Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League

Black Great Dane
"Deuce"
(C) Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League
Deuce is a 5-year-old Black Great Dane who doesn't know that he is a senior dog as he still has lots of energy and loves affection!  If he doesn't get enough attention, he will make a low growly noise or place a paw in your lap!  WOOF!!! Much like what I do to my humans! BARK!  He enjoys socializing with other animals too!

Deuce normally has this very stoic look going on in his face but he's really a huge cuddle bug.

"Deuce"
(C) Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League
Deuce is learning to be more social with humans too and is making great strides. He recently made contact with two men for attention.  This is pawsome for him!  BARKS AND PAWS Buddy!!

A pawsome cool thing that Deuce loves to do is put his human to bed.   He will pick up one of his stuffed animals, and circle his human before going to the bedroom. His foster human followed and Deuce looked at her as if to say "Time for bed!"  She did, and he curled up next to her and that was that!  WOOOOF!!!!  How cool!!

Deuce's family are going to be pawsitively blessed by this guy.  He will definitely entertain you but most of all you will feel loved by a pawsome Great Dane!

He is good with other dogs and cats but prefers a home with no mini-humans!  BARKS!

Interested in meeting Deuce?  Please complete the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Adoption Application, call (703) 644-8009, a hotline where you can leave a message, or email coordinators@va-magdrl.org.

Happy Valentine's Day

(C) Allen Pearson, All Rights Reserved

Love is a many splendid thing- it isn't easy to place it in description, in a box, or even a few words.  For love is shown to me, everyday, by my humans, by my readers, and by my human's friends.

I am pawsitively one blessed puppy-dog!  I am loved by my humans and I love them. They take great care of me by providing a place to live, food, treats, clean water, exercise, a comfortable dog bed everywhere my humans works or rests so we can hang out together -as one family. I get to travel and explore places with my humans, even have my own travel crates and dog bed.  I am loved.

And I love them.  I exercise my human daily by taking him for really long walks.  I push him to go further by wanting to go out and hang out with him as long as we can- sometimes I divert to a different route so he doesn't get bored which ends up making our walk longer.  At the end, he might be tired but I am always happy to hear him say "oh wow! I walked 3 miles today!" WOOF!!!!

I keep my humans safe by maintaining security around the house and property.  I rid the yard of pesky annoying squirrels and other silly varmints. Sometimes the pesky salesman too!

Mom says I provide lovin's and smiles and happiness at times when they've needed it most.  That means much to me! Bark.

Even if we never did these things for each other- our love is what it is a bond of pure and simple love!  BARKS!!!!!

To my readers, I love writing, pawing, barking, woofing, and sharing facts and humor and stories which make our lives so much fun!  BARK!!

May you have a barkingly pawsome Valentines Day with your humans!

WOOF!! WOOF!!!!

Barks! Happy President's Day

Used by Permission, GraphicStock
BARKS!  In honor of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln whose birthdays we celebrate on this pawsome holiday, I have collected a few interesting facts about each which you probably don't know-

George Washington:
  • He is the only president in American history was was unanimously elected!
  • He kept and bred many hunting hounds!  WOOF!! WOOF!!! Known as the "Father of the American Foxhound." He had more than 30 of the dogs.
  • Washington didn't have to wear a wig.  He had real hair which was powdered.
  • He is the only president to have actually gone into battle while serving as President.
  • In 1976. he was posthumously rewarded the highest rank in the American military ever!  General of the Armies of the United States!
  • Washington's birthday is a bit confusing. He was born on February 11, 1731.  Barkingly, a switch to the Gregorian calendar from the Julian calendar caused his birthday to be moved eleven days,  WOOF!  Since the day fell before the old date for New Year’s Day, but after the new date for New Year’s Day, his birth year was changed to 1732. WOOF!!!
Abraham Lincoln:

  • Have you ever been to the White House and seen the Lincoln Bedroom or heard of it?  BARKS!! Lincoln never slept there!  Though one of the most famous rooms in the White House, it was an office during his Presidency.  During the Truman Administration, it was renovated and the Lincoln Bedroom which still features a few pieces of furniture from his day.
  • Earlier in the day before he was shot, Lincoln had created the U.S. Secret Service in 1865, but not for what you think! BARKS! It's original mission was to combat currency counterfeiting.  After the killing of two presidents, in 1901 the Secret Service was assigned to protect the president.
  • In Illinois, Lincoln was often seen with his dog Fido as he did errands to the local market or to get his hair cut. Fido was a floppy-eared, rough-coated, yellowish dog of uncertain ancestry. Despite his love and companionship, and his son's attempts to change his mind, Fido wasn't taken to the White House!  Lincoln was concerned the travel, noise and confusion would be too much for the great dog! Family friends cared for the dog instead. Pawsingly, it wasn't long before another dog, Jip, joined the family in the White House- along with a host of other animals!! BARKS!!! Lincoln was fond of cats too!
  • Lincoln was a fan of John Wilkes Booth who was quite the acclaimed actor in his day!  Nowadays, Booth is universally remembered as Lincoln’s assassin.
  • Lincoln is the only president to have obtained a patent. Lincoln loved tinkering with machines. After being on a steamboat which ran aground on low shoals causing it to unload its cargo, Lincoln designed a method for keeping vessels afloat when traversing shallow waters through the use of empty metal air chambers attached to their sides. For his design, Lincoln obtained Patent No. 6,469 in 1849.

  • BARKS! Why did Lincoln have a beard?  At the meows of an 11-year-old Grace Bedell, an 11-year from Westfield, New York, Lincoln began to grow his signature beard.  She wrote him a letter advising ti let the whiskers grow as it would serve him well.  She thought his face was too thin.  The two met during his campaign trail stop in Westfield!  Later the future president thanked the girl for her advice!

Happy Valentine's Day

Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

Black Labrador Retriever
"Raymond"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.
I wish all dogs had homes and humans to love.  After all, a home isn't a home without a dog or cat in it or both.  While I love writing about dogs, it's sad that they all don't have homes and their own humans to love.

My friend "Lab Lady" braved the snow squalls and blustery winds in sub-artic temperatures to bring by a friend for you to meet this week! Raymond!  He is a pawsome 4-year-old Black Labrador Retriever, almost a shiny black and nearly as good looking as me!  WOOF!!!!

Raymond comes from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise or groups of people so he's looking for a "Forever Home" in a single-family home with a rural or suburban setting.
Black Labrador Retriever
"Raymond"
(C) Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

WOOF!! Raymond can be a bit shy when he first meets humans.  Give him a few minutes, get down to his level and he'll crawl over to curl up in your lap to be petted. Pawsingly, he is an easy dog to be with and will make a pawsome companion for some humans!

Raymond is loving life indoors!  He may not have had the best living conditions before he came to Lab Rescue so having a comfortable bed to sleep on is a pawsome experience!  WOOF!!!! He is crate trained and most likely house trained too.

Raymond is looking for a "Forever Home" that will give him tons of love, take him for walks and give him a Peanut Butter loaded Kong one in awhile.

Raymond is good with other dogs, no known history with cats and is recommended for mini-humans 10 years old and older.

Watch Raymond play at: Raymond's Playtime!
