Friday's Friend! Dog Adoption, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League

"Apollo"
(C) Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League

My pawsome friend the "Great Dane Dame" of the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League stopped by this week with a barkingly grand, and large-I'd say, guy for you to meet- Apollo!

Apollo is an affectionate, playful, and very smart Great Dane who shares his emotions through hilarious facial expressions. He knows his basic commands like "sit," "down," and "stay" but if he doesn't agree with them, or other commands, he will mumble back at you- which is often quite hilarious! His foster parent wonders if he really does know English! BARK! WOOF! He is very well trained but does need reminding as he can be stubborn!

Apollo is house-broken and will let you know when he wants to go out. BARKS! He is good about not eating things he shouldn't and is not destructive. He is crate-trained but is fine to stay in a confined area when his humans are working.

Barkingly, Apollo has a blanket obsession! He only takes the one he knows is his! He'll go everywhere with his blanket in tow.

Apollo walks fantastic on a leash and even stops traffic with his handsome stride. He is still learning some leash manners as he likes to pull and bark when he sees other dogs! Given Apollo still needs some work on manners, he will have a training requirement as part of his adoption.

Apollo requires special attention during feeding and needs specific easy digestion dog food. His bowl needs to be elevated to head height, his foster parent uses a tall bar stool, to feed him. He has a slow feeder which he gives him 1 cup at a time (3 cups total) with 4 breaks while eating that 1 cup. Feeding time takes around 20 minutes twice a day which is a commitment with pawsitively must be kept to keep him healthy. It is an easy thing to do for such a pawsome fella! He is food motivated and will do just about anything for peanut butter and milk bones!

Apollo is recommended for mini-humans, but not for cats or small dogs!
