Dog Adoption and Cat Adoption Benefit from Your Year-End Giving!

Christmas in the City by Ellie Lord

It was the week after Christmas when all through the land, many humans were headed back to work after a few pawsome days off while others were still enjoying some time away from the office! Many had a pawsome Christmas from celebrations large and parties small.

The puppies and kitties and dogs and cats in the rescues had a pawsome Christmas and maybe even some special pawty snacks and toys too. They opened their presents, they looked at their donations large and small, they are so grateful for the items received! For they, will need, and continue to need supplies to help them make it to being the bestest-pet-they-could-ever-be!

In this season of giving and love, the dogs and cats at local rescues continue to need your help. They are in constant need of supplies and those supplies being replenished. Barks, maybe you really love dogs and cats but are unable to adopt, pawlease consider sponsoring a dog or a cat in a rescue or donating to help with expenses rescues have.

WOOF! BARKS! Samson and I write and photograph to support dog and cat adoption from several local rescues. We are sharing the links to the rescues who can use your donations to purchase much-needed items for the dogs and cats in their care! Barks, pawlease note, donations must be made by December 31, 2019 (tomorrow night) to count for this year's tax deductions.

A Christmas Eve Tail!

Nativity
"Nativity"
Photo by Alasdair Elmes on Unsplash

"bark. woof. s-h-h-h-h-h Samson. do you hear it?"

"purr. meow?! what Noah? why am i whispering? meow."

"it is a quiet time. a hush. dad calls it a holy quiet. it happens every Christmas Eve."

"purrs... yes.. i hear it ...i'm scared Noah...what's going on? hiss. hiss. hiss.

"woof. no need to be scared Samson.. nothing to be afraid of .. but you can gather close to me ... if you want to......

dad says that every Christmas Eve when the sun begins to settle... a holy quiet seems to settle over the land.. all the noises of every day seem to quiet.. the traffic noises.. those heard from the interstate and highway.... even those noises heard from the trains and locomotives going through either end of town... all seem to stop... you can go outside and sit and feel the quiet...

at first, dad thought it was just something happening where he was living, but then, he happened to be in other places and he noticed it when he moved to a new home... then again later in life when he moved again... "

"purr...why does this happen, Noah?"

"barks. a little more than 2,000 years ago, a baby was born in the little town of Bethlehem. it was the baby Jesus... God's One and Only Son. He was born to live among men for 33 years and die on a cross for the sins of man!

At Christmas, we celebrate His Birth with decorations, pawties, and gifts to family and friends."

"meows. oh wow, now when i hear the silence of the night on Christmas Eve, i will think of this you have shared with me.... "

"woof, very cool Samson... and Dad likes to look for a bright star in the east on Christmas Eve which shone brightly on Jesus's Birth on that first Christmas Day!"

"Meowy Christmas Noah and dear readers!"

"Woof, Merry Christmas Samson and dear readers!"

A Christmas Blessing for Me!

WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! A Christmas blessing for me every year is the pawsome trip I get to take to see my Aunt Prissy Face, cat cousins Max and Zoey, and my Uncle Tall Guy! Barks!

 and Uncle Tall Guy"

They are barkingly pawsome humans! They always welcome me to their home with such open and loving arms. I get petted all the time I am there and loved on all the more! Paws, oh my dogness, the delicious meals including pawsome breakfasts were the bestest ever!

The tradition of driving to see them began a few years ago when my human retired from his full-time work! One year, we visited the Billy Graham Library. That has turned out to be one of our favorite adventures. Barks, we have had fun seeing such Christmas sights as NASCAR's Christmas at the Charlotte Speedway! Barks. This year, we went to see Christmas lights which I wrote about earlier this week

Barks, the coolest thing this time was when Aunt Prissy decided to rub my belly and my cousin Zoey wanted some attention so she had her hands full!

Barks, it would be pawsome if my cat brother Samson could join us too- he could crawl up into Uncle Tall Guy's arms along with Max! Everyone would get their bellies and ears scratched! WOOF!

Paws, woof, it wouldn't be Christmas without family. A visit to my human's aunt and uncle make it so special!

Happy Winter Solstice!

Happy Winter Solstice
(C) Allen Pearson Photography

"Woof! Happy Winter Solstice!"

"Meow! What's a Winter Solstice Noah?"

"Barks, it is the astronomical first day of winter and the shortest day of the year- Dad's least favorite day of the year, pawingly, one of his kinda-sorta-favorite days!"

"HISS! What? Dad what?"

"Woof, Dad doesn't like the winter because of the snow and ice so he, naturally, doesn't like the first day of winter. Barkingly, since it is the shortest day of the year it means the following days will only get longer until we reach the first day of summer which is the longest day of the year. So he likes the days getting longer....woof... they will start getting warmer long about March or April."

"Purrs, that makes sense to me. I knew Dad and I had a few things in common. I like longer days too- so I can watch the birds at the feeders for as long as I can watch them! Purr.........."

"Barks, the first day of Winter usually means snow, ice, and all those fun winter-weather storms will soon follow. The first winter after I got adopted, I had NEVER seen snow or ice. It freaked me out to see this white stuff falling from the sky. Dad noticed and pet me for a while then I went out to play in it. WOOF! Ever since then, I love it."

"Meows! The weather never really changes in Dad's sunroom studio! For that I am thankful!"

Buddy doesn't understand the concept of "personal space" and thinks he's a lap dog! Barks! He either climbs gently into your lap or barrels into you -but he is working on being gentle! He thrives off human interaction and loves being with his humans!

WOOF! I love this time of year! Bark! WOOF! I LOVE traveling with my humans to see my mostest bestest favorite-est Aunt and Uncle- Aunt Prissy-Face and Uncle Tall Guy!

One of the coolest parts of the trip, besides seeing my family, was to visit this really pawsomely cool Christmas lights display in Concord, NC! It was pawsitively beautiful! WOOF! WOOF! Barks! The Fantetti Light Show has been a local favorite for many years. The Christmas Light show has been lighting the skies of Concord, NC for nine years. The donations support a military charity or an animal rescue!

Barkingly, this year it is something special to me! Woofs, while the show is free to anyone who stops by, there is a red Christmas stocking to the right of the exhibit where you can give a donation to help raise funds for  Griffin K9 Rescue in Monroe! BARKS! BARKS! The donations are to help provide dog kennels where needed! Barks, I pawed my humans to donate! WOOF! Barks, the Fantetti family has seven rescued dogs in their family! That is a pawsome way to live life!

“I full-heartedly believe in the dog rescues, particularly this dog rescue,” Patty Fantetti said. “I love the people. They are Christ-centered. It started in their home and they felt that this is what God led them to do. I can’t imagine a dog not living in a house.” (Independent Tribune).

The Fantetti Christmas Light Show is located at 263 Palaside Drive, Concord, NC. The show runs through Christmas night. The show of 120,000 lights synchronized through music transmitted through a radio station lasts 26 minutes, and starts every 30 minutes, starting at 6 p.m.

Ludwig van Beethoven's Birthday!

"Beethoven"
(C) Flickr Creative Commons, Francisco Anzola

"HISS! HISS! HISS! BEETHOVEN?? BEETHOVEN? Why in the world are we pawing about Beethoven Noah?"

"Woof, don't you have any culture, Samson? Though his exact birthday isn't certain, it may have been yesterday December 16th, but he was baptized on December 17, 1770! He was a great romantic composer of pawsome music! BARKS!"

"Meow! Silly boy! I have culture I just wondered why we are celebrating his birthday? Is he one of the guys that Dad likes to listen to his music while we are working? Hiss! He plays the stuff ALL DAY LONG! Gets a little annoying after a few minutes if you ask me!? Can we all say TURN ON THE ROCK 'N ROLL?"

"WOOF! Yes, Beethoven, actually Ludwig van Beethoven, is one of several composers who Dad loves their music. Beethoven was known for being instrumental in changing the world of music. Though he loved and was influenced by the Baroque and Classical music periods, he is known for taking his music in a different direction which led to what is known as the Romantic Period. Mozart and Haydn gave him lessons and instructions in music. Without Beethoven's influence, we could still be listening to Baroque or Classical music. Dad would like it but the rest of us would go a bit crazy.

What Dad finds fascinating about Beethoven's music was his ability to compose such awesome music while going deaf. His final Symphony, number 9, he never heard. When he finished conducting its performance, someone had to turn him around to face the audience so he'd know how much it was liked! WOOF!"

"Meow! Purrs! So purringly grand!"

"Beethoven wrote 9 symphonies, 5 piano concertos, a violin concerto, string quartets, a mass, and some choral pieces include including opera!

Don't like classical music? BARKS, you can be thankful for Beethoven who enabled music to go beyond its classical roots.

Beethoven would have been 249 years old. His birthday this year celebrates the beginning of a year of celebrations leading to his 250th!"

"Meow" "WOOF!" "HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEETHOVEN!"
