Christmas in the City by Ellie Lord

It was the week after Christmas when all through the land, many humans were headed back to work after a few pawsome days off while others were still enjoying some time away from the office! Many had a pawsome Christmas from celebrations large and parties small.

The puppies and kitties and dogs and cats in the rescues had a pawsome Christmas and maybe even some special pawty snacks and toys too. They opened their presents, they looked at their donations large and small, they are so grateful for the items received! For they, will need, and continue to need supplies to help them make it to being the bestest-pet-they-could-ever-be!

In this season of giving and love, the dogs and cats at local rescues continue to need your help. They are in constant need of supplies and those supplies being replenished. Barks, maybe you really love dogs and cats but are unable to adopt, pawlease consider sponsoring a dog or a cat in a rescue or donating to help with expenses rescues have.

WOOF! BARKS! Samson and I write and photograph to support dog and cat adoption from several local rescues. We are sharing the links to the rescues who can use your donations to purchase much-needed items for the dogs and cats in their care! Barks, pawlease note, donations must be made by December 31, 2019 (tomorrow night) to count for this year's tax deductions.

Year-End Giving

WOOF!!  Are you looking to make a year-end donation?  A great place to donate and support in your community are animal rescues.

Cash donations really help the rescues with expenses as they rescue animals in need which, barkingly pawsome, help humans too.   Without me, my human would be absolutely crazy and even a bit strange, hee hee- woof! I am a living example of how great money donations benefit rescues.

Monthly cash donations are great too.  As that helps the rescue to plan for future expenses with their rescues.  One of my human volunteer friends noted that even a donation of $10 helps a dog or cat!

Other than that though- if you've ever wondered what the money is used for, barkingly, here's a list of just a few items which donations help support-
  • Needed medications - $25
  • Vaccinations to prevent life threatening illnesses - $50
  • An initial veterinary exam and vaccinations- $100
  • Spay or neuter - $250
  • Treatment for deadly heartworm - $350
  • Complete dental care for a neglected senior - $500
  • Collars and leashes - $15 - $25
  • Crates (Varies)
  • the list goes on-
If you are not able to give financially, another way is to donate items on their wish lists which are often listed on the rescues websites.  These items would include:
  • Towels
  • Rags
  • Blankets
  • Pillows / Dog Pillows
  • Dog Food
  • Dog Treats
Pawsome, another item you can donate, which is in need, is your time.  You could foster, train, transport or help with many office skills.

While there are many rescues to support, here is an alphabetical list of the ones we support with photography and writing at "From the Dog's Paw!"

Animal Welfare League of Arlington - To Donate!

Lab Rescue of L.R.C.P., Inc.- To Donate!

Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League - To Donate

Operation Paws for Homes - To Donate

PetConnect Rescue - To Donate

Washington Humane Society - To Donate

Animal rescues have played a huge part in bringing together humans and animals and creating many happy "forevers!"   Imagine how pawfectly pawsome it would be to know you are helping others.

Remember donations must be received by the organization by December 31, 2015 or, if mailing, postmarked by December 31, 2015.

Year-End Giving Benefit Dogs and Cats

Used by permission, GraphicStock

WOOF! Are you looking for a way to make that year end donation? Barkingly pawsome!

My human and I support several pawtacular dog and cat rescues, shelters and charities throughout the year by photography and writing.  My human photographs while I do most of the writing- it's better coming from a dog- a rescued dog who rescued his humans and live very happily ever after!  WOOF!!!!

Did you know that running a rescue, shelter or charity is an expensive undertaking while the investment is often farther reaching than saving the dog or
cat. In many cases, the humans lives who adopt the dogs or cats are touched in many unexplainable ways. Not to mention how happy the dog or cat are to have their own humans and home.

One way is companionship and love.  My humans were beginning a long journey of caring for their parents. Little did they know, or me either, that I would become an important part of the family during times of loss, grieving, exercising and family fun.

Many humans will say that adopting a dog or cat through a rescue is expensive- it's really not if you consider what's involved- behind the scenes before you ever see the guy you want to adopt.  There are travel expenses to a safe place, there are food and water expenses, there are grooming expenses, there are housing expenses, there are veterinarian expenses -though we are very thankful for reduced rates and sometimes even free treatments.

The rescues we work with have all volunteer staff.  No one gets paid for the work they do.  My human donates his time to photograph, I donate mine to blog.  We work together to help the dogs and cats get adopted.

One group we photograph for, as needed, does an extremely pawsome job helping our military service men and women find dogs that assist them in life- not service dogs or therapy dogs- though many of us are therapy for our humans- but the love of the dogs help the servicemen and women adjust to life, keep them company, you name it.  It's a wonderful organization, Pets for Patriots.

Woofly, not everyone can adopt.  There are many reasons that some humans can't adopt right now.  If that's you, there are many other ways to support.  You can donate financially, any amount will help and you can do it in honor or memory of a pet or a human.  You can volunteer your time and you can donate much needed resources such as blankets, towels, and rags.  Or, check out the "needed items" lists on a rescues/charities website and go from there.

And, you can donate your time.  As a volunteer who does this on a regular basis, you can help many dogs and cats while on their way to their "Forever Homes."  Contact one of the rescues I have included about volunteering- I'm sure they will be happy to have you.  Or, visit this link which will direct you to a place to volunteer.

I am a rescued dog.  I am thankful a lady from PetConnect Rescue saw me and brought me to Maryland via small plane with Pilots N Paws.  I am thankful for the foster who took me in her home, kept me, fed me, allowed me to stay until my human found me.

My humans and I are thankful for the donations of many who made this possible.  Barkingly, I am not the only dog or cat who can share this story.

Here is a list of rescues and charities we support and would like to suggest for year-end donations!  BARK!  Or, even all year donations!!! WOOF!!!  I've listed them in alphabetical order- no special barks or meows.

Bark! Donations need to be made by December 31, 2014, to be included in the current year's (2014) tax deductions.  Postmarked by December 31, 2014 if you are mailing a donation. WOOF!

Thank you for supporting dogs and cats and your fellow humans.  RUFF!!!!!!

Tax Deductible Year-End Giving 2014 - Giving and Giving some more-

WOOF!! What a barktastic year it’s been- ! I’ve written my thoughts and shared them- I’ve had guest bloggers visit and share and I’ve introduced you to many dogs and cats friends needing “Forever Homes” through my “Friday’s Friend” column and my articles
(C) Allen Pearson,
All Rights Reserved
on Pets Magazine and Dog Culture. My human added to the fun by photographing for several rescue organizations too- he donates his work to them to help the animals find a “Forever Home.”

And, I've made many friends this year through social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.

This time of year always gets me to thinking about giving. I’ll give gifts to my humans (not the kind you might be thinking) and they give me cool stuff too- and, I’m sure you and your family do the same in many different way. How about taking it further. What about sharing financially?

Throughout the last several years, my human and I have been blessed to see many volunteers working very hard to find homes for dogs and cats all over our area and even into New York. I am amazed at the talents humans dedicating so much time and work to help the animal with some of them working nearly 24/7! And, being a dog that a kind heart rescued and got me to these wonderful crazy loving humans that I call mom and dad, I am extremely thankful.

Along with volunteer assistance, these groups can use your financial support too or a donation of goods from the list on their website. A monthly gift is great. An end of the year gift is great. Whatever you can do is barkingly great.

While there are many rescues and shelters you could support with year-end giving, I would like to suggest the following as they are ones we have worked with through photography and blogging:

These groups are not listed in any order, just alpha or close to it.  We are suggesting these groups for donations as we've worked with them and it's been a pleasure.  We are not affiliated or employed by any group and do not benefit from your donation in any way, shape or form.

Help the Animals with Tax Deductible Giving

Here it is..... end of another year.  Just celebrated my 4th Christmas with my humans and we'll celebrate New Years in a few days.  Been a great 4 years- never thought I would end up so happy- since I was in a high kill shelter before being rescued........

Do you love animals? Have a passion for dogs or cats? But, maybe you can’t have one right now, for whatever reason? Well, there are a few things you can do to possibly satisfy that want for a pet.

Or, maybe you are looking for a place to donate some extra cash you have on hand and want to make a difference in an organization?!

First you can donate financially to an animal rescue, like PetConnect Rescue! When you donate money or items to PetConnect Rescue, you are supporting an
www.petconnectrescue.org
all-volunteer organization which works to rescue animals and give them a second chance. Every donation helps, even small amounts, to defray expenses related to food, veterinarian bills while the animal waits for its “Forever Home.” Or, maybe you have some toys, blankets, sheets or pillows, those are useful items too. They have a list on their website of material needs too.

Several years ago, people gave. They gave money, needed items and time to bring me and a few other dogs to Northern Virginia in hopes of finding “Forever Homes.” This help, in the many forms, brought my human and I together. We’ve been best buds for 3 years now and counting. The help these people gave affected me and the lives of two humans, my Mom and Dad who care for me.
Huge gifts are great but so are small ones, any amount will help. And, you know, PetConnect Rescue is a 501(c)3, monetary donations are tax deductible! If you have more funds you would like to disperse before year's end, please consider PetConnect Rescue.

And, if you are not able to donate financially or any items for the animals care, you can always volunteer at your local rescue or shelter. Volunteers are needed to walk the dogs, care for the cats, feed the animals and general care.

Here is a link to donate to PetConnect Rescue now, PetConnect Rescue.  Gifts need to be postmarked by Dec. 31, 2012.  Or, donated online by that date!!

Happy New Year and THANK YOU for your support- you never know what dog or cat and human your donation will touch!!!!

Year-End Tax Deductible Gifts

I almost forgot to tell you about a great idea I heard about the other day. Giving money to charities for year-end tax deductible gifts!

Yeah, you can actually give money to a group you like, as long as they are a tax-deductible charitable organization (too many big words for a dog this morning!), and deduct it from your taxes. Of course, you know there are IRS laws that go into this and I am not a financial advisor so you may want to check into that!

There are plenty of local and national pet organizations that are in need of funds to keep them operating. These organizations use money to care for the animals and prepare them for their FOREVER HOME. The groups who rescued me, went to great lengths to take care of my medical issues and training and fostering and .... well, you name it... they did it. I love them for it and I know Mom and Dad do too since they are so happy to have me.

If you'd like to support them, the website is www.petconnectrescue.org and www.pilotsnpaws.org. Who knows, you might make some humans extremely happy with your donation of support which allows them to help that perfect animal.

JUST REMEMBER: If you mail donations, they MUST be date stamped by Sat. Dec. 31, 2011. If online, you'll need a receipt dated by Sat., Dec. 31, 2011 too.
