect Rescue.  The two sisters are excited about finding their "Forever Home!"

A steady quiet purr, an adorable face, as "Cat Lady" tells me, and quiet the love bug, Carli will climb into your lap of extra pets!

Meowsing- Miss Carli, has the pawfect litter box manners.

When she's not cuddling, she loves chasing wand toys, balls, and even her sister Julie!

Julie, when not playing with her sister Carli, enjoys snoozing on the couch and a good chin scratch or belly rub.

Though a bit on the small side, she loves wet food and takes off running for mealtime that's its quite impressive!

Julie loves to play with cardboard scratching posts and sitting on windowsills daydreaming about the world.

Julie's litter box manners are pawfect!!

Carli and Julie would love to find a forever home together – could that be yours? Carli and Julie are spayed, have had all of her vaccinations, tested negative for FIV/FeLV.

Interested in meeting these two young kitties?  Please complete the PetConnect Rescue Online Application.

WOOF!!! BARK!!!!! Happy Friday!  Hope you've had a pawsome week and, I know you are ready for the weekend?  Got any plans for the weekend?  How about adopting a two Labrador Retrievers who are looking for their "Forever Home?"

My friend "Lab Lady" is at it again.  This time, she's brought by these two hot, gorgeous, beautiful babes, er, uh, hmmmmm, sorry- she brought a bonded pair of female Labradors for you to meet.   Miley and Bailey!

"Miley and Bailey"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

Miley, a 7 year old, 91 lbs., female Yellow Labrador Retriever must be adopted with Bailey, a female Black Labrador Retriever  Guess it may not be polite to share a lady's weight but am just trying to share with you- they aren't small dogs!  WOOF!

Are you looking for a perfect pair of Labradors? Search or sniff no more!  WOOF!!  Miley and Bailey were surrendered to Lab Rescue when their humans had to move due to health reasons.  So I am trying my pawst to help find them "Forever Homes!"

These two beautiful characters are a bonded pair who are excellent in the house, they don't need a crate and love to hang out together.   They share the same dog bed, they like to play- though in spurts-  get along with their foster's Labradors, and love to just hang out at their humans feet!  BARK!

The ladies mind their manners when it comes to furniture, they don't get on it even though welcome to do so but prefer their own dog beds.

The girls have very soft shiny coats with large Labbie heads and paws- they are the most gorgeous girls, er uh-

Miley and Bailey are looking for a family to love that will help them loose some weight and live the life of luxury.

There is no cat history, so it's an unknown.

No history with children is available either, so they are approved for ages 10 and up.

The lady's are up to date on vaccinations and are ready to find their "Forever Home."  Is it yours?

If you are interested in meeting Miley and Bailey, please contact the Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc..
