Cat Care Tips

I'm thinking about Cats again this morning- not sure what is wrong with me -something I ate maybe?  Oh YEAH!!  My great aunt was here recently and she was chatting about how great her cats are- on and on and on and on....... so I must have them on my mind.  They sound like great cats- I hope to introduce you to them one day soon.

Anyway, I want to share another cat care tip with you today from Kurtt Schmitt of Cat Lovers Only

"The litter box is one of the most important things in your cat's life. Litter box problems can be hard to solve, so it's best to do things right in the first place.
Here are some guidelines...

Do:
  • Place the litter box on a hard, flat surface.
  • Have one more litter box than the number of cats in the house.
  • Place a litter box on every floor of a multi-level house.
  • Make sure the box is not in a noisy or busy area like the kitchen, but not in a remote area either. It has to be just right.
  • Make it easy for elderly cats or cats with mobility problems to get in and out of the box. If needed, steps or ramps can be set up.
  • Have a large enough box for large cats.
  • Use unscented, scoopable litter.
Don't:
  • Don't exile your cat to a cold, wet basement to do her 'business.'
  • Don't use box liners. Many cats seem to hate the feel of the slippery plastic.
  • Never change litters quickly. Instead, pour a small amount of the new cat litter in the box and mix it with the old. Add more each day, replacing litter that gets used with the new variety.
  • Don't ever "rub her nose in it" if she has an accident. Always praise your cat for positive behaviors, and simply clean up messes if they occur. If your cat has repeated problems with the litter box, she may be ill, or the litter box or litter itself may not be to her liking."
