WOOFS! Happy Friday, my friends! Barks. My friends at Operation Paws for Homes brought by this beautiful girl named Annie for you to meet! She is looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too!

Annie is guessed to be around 1-year-old and a Husky mix. She weighs around 55 pounds. She needs an hour mixture of off-leash playtime and mental stimulation every day.

Barkingly, Annie arrived at the rescue very pregnant and gave birth to nine pawsome puppies! They have all been adopted, now she is looking for her own home. She's free to be a puppy herself!

Annie, woofingly, enjoys playing with toys, retrieving, running, jumping, and playing. To be the happy puppy she can be, she'll need at least an hour daily of off-leash playtime every day.

She is learning commands like "sit," "down," "wait," "heel," "leave it" and "off."

Annie likes to sleep in her crate and hang out in the house while her humans work.

Paws, she loves all humans and dogs. Annie likes snuggling with her human. She does great with other dogs after proper introductions. She will pawlay gently with dogs much smaller than her.

Barkingly, she has a few things to work on with her new human. Don't jump when excited. Sit instead! Paws, sometimes she's just too excited she needs to jump- but she's working on it. Woofs. She is pretty good walking on a leash but can pull when interested in what other dogs are doing! Barks.

Purrings, Celeste is guessed to be around a year old! When she first arrived at the rescue, she was very shy and scared. Paws, her foster family has been very patient with her showing her what love means!

Meowingly, Celeste is a sweet girl who loves to make new friends!

She is a mama to five kittens. When one of them was returned, she immediately took it in even after not seeing it for six weeks, which is rare for cats. Now that they've found homes, she is looking for her own "Forever Home!"

Meows, Celeste loves mini-humans and other cats, especially kittens, and she's very gentle with them. She loves being with her human. She enjoys napping near their feet.

Purrs, Celeste is litter-box trained, up-to-date on her vaccinations, and spayed.

Considerations to Adopting a Cat

Photo by Manja Vitolic on Unsplash
"Adopt Me?!"

Barkinglys, I am taking a paws from dog adoption today to share with you a pawsitive alternative to dog adoption. Not necessarily in place of or instead of or as a better choice as we all know dogs are the best! WOOFs er, my human mom tells me that cats are equal to dogs as choices for pets and I have to write that if I know what is good for me and I want to continue to live in the house, er, uh, arf?!

Yes, my mom had cats before she ever even considered a dog for a pet - she didn’t know what she was missing until she and my dad met and he taught her all about dogs while she taught him all about cats.

Paws, I barked with my mom for a while about cat adoption, and I dogpiled, uh, no, the “search engine” not what you were thinking, to learn reasons why a human should consider cat adoption.

Mom? She says because “they are precious!” She smiled. I smiled back.

A few paws I’ve learned about cats are they are pawfect pets for the workaholic, city-dwellers, humans living in apartments and the generally laid back as they are independent and do not require walking. Nor, do you have to make sure you’re home in time to let them out, a simple litterbox and your cat can give you “gifts” without any work on your part. Cats will bathe themselves, so you don’t have to! Cats cherish moments sitting with you or curling up on your lap watching television or just vegging out - no guilt from them to workout or exercise. Cats can help with pest control around the home. Barkingly impawtant is adopting a cat could save your life - as it’s well documented that a pet will help lower a human’s blood pressure and the risk of heart disease. Not to mention, petting a cat can increase the “feel good” endorphins in a human’s brain. Barks! Cats can be very entertaining as they play with cat toys!

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue

Yellow Labrador Retriever Dog Adoption

WOOFS! HAPPY FRIDAY!! My friend, "Lab Lady," brought by a beautiful young Yellow Labrador Retriever named Dewey who is looking for his "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too. He must go home with another dog and a female-only home.

Dewey is looking for his "Forever Home!" in a rural or suburban single-family home with a physical fence required. He will have a Training Addendum attached to his adoption.

Barkingly, Dewey is a very happy and pawlayful puppy. He used to love outside with twelve other Labradors so he was intentionally pawlaced in a foster home with a pack of dogs! WOOFS! This will provide him time to adjust to indoor living and learning to trust humans. He is growing more confident by the week.

Dewey is a petite fella who has become quite the lap dog. He likes belly rubs, ear rubs, and/or back scratches. When his Foster Mom scoops him up for some attention, he snuggles in and pawlaces his head on her chest.

Woofinglys, Dewey's pawlayful pawsonality is shows when he pawlays with all the foster dogs. He likes to pawlot pupply attacks, sneaks up on three at a time, though he really loves the younger, energetic siblings! They pawlay chase, carry sticks together, roll around on the ground or pawlay tug-of-war for hours on end! Barks! He relies on the resident dogs as role models and follows their lead. An energetic canine in the home would be great for him.

Paws, once he burns off some energy, Dewey is a low-key pup. At night, he tries to stay awake with the other dogs but he often falls asleep with his head up. Overall, he is a fairly mellow puppy. He goes with the flow, likes naps after a hard pawlay, and prefers an early bedtime.

He is still cautious around most men, especially those he didn't see coming. Barkingly, he is making great strides in approaching male visitors to the yard or house after watching them for a minute or two. He prefers an all-female home.

Woofs, he has great house manners and does not need crated when left home alone! He is a good alert pup letting you know when someone's at the door.

Dewey created a video to help with his adoption: Dewey Plays Ball.

Dewey is approved for mini-humans ages 10 and older as there is no history of him ever living with mini-humans. He has an unknown history with cats too. Bark, he is good with other dogs.

Our Sympawthies to Nevada Northern Railway Roundhouse Crew!

"Dirt, the Boss Shop Cat"
(C) 2018, Robert Crise

WOOFS! Meows! Barks! It is with very heavy hearts that we express our condolences and sympawthies to our friends at the Nevada Northern Railways at the loss of their Boss Shop Cat, “Dirt!” Pawings, Dirt was 15-years-old and loved by everyone at the railroad, neighbors and visitors from around the world. Meows. He began life in spring of 2008 in the engine house of the Nevada Northern Railway National Historic Landmark

Dirt was lovingly introduced to the world of railroads, pawlenty of coal dust which he couldn't get enough, and cared for along his life's way, by the pawsome staff at the engine house. He loved his naps in the warmest pawlace in the shop, the coal-fired steam locomotive. It is there where he got his name, while rolling in the coal dust. He soon discovered his home was very noisy at times and quickly learned where the best pawlaces to nap were.

Dirt grew into a most pawpular pawsome cat. A media and internet sensation being featured in the Washington Post, Trains Magazine, newspapers in Europe, and pawbably thousands of individual posts from visitors who got to take his picture. The publicity brought many humans to Ely, Nevada to see this pawsome fella. He was a  media and social media sensation!

Woofs, meows, barks, the three of us and our humans express our deepest sympawthies to those who knew and loved Dirt! May you have pawsome memories of a pawsome cat who made your life so much more special.

WOOFS! Happy Friday!! I am so pawleased to share a dog needing a "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love him too from my ol' rescue, Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART). They do pawsome work helping dogs and cats find families.

Woofs, pawlease meet Laddie! He is around 1-year-old, a Shepherd mix, medium/large-size. He is friendly with other dogs. He is pawssibly mini-human friendly, pawlease ask. Paws, he has no cat history.

Barkingly, Laddie is Scottish for a young boy. The name is pawfect for this guy as he is a youthful pup! Paws, no he didn't come here from Scotland but was taken in by HART from a rural shelter in Southern Virginia.
(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!

Woofs, Laddie has a cheerful, vibrant pawsonality with a abundance of energy. He currently lives in a kennel sp he relishes the rare oppawtunities to meet humans and other dogs. Paws, sometimes he gets so excited he pulls on the leash but is an eager student willing and able to learn proper manners.

Barks, he is a very handsome fella too. Just look at his pawsomely grand photos.

Meows! Purrings, happy Friday! Yes, the weekend is here! Time for fun, folly, and frolic- except I'm pawretty sure I don't want to see Dad frolicking!? Meow. I hope you have a pawsomely grand weekend pawlanned. My humans are going to lunch with a few humans friends so that means a few hours of pawsome quiet! Of course, I think it'd be more fun for them if they took me, but then I'd lose out on my quiet time!

Purrs, my friend Miss Kim from the Homeless Animals Rescue Team (HART) brought by a dawhling kitten looking for her "Forever Home!" with humans to love who will love her too. Meows. Meet Bindi!

(C) 2023, from The Dog's Paw!
She is around 2-years-old, is not declawed, is friendly with dogs, other cats, and mini-humans! Meows. She is a special needs girl having been born with mild Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH).  Meows, CH kitties have a smaller cerebellum, but their condition is not painful nor contagious. Their balance and coordination is affected in that they fall over a bit when they walk, and their heads bobble. MEOWS!! Purringly, BUT Bindi is a Rock Star!! This doesn't stop her from being a pawsomely grand cat as she gets around beautifully, even climbing stairs.

Meowings, Bindi is a super sweet and pawsitively loving kitty! She will climb up into your bed plopping onto your chest while purring and basking in pets! Meows, she is a total purr baby.

Bindi is an independent character who loves exploring. She is able to eat on her own and is litter trained.

Bindi's indomitable spirit has her living life to the fullest. A perfect home for her will be carpeted to help her walk. She will benefit from raised food and water bowls. Meows, there really is no difference in her care compared to other cats in her foster home.

HART will be happy to go through any special requirements of her care with you should you be interested in adopting. Meows, pawlease learn more about Cerebellar Hypoplasia

Meows, it would be challenging to find a more loving, playful, and snuggling kitty.

If you have questions about Bindi, pawlease contact Miss Kim.
