PetSmart Charities and Your PinPad Donations!

(C) PetSmart Charities
(C) PetSmart Charities

WOOF! Barks! Samson and I are rescued pets! Thankfully, our stories are about rescues who found us whether, through a shelter or somebody someone knew, they rescued us from situations that were dire. Paws, we have shared our pawsonal stories over the years many times over as a thank you to those who helped us, and, barkingly, as a means to share with humans about the advantages of adopting a pet instead of shopping for a pet.

Paws, another pawsome way to help dogs and cats in need is to donate to PetSmart Charities. You can donate once or monthly or whatever suits your budget! Barkingly, a really great way to donate is to add a donation at check-out called a "PinPad" donation. You could do this every time you purchase products for your sweet dog or cat. Woofs, our humans donate $1 for each of us, me and Samson! We love it because it makes us feel like we are doing something to help our fellow dog and cat friends in need. WOOF!

Barks! If you would like to learn where donations help, pawlease visit the PetSmart Charities - Financials.

WOOF! Barks! we hope you will join us in supporting the work of PetSmart Charities helping dogs and cats find their "Forever Homes!"

PetSmart Charities: Helping the Victims of Hurricane Harvey

PetSmart Charities® Donates Three Truckloads of Pet Food and Supplies and At Least $1 Million in Funding to Support Rescue, Relief and Recovery Efforts for Pets and Pet Parents Impacted by Hurricane Harvey

My friends at PetSmart Charities are reaching out to help pets and pet parents in need caused by Hurriance Harvey. At least $1 million in emergency relief funding to help animal welfare agencies who are working on the front lines to rescue, relocate, feed, and care for pets that have been left homeless due to the floods. Animal welfare organizations working to save the lives of pets in these areas can visit PetSmart Charities to apply for an emergency relief grant.

“Our thoughts are with all of the people and pets who have been impacted by Hurricane Harvey,” said Dr. David Haworth, DVM, Ph.D., President of PetSmart Charities. “We’re committed to supporting everyone we can who has been impacted by this disaster, including pets and pet parents staying in evacuation centers and shelters in Houston and Dallas who may not have access to the pet food and essentials they need.”

By making grants to animal welfare and social services agencies on the ground in Texas, PetSmart Charities is supporting their united efforts to save the lives of pets and provide much-needed pet food, veterinary care, and supplies. Early grants and in-kind donations PetSmart Charities has made to date include:
  • $150,000 grant to Houston SPCA: Funds will be used to help care for pets in the Houston SPCA’s shelter while also supporting the recruitment and deployment of 13 animal welfare teams from across the country to enhance search and rescue efforts already underway by Houston SPCA
  • $100,000 grant to SPCA of Texas: PetSmart Charities’ donation will support this animal welfare agency’s ongoing efforts to help pets in need at the Mega Shelter recently opened in Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Funds will also support the SPCA of Texas as it cares for more than 300 pets who have been surrendered or evacuated.
  • $75,000 grant to Rescue Bank: Last week Rescue Bank in Houston, Texas received nearly 80,000 pounds of donated pet food generated by PetSmart’s Buy a Bag, Give a Meal™ program. One pallet of food has been delivered to the Houston Convention Center to help feed the pets of people who have arrived in this temporary hurricane shelter. PetSmart Charities’ financial grant will help Rescue Bank to continue to distribute the donated pet food to animal welfare agencies and hurricane shelters in the Houston area.
  • $50,000 grant to Houston PetSet: As a locally-based non-profit dedicated to working with animal welfare agencies and rescues, Houston PetSet will use its emergency relief grant from PetSmart Charities to help smaller nonprofits who are assisting with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and require grants of $5,000 or less.
Providing In-Kind Donations of Pet Food and Supplies:
In addition to providing financial support for animal welfare agencies, PetSmart Charities has allocated two truckloads of donated pet care supplies like collars, leashes, food and water bowls, pet beds, kitty litter and more to help with emergency relief efforts in Texas. Fellow animal welfare agency, Rescue Bank, will deliver these supplies leveraging its fleet of trucks. One truckload is on its way to the SPCA of Texas in Dallas, while the other will soon be arriving in the Houston area. A third truck filled with 50 pallets of donated pet food from PetSmart’s Buy a Bag, Give a Meal program has been rerouted to help feed pets in need in Texas.

Offering Support to Animal Welfare Agencies Saving Pets Impacted by Hurricane Harvey: PetSmart Charities has allocated at least $1 million to support emergency relief efforts in Texas. If you are an animal welfare organization working to save the lives of pets in these areas, visit PetSmart Charities to apply for an emergency relief grant. Due to the volume of requests PetSmart Charities is receiving, all grant requests will be triaged by the grant administration team and responded to in a timely manner.

Interesting in Supporting PetSmart Charities Work?
WOOF! If you would like to support PetSmart Charities’ emergency relief efforts, like those underway in Texas, please consider making a donation at the PIN pads located at the cash registers of every PetSmart store (when my humans are at the cashier at PetSmart, I jump up and nudge their elbow so they don't forget to click on donate!) or online at PetSmart Charities/donate.

Buy a Bag, Give a Meal! Petsmart Charities

(C) PetSmart®

BARKS!! Every week, my human and I write posts about dog and cats needing "Forever Homes" titled "Friday's Friend." Barkingly, we photograph for local rescues to provide awesome images which they can use in their publications and websites to help the dogs and cats get adopted too.

Why? I know, first hand, what its like to be a stray walking the woods, the trails, the roads and the highways in search of my next meal and a place to rest.  My human knows, first hand, the blessings of dogs and having adopted one-incredibly-pawfect-dog which made his, and Moms, life so pawsome!

When I read about PetSmart's® "Buy a Bag, Give a Meal" donation program, I couldn't let another bark or woof go by without letting you know about it.

Here's the paw, "When you purchase a bag of dry dog or cat food at a PetSmart® store, PetSmart.com or PetSmart.ca between March 1 and December 31, 2017, PetSmart will donate a meal (5oz dog food, 1.5oz cat food) to PetSmart Charities® or PetSmart Charities™ of Canada to help feed a dog or cat in need."

PetSmart Charities will distribute the meal donations to various pet shelters, animal welfare organizations, food banks or other similar organizations that provide food, shelter and/or other assistance to pets in need.

PetSmart hopes to donate 60,000,000 meals or more! The goal is based on past sales for a similar time period. There is no guaranteed amount, as actual donations will be based on sales.

The allocation of food donations to beneficiary organizations will be based on PetSmart Charities’ evaluation of the needs among potential recipients, the ability of potential recipients to receive, handle and distribute the food donations, and where the donated meals can be most effectively delivered (“Review Process”).

It is anticipated that the allocation of food donations will be approximately 50% for dogs and 50% for cats. However, the exact allocation of meals between dogs and cats may be impacted by availability and PetSmart Charities’ Review Process.

It is anticipated that each qualifying purchase in the U.S. will generate a meal donation to PetSmart Charities, Inc. (U.S.), and each qualifying purchase in Canada will generate a meal donation to PetSmart Charities of Canada. It is anticipated that each charity will distribute the donated meals to organizations within its respective country. The exact allocation of meals donated, however, may be impacted by the Review Process

A "meal" is defined as 5 oz. of dog food for a dog or 1.5 oz. of cat food for a cat based on the daily maintenance energy requirements for a typical adult pet (40 lb dog or 10 lb cat) in good health that is fed twice daily. Ounces as used for this definition refers to ounces of weight, rather than ounces of volume.

No portion of your purchase is tax deductible. All donations are made solely by PetSmart. PetSmart Charities, Inc. and PetSmart Charities of Canada are separate nonprofit animal welfare organizations whose collective mission is to find lifelong, loving homes for all pets by supporting programs and thought leadership that bring people and pets together. PetSmart Charities is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and PetSmart Charities of Canada is an independent, registered charity, both of which are separate entities from PetSmart Inc.
