Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.

WOOF!!!!!  This is such a great photo of the dog, "Dakota" introduced to me by "Lab Lady" from Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc., that I wanted you to see it first!!

I hope you have had a great Christmas and a happy New Year.

What better way to start a new year than to consider adopting, or better yet, to adopt a dog to be your pawpanion!   My human LOVES having me around all the time to do stuff with and make sure he does stuff right!  BARK!!

Meet Dakota! A 7 year old chocolate neutered male lab who weighs 80 pounds. Now, he is used to country living, and has very limited exposure to city noises, traffic, and groups of people. Until Lab Rescue learns more about his needs, placements are limited to single family suburban or rural homes. If he can go to a city home, it will be updated on their website.

Dakota has very affectionately become known as bear to his foster family!!! WOOF!!!!  With a great thick coat, solid head, and large paws he is reminiscent of a grizzly!!  Barkingly pawsome, this buddy is all teddy bear!  Find the right spot on his neck and he will lean in for a good rub and gaze into your eyes with the most grateful look, sometimes with his tongue lolling out.

Dakota enjoys retrieving and exploring the yard. He likes to fetch and does well on a walk.  Pawingly, he would do well on an easy-walk harness and some training.

His foster sister isn't much of a playmate but they get along just fine! He gets along with the cat, who has given him a couple swats just to make sure Dakota remembers who's boss.

Dakota is looking for a new family that will give him the love and attention he deserves! He previously lived indoors for several years but has been an outdoor dog for the last several years and deserves a fresh start! He hasn't had any formal obedience training and will go with a training addendum.

He is good with children but has had little interaction with them, so he's approved for kids 10 and up.

Dakota is current on vaccines and ready for his "Forever Home!"

WOOF!!! or maybe MEOW!!! Glad to have a visit from "Cat Lady" at the beginning of another wonderful New Year!!  She has brought me a friend for you to introduce to you- please meet Nicholas!!

Nicholas was born at the end of August, this sweet boy was found on the side of a road.  He was taken to an animal hospital where X-rays showed he had a fractured pelvis.  Nicholas spent a month recovering and he is doing much better now. He should be on "crate rest" until February.

Friday's Friend: Dog Adoption, PetConnect Rescue

WOOF!!!! Happy Friday- Am hoping you had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!!  Mine was quieter than normal which is barkingly grand.  I don't like the fireworks some humans use to celebrate- very annoying- my humans and I had a fun day together- a pawsome way to start the new year.

My friend Miss Cathy from PetConnect Rescue stopped by this week to visit with one of her friends.  I am very grateful, so is my human, for PetConnect Rescue as they rescued me!!  The friend Miss Cathy brought by is Artemus!

"Artemus"
(C) PetConnect Rescue
Artemus is a stunningly handsome 2-3 year old, 54 pound black Chow/Shepherd mix!! BARK! And, is the definition of a gentleman!

He loves to go for walks, does well with other dogs, doesn't jump, and is quite content to sit quietly by you cuddling and getting petted!! He adores humans of all ages!

Though he settles down nicely to hang out with his people, Artemus can be playful.

Artemus has been waiting patiently in a shelter but now PetConnect has come to his rescue and has brought him to the Washington D.C. area to find his "Forever Home!"  He is so happy to finally have been rescued!!  ARF! I know the feeling!

Artemus would be a great companion to curl up at your feet to hang out on a cool winter evening.

Artemus is neutered, heartworm negative, up-to-date on vaccines and preventatives and eager to find a family to love!

If you would like to meet Artemus and learn more about dog adoption, please visit PetConnect Rescue!

Friday's Friend: Cat Adoption, Washington Humane Society

WOOF!!!!!! I hope you had a barkingly pawsome Christmas and New Years!  Mine was a little quieter this year than normal but it was still a pawcellent!!

The Washington Humane Society brought a cool cat by for me to introduce to you- meet Falcor!

"Falcor"
(C) Washington Humane Society
Falcor, a four-year-old, seven lbs., domestic shorthair cat, is as an pawcellent character!!  When you rub his very soft belly, you will begin an exciting journey full of cuddles and cat towers.

When Falcor isn't head-butting you to solicit some chin scratches, he can be found stretched out in sun beams, napping the day away.

Falcor is great with kids and loves being the center of attention. He isn't too needy though, but he does love to kneaded.

Falcor would prefer to be the one and only king of the castle and ruler of the kitty tower. Think you are ready to rub his belly?

If you would like to meet Falcor and cat adoption, please visit the Washington Humane Society's New York Avenue Adoption Center, 1201 New York Avenue, NE, Washington, D.C., 202-576-6664 or visit Washington Humane Society.

Grandma and Grandpa

Pawsingly embarrassed that I haven't written much lately. It's was a long and crazy 2014!!!  WOOF!!

First in March, my grandfather had a nasty accident. He fell and hit his head on a concrete surface curb. He had no idea how he fell and neither does my human. Dad and I went out to the hospital after the accident to be with him. He had a severe head injury, so he had to be moved to the Head Trauma Unit at another hospital. They barked about the hospital being for humans, but I showed them my sweet smile, then snuck in to visit with grandpa!  AND, grandpa would get better much faster if he was surrounded by dogs!  WOOF!!!

After a week or so in the trauma unit, he  was taken to a rehabilitation center to get stronger and steadier on his feet. Howling odd, he was being admitted at the same time my Grandmother was being released to come to my house. My mom human kissed grandpa on the head when she saw him being admitted and sent the entire center staff in a tizzy.  Everyone wanted to know why mom was kissing grandpa!  I wanted to go lick him but it didn't work out.

At home, Hospice was delivering items for my grandmother who had been ill with cancer for awhile came to stay with us. I didn't quite know what to think because she arrived with her own bed, toilet and these rolling things that I didn't like at all. I don't know what they are called but I learned later that she uses one to walk and one to ride around in. I didn't like the walker thing so I barked at it quite a bit and growled too- which surprised mom because I don't bark much at all.

Not too long after that, my gramps, Mom's Dad, got ill and was admitted to the hospital. Later mom said she had to run around in circles like a crazy woman. Never have I seen a human run in circles- that was fun to watch. Now, the score is one parent in rehabilitation center, one at home and one in a hospital across town.

My Mom's Dad has gotten better and he has gone back to his place.  Mom checks on him weekly.  He has friends who see him daily or check on him.

So you can see why I haven't written much, besides "Friday's Friend" columns each week!  I have been barkingly busy!  WOOF!!!!!!

Friday's Friend- Returns January 9, 2015

I hope you had a wonderful New Year's day and excellent time with your dogs, cats and human friends!  WOOF!!!!

Arf??  You don't have a dog or cat?  Uh, you are missing out on one of the best parts of being human- adopting a dog or cat and having them be part of the family!  WOOF!

Every Friday, I paw a column titled, "Friday's Friend" where I feature dogs and cats from local rescues who are looking for their "Forever Home!"   I paw about their skills and talents and provide a link where you can learn more and pawsibly adopt one or learn about other pets the rescue may have for adoption.

I have been pawfully busy this Christmas - New Year's season helping my human celebrate and with some huge projects.  I didn't think I'd have much time to write.

Friday's Friend will return on Friday, January 9, 2015.  I paw to have dogs and cats from Lab Rescue, Operation Paws for Homes, PetConnect Rescue and Washington Humane Society.

If you work for a rescue and would like to participate in Friday's Friend, please see our page about it!
